Character generator for Eclipse Phase
Hello, We have put online a character generator for Eclipse Phase. For the moment you can : - Create a character. - Export the character to a pdf character sheet. - Save and load your character for changes or evolution. The project is actually in Beta testing and we need your help for testing and reporting bugs and rules errors. All suggestions are of course welcome. Had a quick look, on the whole very good. I found a couple of things I think are bugs, and some requests. When choosing a morphs optional aptitude bonus it will allow you to choose an aptitude the morph already has granted a bonus on. The bonuses are stacking. I believe the rules say you cannot put the +5 to any aptitude on an aptitude that has a granted bonus. The system appears to be charging credits for my starting morph. Rules indicate you must by morphs with CP at character creation. I would also like to see the ability to write in equipment. It is not unusual in my groups for somebody to want an item for RP purposes that is not listed in the books but is perfectly reasonable (for example a musical instrument) some boxes to type item names in and a dropdown box to select price would be fine. It would also be nice to be able to by blueprints for objects.

Yep,it is fixed too. We have added a checkbox on the load popup to determine if the character is in "evolution" mode or "creation" mode. The morph's prices are in credits if the settings is in evolution mode.

thanks That’s as good a way as any to implement the blueprints. The reason there is no list of blueprints is that you can get blueprints for any item in the book, cost is one level higher than the item itself. You probably don’t want to re list every item again in a blueprints section.

Thank you very much for this generator it really, really helps with lazy players. Profession skills should be in the knowledge skills group. I think. When i spend 400 points on active skills and 300 points on knowledge skills, i try to chose morph, but it`s saying "keep 700 creation points for skills". It apears as it doesn`t add active skills with knowledge skills.

Yes, we are working on the next release and a lot of bugs were corrected, this one included. The next release will be online soon, i keep you posted.

Few bugs
Arts missing in knowledge skills. Spray weapons , Seeker weapons gear list missing(weapons are there so it`s not so important). Re instantiated background on printout (pdf) layout doesn`t show edited memories trait. I think that in generator, gear list should be separated from morph , so when you change morph, gear doesn`t end up erased(maybe i`m not using it correctly). And maybe if its not too much trouble, skills that can`t be defaulted should be somehow marked on printout, but this also is minor inconvenience. Medecine = medicine, it isn`t knowledge skill. Tried Lost background, can`t select psi sleights, it says "you must take the trait(psi I or psi II)", by default you get Psi I with that background. Keep up the good work.

I wasn't able to reproduce this error, have you look at the EGO page, on the EGO traits ? Witch browser are you using ?

Thats a problematic one. For now the gear are linked to the morph. That was made so for the following reason : if you ego cast to an another morph on an another place you can not take your gear with you. This change is a little to big for the version one but maybe we will add a "Location" concept (where all your gear, morph and hardware are) on the next.

For my players, EP is actually their first tabletop RPG experience, so it`s a bit daunting for them (this is a big understatement). Most of the time they end up with basically same gear. I guess their favourite guns and armor gives them some perception of stability. :)

So far this is looking pretty good. I think adding all the Traits/Morphs/Gear ect. from the other other books (or at least Transhuman) would be great. But we'll cross that bridge when we get there at least for the moment the idea is sound. Though and its simple and it WORKS! (YEAH!)

Hi everybody, We just put online the Beta 0.6 with a lot of correction and some change. We hope there is not to much "new" bugs due to the changes. Thanks again for your help. :) Simplex Change log : * Difference between eve mode and creation mode implemented * Profession skills is now in the knowledge skills group. * The restrictions errors about CP points when buying a morph is corrected. * Art is now in knowledge skills group. * New category for Weapon : Sparay, Seeker and "grenades and missiles" * Background trait and factions trait are now merging correctly. * None defaultable skill are now correctly calculated. * None defaultable skill are now visible on gui. * Skill with a value of 0 do not more appear on the pdf * Medicine is now in the active skills group. * Psy sleight restriction corrected * Bug on the Criminal faction bonus corrected. * Pdf export now correctly prompt specials characters. * Pdf export now download immediately the pdf file. * speed is now limited to 4. * some bonus and limitation corrected * buying credit with cp is now limited to 100 cp * a lot of little other bugs...

Attempting to use this, but
It drives me nuts that I cannot customize the title of the Knowledge skills like I can with Exotic Weapons. Right now it defaults to the Knowledge skills that specialized AI come with, so everyone is an accountant and psychiatrist with no more than two Interests and one Profession.

Hi, thank you for the feedback. They was some bugs on the skills, they are now corrected. Accounting is back on the knowledge skill. About the knowledge skill you can add your own and if the "default skills" (like accounting) do not have points in it (value 0) they will not appear on the pdf character sheet.

Before choosing background, first enter few knowledge skills, and then you will have more options on your background page(tab) if your background allows it. It also works for custom(user defined) networks.

loading problems
Simplex, thanks for the update, great work. Ok few bugs : 1. on Moxie page it says 25 creation points cost for "buying" moxie. I think it`s just typo because it calculates correctly(15cp). 2. I`m having some problems loading some character files recently made with updated app(Chrome). It`s just loading and in background i get this error "There was an error. parsererror SyntaxError: Unexpected token <". I have two saved files so far. Ok i`ve tried in Firefox with another generated character from start, and it all works just fine, pdf layout is looking nice, but when i save and try to load i get this( now in Firefox) There was an error. parsererror SyntaxError: JSON.parse: unexpected character 3. I`m not sure but when i change aptitudes i`m loosing my CP`s as well as AP`s. Is it possible to have a dialog to name those files before saving them? It would help alot.

