Hey everyone,
I have been reading Eclipse Phase for a long time and I'm looking to maybe get into a game to check it all out. I'm basically brand new: even though I've read through the setting a couple of times, I've never had the chance to play.
I'm looking for an online game to play, though my schedule is not always consistent. If anyone has anything they are looking for an additional player to toss into, please let me know!

I would like to try to run an
I would like to try to run an Eclipse Phase campaign again. I plan the campaign to start Play by Post, and then after we find our feet and establish a solid group also run Live sessions on skype using voice. I hope that the combination of Play by Post and Live will mix thoughtful story telling with fast paced action.
You can be any time zone to join the Play by Post part of the game, while Live sessions will be run mostly on weekday evenings GMT.
GENERAL POINTS:
1. All characters should be from the Inner System.
2. Uplifts are allowed, but AGIs are not.
I won't allow AGIs because I plan to ramp up the paranoia and mistrust surrounding AGIs. Across the Inner System, if any AGI passes a certain level of sophistication it is terminated by the authorities.
3. For the rest I will follow the EP fluff in its entirety, or almost so.
What I require from players:
1. Willingness to be part of the story telling. Help me shape the plot of the campaign.
I will start with a pre written module, but I hope players will lead me off track soon enough.
2. Solid knowledge of the EP setting. Having read the Core Book and Sunward is required. Panopticon recommended.
3. A well thought out backstory.
If you are interested in joining respond to this email and I will add you to the general conversation.
Cheers,
Mefis

Play By Post
I have not read through the entirety of Sunward yet as I only recently got all of the books, but I'd certainly be interested.
For characters, aside from the above restrictions, is there anything else you are looking for in particular? Members of a certain faction? Are we part of Firewall? Do you want us to fall on one side of the law or the other?

No other aspects of the
No other aspects of the character are left to you.
We will decide together with the rest of the group if we want to do a Firewall campaign or not. Either works for me.
Can you PM me your email so I can add you to the email conversation with the other participants.
Cheers,
Mefis

So far I received interest
So far I received interest from three players. Three players is probably enough to start. I have a few questions:
1. What medium do you suggest we use to do the Play by Post? Some options might be:
- Google docs shared document. So if we happen to be online at the same time we can even edit in real time. But how doe we handle rolls when we are not all online (most of the time)?
- Google hangouts (never tried these, anyone has experience?)
- Obsidian Portal - I tired to use it once and found it very clunky. Anyone has better alternative?
- Other. Suggestions?
2. Nature of the campaign:
Do you want to be Firewall sentinels? Or maybe all part of another faction? Firewall sentinels would be the easiest as there is a lot of pre-written materials I can draw from. But we should decide together something we can all dig, so long as it is based in the Inner System.
3. Some general points on Fluff:
- I plan to have the Outer System feature as well, but it will be cool for your characters to explore the farther reaches of the system not being too sure how things actually work out there. Mystery and all. And I will play up the PC censoring all the information channels they can intercept between inner and outer system. So apart form a few black market channels (Argonauts for example), information about the OS available to most IS citizens is unreliable and probably heavily fabricated.
- I'd like to make Luna even more similar to Super-Switzerland in space. So Lunar banks will be very powerful and have the most influential entities form ALL over the Inner and Outer System as clients. Privacy will be key here for obvious reasons. Clients will need to be able to visit Luna discreetly and anonymously. So most banks will offer Faracster Receiver terminals and Morphs for rent. The obsession with privacy spills onto the rest of Lunar society as well. Luna is one of the few polities that is not a Panopticon thanks to a system called the Oubliette. This I am lifting from Hannu Rajaniemi's "Quantum Thief". Read more here:

Let me know your thoughts especially regarding the Fluffy parts.

Mefis

In a PbP game the players
In a PbP game the players usually roll and post the results. After all, PbP is not a real-time game.
Email or Google Docs. I love the idea about editing.
I say go Firewall if you're not sure you can keep the players going in at least one similar direction (believe me, this is a hassle;) EP encourages complex and vastly different egos, so unless we mesh our motivations, backgrounds, and factions together, a non-FW group will be crazy hard to run.

I'd be totally fine with doing a Firewall game, as I've never actually had an opportunity to play before anyway so I really don't have enough experience to have a preference!
I'm also fine with email if we want to do PbP that way.

I have a character concept that might be a good fit if you're still recruiting, but the timing might be a dealbreaker. Have an actual range you mean by "evenings" like, 6-10 PM, 10 PM-2 AM, etc.?

I sure am still recruiting.
I sure am still recruiting.
GMT "evenings" might range anywhere between 16:00 to 23:00. Any three or four hours within this time-frame will do for me, and we can decide on general consensus.
Alternative, you may wish to join the Play by Post part of the campaign only. You will be cut out from part of the action, but I figure we can still make it work.
I think we'll try using Google Docs. I'll set something up. Does anyone know of any system that would allow PCs and GM to roll online and store their rolls there? I'm not calling anyone a cheater, but the temptation to fudge a roll that might save your ego from Psychosurgical interrogation might be strong.
Do you guys want to start posting character archetypes (the hacker the infiltrator and whatever else)?
A note on the hacker. If you plan to play a hacker please take a little time reading about cryptography and cyber security. I'm not an expert myself, but even a shallow understanding will go a long way.

Time Zones...
Gah. Which GMT are you? I googled and there's a +0 and +1...I'm CST (currently it's 11.21am for me) in the mid southern US.
Eh, right off the top of my head I know I'll want to play a saboteur or somkin. New concept for me. Unless you think we might roll into a bit of Gatecrashing, in which case I'll probably write up a character that has some affiliation/skills to go along with that.
This is all assuming you haven't decided to make us FW, in which case my two ideas still sorta fit.

I'm not especially inclined
I'm not especially inclined towards playing a hacker, but likewise, my concept will shift around depend on wether or not we are already firewall agents. Probably either a faceman type or some variety of "thug".

The later end of that at least should work out well enough, so sure, consider my hat officially tossed into the ring, most likely with this here character who's a bit infiltration oriented. I'll PM a sheet over.

Unfortunately, now that I look at it, the entire time frame you are discussing running the voice chat portion I the game, I'm at work. So I may end up passing on the game.

I'll play whenever I'm not
I'll play whenever I'm not running my own games in the real world. Also, I'm pushing for the play-by-post since that allows me to contribute to the group and story despite this time zone issue.
