PS: where's your best profit?
So, supposing I was gonna buy me some EP books... Supposing I was agnostic as to whether I was killing trees vs contributing to the coming e-waste crisis... Supposing that -- if the e-copies were available for free -- I might be buying these copies in large part so as to support PS... So, hypothetically speaking: Where does PS see their biggest profits, on a $-per-book basis: PDF's or hardcopies? Thanks! - Steve, the g33k

Hmm...complicating matters is that if you buy the books from a local retailer you support that business, who may then order [em] more[/em] copies to replenish stock and extra to cover future demand. Of course,I like books so I may be biased....

It partly depends on the vendor, where you assign a project's costs (i.e., do the production costs get assigned to the PDFs or just the print copies?), and if you're just looking at the income or the % we get based on the cover price. As a rule, if you ignore production costs and just look at the income amount, we see a bigger profit on paper books on a per-sale basis. (If you were looking at % of cover price, however, we get a greater % on PDF sales). We also see a slightly bigger profit on paper books sold through the retail hobby trade (your FLGS) than we do the wholesale book trade (Amazon, Barnes & Noble, etc). By far, the best % we get is on the print books we sell through Indie Press Revolution. We literally get twice as much per book from them as we do through regular distribution. So if you really want to throw a bigger % our way, order through IPR. EDIT: Actually, the best way is to buy from us is directly at Gen Con, since that all goes to us. Unfortunately that's the only con we attend.

If you find a convention in Ottawa I volunteer to help staff the booth. I'm good at talking people into buying things that really sell themselves.

Argh! Another reason to fulfill the pillar of nerd-lam(?) and complete a pilgrimage to Mec- I mean Gen Con. I have had an absolutely miserable time trying to buy Eclipse Phase in paper book form from B&N, and next to the same for Amazon, so I regularly wander about the few FLGS to acquire their physical loveliness as often as I can. GenCon 2015 it is I suppose.
