80's Sci Fi Manga and Anime
Just saw a movie about the Venus colonization and wars on it's surface. It doesn't fit very well with EP's Venus, but could get great on any other location. The movie title is Venus Wars. Thus, there's lots of great sci fi on Japanese 80's animation (the easyest example: Akira, from Katsuhiro Otomo, could give great ideas for an Exurgent infection). Not much more to tell, just wanted to be of some help. Any movie you'd like to recommend?

My old favourite manga was
My old favourite manga was Sanctuary by Sho Fumimura (illustrated by Ryoichi Ikegami). This is how I like to run the nastier side of Consortium/hyperelite politics. Thanks to psychosurgery any aspiring gerontocrat can get these levels of willpower and ruthlessness. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sanctuary_(manga)

I'd recommend Appleseed,
I'd recommend Appleseed, (1985-1989), which you can read in English. If you only know the story from the recent movies, I'll think you'll find the manga tells a more sophisticated story. The following parallels to Eclipse Phase stand out. The post-holocaust Earth getting reclaimed by technologically sophisticated survivors resembles Reclaimers. The protagonists entering a functional society after living in a ruined city resembles resleeving infugees. The bioroids of Appleseed resemble the standard sleeves of Eclipse Phase, and the theme of having to modify humanity for survival's sake appears in both settings. In Appleseed, it's a big secret at first, in Eclipse Phase, it's just one more tragic aspect.

Then there is Adam Warren's
Then there is Adam Warren's Dirty Pair. I do not know the Japanese original, but there are plentiful details to borrow to EP even if the overall setting doesn't have an EP feel (despite the Earth being destroyed in a nanoclysm). Two series worth looking at are "Sim Hell" (which deals with simspaces and mental hacking, as well as the nanoclysm) and "Run From the Future" (this one in a much more EP setting - this is how I envision the wilder parts of the Autonomist Alliance). Ah, poor commander Pribluda. And maybe even more his wearer.

Dark Horse published English
Dark Horse published English translations of the original novels. I've read these, and they more resemble a slightly slapstick game of Traveller than Eclipse Phase. The various Dirty Pair anime all have similar themes, and I don't think they'd offer much to Eclipse Phase. Adam Warren's Dirty Pair change quite a bit from their Japanese forebears. They do make good inspiration for Eclipse Phase, and so does the Teen Titan Elseworlds done by Mr. Warren. In fact, Kay and Julie appeared in the first session of Martian Autumn as Medusa Shield bodyguards for a visiting financier from Extropia. They all died, and yes, their last words were "It's not our fault!"

Dirty Pair is the only one I
Dirty Pair is the only one I haven't read yet (but I've read Empowered, and I rather like Adam Warren's style). Just remembered an anime film, Space Warrior Baldios. Besides the mechas, and the flying tank (I don't need aerodynamics! If I'm on the future, and I say my tank can fly, It can fly!), there's some deep message about Weapons of Mass Destruction, Greed, Ambition, Revenge... (As deep as a 80's anime about mechas can be). It begins on a planet called Baldios (Empties on Spanish. Don't know if it's intentioned), where the contamination levels are deadly. The Emperor hasn't decided anything yet, but there's 2 main sides (not sure if this is the right word). The military wants to abandon Baldios and conquer another planet. The scientist want to decontaminate Baldios.
Wellcome... Wellcome to this world of madness and wonder. You've been dead. For ten long years, you've been dead. Now... That's it! Small steps...

BGC!
Come on folks no love for Chicks in Hardsuits? bubblegum crisis is perhaps the prototype of pre fall earth. You have the hypercorp, Genom, doing test run with androids in the middle of the cities, turning them berserk to gather extra data, for shits and giggles. you have the renegades, in power suits, fighting to opose the corporation in a batmanesque fashion that would be right up the alley of proto firewall trying to stop... you know, I dread to think what would have happened if LARGO got infected with an exurgent virus...

While not 80's, Kaiba is
While not 80's, Kaiba is absolutely related to EP.

I would strongly recommend
I would strongly recommend "Battle Angel" if you can find it. Cyborgs, an interesting variation of a space elevator, nanotechnology, even EP -style cyberbrains!