Well, the save was broken, but it is working now. Unfortunately the save from the beta 0.5 will not work with the new version. If the problem persist can you send us the faulty save file by mail ? (game@oook.ch)

Then i choose background,faction, motivation and then i modify aptitude points. And there is the problem. It has to correct for skills that are going over 60 points, and when i increase aptitudes, skills are also being increased. So it`s actually working as it should, it`s my mistake. Sorry. Saved files are working correctly. Edit: It works nice on Android tablet with Chrome browser. This is now great tool for playing EP, so thank you very much.

After the beta phase the script code will be downloadable. You will be able to make it work offline but for that you will need to have a little bit of technical knowledge. (Installing a mysql php web server on your computer) The download will have a little how to. For the book we will add : - Rimward - Panopticon - Sunward - Gatecrashing Have you a link on the Transuman supplement ?

I have to try it out with some other browsers to see if it works better, but it`s workable as it is. I can save files and generate pdf`s. Loading doesn`t work in Chrome. Yeah, this is really cool. Is there any plan to allow the sheet to be updated based on the effects of play. Spend res points, acquire gear in game, earn rep and cred threw adventures.

After you saved your character, you can reload (button load) it in evolution mode (default) and spend rez points, credit and reputation. Is that what you have in mind ?

If you need raw data from the other books, I put together a few .csv files listing things like gear, morphs, traits, etc. for others to use for just this kind of project. It's got shortened descriptions and extra metadata like book and page numbers. Should be relatively easy to parse that into a useful JSON format, too: http://itsmax.net/pub/EclipsePhase/data/ It doesn't have Transhuman in there though. And might not have Rimward? I'd be happy to help put that together if you are going to find it useful. As a wish-list item, I would love to have gear descriptions, maybe in a separate Gear/Implants page similar to what's in the jmobius sheet. My players tend to forget what things like "Mental Speed" or various drugs do and waste a lot of time looking them up in the book during session.

The "summary" field in the .csv files contains a shortened description similar to your memo notes.

I can not evaluate what part of your files will be use, so if the data from Rimward and Transhuman are a lot of work don't do it just for us :) however if you plan to do it anyway it will help for our validation process.

Bugs
Having selected the "Lost" background, your free Psi (Level 1) trait counts towards your 50 CP limit for positive traits. Also, you can't deselect it and pick Psi (Level 2) instead. Not sure if the correct rule interpretation is that you need to pay for Level 1 before you can get Level 2, but other backgrounds only need to buy Level 2. Several bioware augmentatitions listed on page 306 as having cyberware counterparts are not selectable for synthmorphs. You can get 50 Max Aptitude on a remade morph using the Exceptional Aptitude traits on both ego and morph. However, as Rob Boyle explains, remades gain nothing from the Exceptional Aptitude trait as 40 is the hard aptitude maximum.

More bugs
Biomorphs should not have access to Lidar and Radar, those are listed as robotic enhancements. Background traits and default morph traits seem to count towards the maximum amount of points allowed in those traits. Thus, an Infolife in a Case morph is unable to pick any negative traits since they already have Lemon, Clanking masses, Real world naivete and Social stigma.

Great. Oh, and Infomorphs can get synthmorph augmentations. But I'm sure you are aware. They will get their own augmentations when you add Transhuman, anyway.

Yes we have done the separation of infomorphs from the synthmorph group but we have to re-check witch implants they can buy.

Hi everybody, Thanks again for your help and feedback. We have just put online the Beta 0.91 with a lot of corrections and changes. We hope there is not too much "new" bugs due to the changes. What’s new : -> Book and page references on the description zone. -> Book and page reference on the pdf character sheet. -> Sunward has been added. -> You can now take more than one gear. (on the description zone) -> Added visual “logo” on the gui for the book reference. -> Fixed a lot of bugs, and maybe added some news one :) Unfortunately the old save file will not be compatible with this version, sorry for the inconvenience. This looks awesome
I tried this tool from firefox and am very, very happy with it. I am gearing for a first time session of EP in my gaming group and I can tell we will abuse the hell out of this thing! The one thing I noticed was that when choosing helmets it is not adding the defense value to the armor, and sometimes the +- signs appear as a ? in a cube, this is probably because I am using it from firefox or is it something other users have reported?

Thanks for the feedback, Yes that was reported, that's on the wish list but for the moment that's a little bit complex for us to add a layer addition system for armour, maybe later on the v2 :) Normally the helmet must appear separately on the armour list, if that not the case that a bug. If so can you tell us the name of the helmet ? and we will correct this. For the special character (? on the box) that must be a bug. What is the name of the gear (armour) that do the glitch ?

The helmet was the full helm, I think its a 3/3? it appeared as see memo in the armor list, iirc. as for the special character, I'll check at home and will post ASAP.

Hey, great generator, I only have a minor complaint/suggestion: When selecting the PSI I or II trait, you normally also get mental deficiencies as per the trait. It would be perfect if you implemented an option to choose the deficiencies you "want" when taking the PSI trait, because otherwise they won't show up on the generated sheet. Thanks for all the work!

Hi, Thanks for the feedback ! We had forgot the Psi drawback rules. That fixed. We have find and corrected a bug, the memo for ego pos. traits and ego neg. traits wasn't shown. That fixed too. For the deficiencies list that a little to much work for now, so we just added a Memo saying that you have to choose a deficiency.... But that a good suggestion and we add it on the "nice to have" for the v2. The changes and fixes will be upload on the next release, by the end of the week.
