Beta Forks as messengers to synchronize two Alpha Forks
Greetings and Salutations, First Post here so be gentle. Could you use two Beta Forks to synchronize Two Alpha Forks, to prevent Identity Drift? Basically Morph 1 (Exalt to avoid traumatizing the kids) is raising the kids, while Morph 2 (The Flexbot) does the farming to earn the rep needed for a good life for them. Could Morph 1 and 2 effectively merge, by sending out Beta Forks or even Inactive Backups, say every hour, to prevent their viewpoints from drifting too far apart? If yes, could you egocast the synchronization vector across the system for the same effect?

Actually, Alpha Forks could get the job done better. Essentially each of them would send their own code to the other intermittently, making sure that they stay largely in synch with each other. If in wireless range, they could possibly even do so with specified intervals. Do note that the exalt will need a cyberbrain installed in order to remove the need for an ego bridge during the process.

or a Mnemonic Augmentation. Which I realized that I left out of my initial post.

No. All that Mnemonic Augmentation will allow for is that both forks will be able to keep in touch about what the other is doing in XP form. If they want to make sure that they continue to essentially be the same person, then merging is a necessity. It's also best that merging occurs in intervals that are less than an hour in length, to ensure the best merges. The only way for quick merges to occur (ones that take less than 15 minutes) is for both bodies to have a cyberbrain.

Um unless there's something I don't know, it's on page 275 For synthmorphs, merging takes one full Action Turn. For biomorphs, an ego bridge (p. 328) or mnemonic augmentation (p. 307) is required to merge, and the process takes 10 minutes.

Interesting. I wonder why they decided that Mnemonic Augmentation would be enough for merging purposes. Either way, it still does not solve the time problem; biomorphs still require 10 minutes to finish merging unless they have a cyberbrain.
