The Windup Girl
I got this book for Christmas, and it seems like it would be of interest to folks here. The premise is that of bio-engineered crop plagues spreading out of control and causing the creation of a calorie-based economy. Humanity has done a lot of fiddling around with genetics, but little to upgrade themselves, so they are very vulnerable to the bio-plagues. It's a good read, and presents some interesting ideas, even if most of them wouldn't be out of place in the Jovian Republic.

It's on a bookshelf. I'll get around to it eventually but neat to hear that it has relevant topics.

Yeah. The titular character
Yeah. The titular character is effectively a vat-grown Exalt/Sylph living in a Flat world, but with a lot of restrictions worked into the genetics. The premise is kind of how I see a best-case version of a biological-based Fall going.

It is really good.
It is really good. Thought the titular Wind-Up dolls were more like Pods? But yeah, otherwise, a book full of some cool ideas for Eclipse Phase.
Exhuman, and Humanitarian.

I loved this book
Hock Seng is the best. Bacigalupi does a great job of presenting interesting characters. Although I like the worldbuilding, I've known some people to think he overuses the terminology that he develops for his world. All I know is that Jaidee is life.
