head hunters are scary because they steal not just your head but probably your mind. protect your mind with the [b]LOWER ABDOMINAL CORTICAL STACK[\b] standard hardware in the cranium collects updated mind states with an extended fiber optic cable transmitting the mind state to a specialized stack buffer capable of correcting for the additional signal lag in real time [~5 minute buffer may be lost in case of damage to cable] the ego backup is stored on a standard cortical stack readable by most ego bridges. and micro explosives planted in the brain ensure in the advent of your death by decapitation there will be nothing left in your cranium of value to the evil titans a number of optional extras are available including stack encryption, cyber brain variants and lager cranial explosives capable of destroying any headhunter fool enough to take your head, and even other near by titan robots. the lower abdominal cortical stack may be retrieved by unskilled personnel using a knife with greater ease than a traditional cortical stack because it is not held within the scull, simply remember to tell your friends where you keep it. other products include [b]PINKY FINGER CORTICAL STACK[\b] the most quickly retrievable, when your death may eventuate during retreat from hostile territory your team mates will not thank you for having to take 5 minutes to recover your cortical stack or lug your fat head around. maximize chance of retrieval by making it easy. modifications to the finger make it easy to remove the PINKY FINGER CORTICAL STACK with a simple twist, minimal loss of finger function pleas note, i have given these ideas minimal thought in a game rules context.

In the hip bone could also be an option (if you want it out of the head but still hard to retrieve). The pinky is VERY exposed, both to getting snatched and accidental loss. I like the idea, but I'd go with a testicular stack (and a place for something of equal functionality could be made in female morphs).

Except...

Would having the stack in a non-optimal location mean that it does not update as fast? Only applies to biomorphs of course, synths can put their brains wherever they want. I usually rule that synthmorphs have their cyberbrains in their torsos.

my advertising styled initial writeup included "a specialized stack buffer capable of correcting for the additional signal lag in real time [~5 minute buffer may be lost in case of damage to cable]" so yeah i was thinking there would be an update delay. but in advertising speak they still call it "real time". could actually be an advantage, you don't remember you death (or the 5 min preceding it). the real concern with it is that it is wired up to a bomb in your brain. if anything happens to the teeny tiny fiber optic cable between the cortical scanner (where the cortical stack usually is) and the testicular stack or pinky stack (such as breaking your finger or being kicked in the junk) ITS GOING TO BLOW UP YOUR BRAIN, and passably the surrounding area on the off chance that your head is being stolen by a robot.

If the lag is caused by the information being written to a buffer, and that stream of information never lets up (until you die, of course), the buffer would slowly get more and more filled up, until it overflowed, and then you're in a whole heap of trouble. I'd say instead that cable that normally run from the brain to the cortical stack is of very high quality and exotic material, giving it the required bandwidth. Spending enough to get the same material to extend all the way to, say, your testicles, would be inordinately expensive, so the average model simply substitutes a fibre optic with approximately 1/100th the capacity, and sets the backup to be more infrequent to match, meaning it takes almost 2 minutes fully transmit each "frame" of backup to stack. Attempting to resurrect from a partially over-written frame (50% you 15 seconds before death, 50% you 115 seconds before) can cause cognitive problems; for Continuity Tests roll 1D10 for a non-violent death, and 2D10 (1D10 + 5?) for a violent one.

i had imagined the cable as

i had imagined the cable as having ample bandwidth but not being 100% immune to noise. the buffer exists to check the mind states are uncorrupted before recording them to the stack. also to ensure that in the case of decapitation the stack dose not contain a half written mind state (which would be very bad)

If you can load an entire ego into a cyberbrain in one Turn. You can egocast from one end of the solar system to the other. A meter of cable isn't going to be a problem.
