I'm like 99% sure that I saw a harness featuring Spindles around your body, giving a new way of maneuvering, sort of Doctor Octopus meets Spiderman. Anyone happen to know which book it's in, I looked over the books and wiki with no luck.
Also, was wondering about some movement systems.
Iron-man style of flight which could make melee combat a little more cinematic, would that be Ionic or Vector Thrust?
Could spindles(harness) be combined with a small gas jet/vector thrust system to work as 3D gear, not unlike Spiderman.

Actually it was Amazing
Actually it was Amazing Spiderman movie combined with DC Universe. Swinglines have been used ages and decades before Attack on Titan, and Venom's bad pun "Can we surf the web?" makes it all the more funny.
My character is using a shape-adjusting synth for Hopper mobility system combined with grip pads and Pneumatic Limbs. What he needs is system to function as an addition (use the momentum from the jump to jump(hah!)start the swings) and a safety measure that keep him from crashing or landing in bad stuff (the harness had 4-6 spindles with each their AI to keep all angles usable).
But seeing how popular the anime is (no one cared about the manga really) I can sorta see how'd you think that was the point. Still, Batman & Spidey had it before the Corps.

I know the item you are
I know the item you are thinking of, I am fairly sure it is in Sunward. Give me a minute, away from my books. To the internet!

I've found a possible match.
I've found a possible match. Its Smart Anchors from (Rimward, p. 193). It will auto-deploy 6 spindles if you wind up falling from some place high up (in an effort to save your life).

I'm well aware other characters have swung before, but you specifically mentioned '3D gear', which is a term used extensively in the anime and described using a gas-thrust system, another element stressed in the anime. Most superhero web/grapple swingers do not mention a harness or gas propulsion system. Clearly the harness and propulsion system would be vital to make the system viable for non-superhuman use, but this still makes Attack on Titan a closer fit.
Regardless it is an interesting concept though you will have to measure the advantages and disadvantages of this movement system when compared to flight.

A flight system is probably
A flight system is probably better than some sort of 3D maneuvering gear. You have the option to move/fly far away from objects and buildings, where as a grapple system is highly dependent on clinging to or standing other things. A flight system might be faster too (but I'm guessing on the details at the moment).
However, I have an idea. A grapple mobility system could be a way to save reaction mass in outer space. Reaction mass is a non-renewable resource, so you want to avoid using it as much as possible. A grapple mobility system would save you the hassle of "flying" into space (or free falling if you prefer) make swinging around large objects in space (like habitats or space ships) an option. Just make sure to plan for mistakes though, otherwise a single misstep will cause you to free fall away in a random direction.

I like the cool factor too, but if the is a better option, no one will use the 3d gear. Fuel efficiency, turning speed, and stability might be good reason to opt to swing, but it should be reflected in the mechanics.

Awesome, thanks for the help.
Awesome, thanks for the help. Was going crazy over not finding one specific item.
there are few reasons for the Anchors over flight. The biggest is size, a harness can be hidden under smart clothing most of time, and allows multiple movements, such as hanging. Also with modular rules, a morph can only have two movement systems active at once, meaning I couldn't have walker, hopper and flight.

Well you could
Have a walker/hopper then get the flight pack on your armor, works in micro g mars n most low g habs...
