Morph Recognition Guide/card
Is it still possible to preorder a copy of the Morph recognition guide/cards? If not, will they be available for retail as a hard copy item (not just a pdf)? Thanks.

The Morph Recognition Guide
The Morph Recognition Guide and Cards are a book and set of cards, respectively, that compile all the morphs published in Eclipse Phase books into one title. The guide has a compilation of morph-related rules, as well.

Will the Scurrier have the right number of limbs this time? What? It's a very important question! As the once Morph-guy of the forums, this is by far the product I was most looking forward to seeing in the kickstarter. If for no other reason than to see an illustration of that large-genitalia'd raccoon thing from Transhuman.

I think Rocky (The Thunderfuck Squirrel!) has entered the forum zeitgeist as being representative of Scurriers. :) It actually wasn't that big, Urthdigger decided on: five inches or so. Which is, admittedly, kind of freaking huge on a frame the size of a raccoon, but there's a sheathe. It gets better, too. We actually hashed out what it looked like and how it worked. Boredom and curiosity, mainly. Also, he decided to offhandedly seduce the kind of NPC who would broadwave the XP to the whole solar system.

Great product, really. The size comparison is a great idea. I thought Flats were taller, as tall as the average human morphs :-) The image of the scurrier is the same of the manual and it has 4 limbs (plus a tail)

Great product with great artwork! Some of the "shadowtalk" is funny as hell - a user with the handle "Voight-Kampff" who talks about the limited lifespan of pre-Fall pods, also the comments about the scurrier's high-pitched voice... One question: Where can I give feedback about typos, missing page numbers and similar stuff? I've found some mistakes and I'd like to help!

Shiny and new
Really enjoying the book thus far. Most of the artwork is lush, and the description paragraphs, though short, give a great idea of who would use them, where in the system and for what purposes. I'd say the main worry as a GM is making sure not to sleeve every NPC in a cool, unique morph... most of these are supposed to be rare! My only quibble, having skimmed through it, is the use of "moffie"as slang for a pleasure pod in its chat commentary. Its South African slang for a homosexual, but is almost exclusively used here in a negative fashion, much like "faggot" would be in the US. I'm sure PS+ or the contributors didn't mean anything by it, but I wonder if its connotations were appreciated by a non-South African while adding it to the book.

Slang probably wouldn't remain unchanged over so long, but for a pleasure pod slang might not be positive, either. In EP there's a bias against pods, and pleasure pods could get it the worst.

Samsa Intimidation
So, I have a question. The Samsa gets a +20 bonus to intimidation checks, but also -20 to social skills. Is this meant to cancel out so your intimidation stays the same, or is it supposed to apply a +20 bonus with intimidation being unaffected by the -20? By which I mean, if you have 45 intimidation, and the Samsa gives you +20 intimidation so you have 65, should it be like that, despite the -20 to social skills nullifying the +20 intimidation (so it would stay 45) or is it supposed to nullify it?

The intent is that it's supposed to be +20 to Intimidation, unaffected by the Unattractive trait (which, if anything, would help the intimidation in this case.)

Thanks for clarifying that. It's a bit confusing is all, if it can be helped it seems like that and other apparent contradictions from conflicting advantages/disadvantages like that could be clarified when they appear.

I'll grant you that in-universe such slang might be used, but there is still the question of whether it is appropriate for a out-of-context quote within an official sourcebook. It is entirely comparable with a comment in the book calling a male sylph a "faggot morph", or a reference to something as a nigger. That is the way the word is used in local language in South Africa. I'm not going to make this into a crusade, but I just thought I'd try to explain it clearly. The slur struck me as being really out of place, especially with the otherwise overwhelmingly inclusive directions taken by Posthuman Studios.

I'm the one who put that line in. When I was coming up with slang terms, I intentionally went looking for a non-English term roughly along the lines of "fag" in English, with the idea that over time, terms are often recuperated and turned around and used in other ways, much like "queer" was reappropriated by the gay rights movement into a positive thing. There's power in taking terms that are offensive and repurposing them, stripping them of that offensive context. With pleasure pods in particular, I figured that some of those old homophobic terms would have have been taken and given new context more appropriate to EP's culture(s). After all, the setting of EP with its body-swapping of any sex and pleasure pods with their fluid sexual characteristics really help to address how ridiculous homophobic notions like that are and will be in the future. I understand that it might raise an eyebrow with someone reading it who's aware of its current usage. Not being South African, I of course don't know the full cultural impact of that term, and using slang from outside your normal cultural context is always potentially dangerous territory. We're obviously opposed to homophobia, though, and I expect our readers can grok the intent and see that we're not using it in that derogatory context. Thanks for bring it up, though -- I appreciate that our customers catch stuff like this and bring their concerns to our attention. I hope you realize where we were coming from and take the whole line about pleasure pod slang as an exploration of how such things might really be in the future, and not with any sort of offensive intent -- and also as an opportunity to discuss these kinds of things.

Bibliophile did something like that at one point, I'll ask him if he doesn't mind me spreading the link around. EDIT: Here's a link. He says it's not complete or comprehensive, and it's unlikely that anything from new publications will be added. I might start going through and updating it in the fall, though. Morph creation rules or not, I don't think that should matter at all. Traits like alien biochemistry and large size does have an impact on the game. If you are going to list all the positive and negative traits, all gear, and all morphs in the game, but not neutral traits, you're going to have an incomplete list of things.
