Question on Bright's Immigration Controls
Bright, the independent station in the Saturnine rings with a populations of super geniuses and an odd government setup, has attracted my attention. It's an interesting place, and it makes a change from the "big nasty monolithic hypercorp has created an x-risk" to have the occasional "some nutter has been pulling stunts the hypercorps would have shut down as unsafe and created an x-risk!" turn up. Variety, it's important. In any case, they only let the smart types in. To quote the rules section of Rimward: IMMIGRATING TO BRIGHT In rule terms, individuals must have a current COG score of 30 to be eligible for citizenship on Bright (p. 71) or even to stay there for more than two standard days. All visitors are tested upon arrival, but the test only requires a brief brain scan lasting several minutes. Individuals displaying scores of 40 or higher will usually be offered various incentives like priority access to goods and facilities to make Bright their home for at least a few months. Two questions, then: Is the minimum "braininess" level before or after a morph's augmentation is taken into account? If, as would seem the most likely given the requirements, it's after the modifications from morph, how does this work for those who farcast in? If I've got a Hyperbright (COG +15) waiting on ice for my non-genius but moderately smart character (COG 15), do I get in? If I then have reason to slieve into a Novacrab to do an in-person check on hull stresses, but my Hyperbright is damaged or stolen in the mean time, do I get evicted? Secondly, am I misremembering, or is there a hard cap of 40 for all Aptitudes amongst Transhumans, before gear but after both morphs and augmentations?

Don't quote me on this, but I
Don't quote me on this, but I believe that augmentations can go over that cap. It could just be a writer mixup though. Also, using the language "current COG score" indicates to me that it includes morphs and augs.
In other words, firing off a laser with a sufficient TWR for the recoil to be noticeable would require a post-miracle-tech laser weighing less than a disposable plastic spoon and powerful enough to shoot down Death Stars? -- ShadowDragon8685

If you've got a morph waiting on ice, I'd assume they sleeve you into it and let you overcome integration penalties before they test you. If you don't, though, then they probably test you in whatever infomorph form you arrived in. If you can muster an unaugmented COG score of 20, you can get by if you invested in a Sage Eidolon.

That depends on what kind of heartless bastards you think they are. It's pretty much the height of ingratitude to evict someone if their morph gets damaged/destroyed/stolen, especially if it gets damaged/destroyed/stolen either in the process of performing habitat services.

As I understand it, 40 is the hard cap for aptitudes - no combination of inherent aptitude, augmentations, drugs, traits, morph qualities - nothing - can get above 40. Anything above that can only be skill.
