New player, looking for Hacking tips & tricks.
I've run a game of Glory once before with positive feedback, but only recently got chance to immerse myself in the EP setting (which I utterly love). I'm a sucker for altering things, so being able to change a characters body, equipment, and hell, even Ego with the right tools and skills, is quite fun. I'm getting into the book, but find that second opinions and experiences are always a nice source of tips and tricks I wouldn't think of myself, so I was curious if there were people willing to share. While this is mainly for Hacking, which is my char's current niche, any other particular helpful tricks are always welcome. Thinking of Ghost in the Shell, combined with hacking and the Basic Biomods(which include a small computer) and Cyberbrains, I was curious if it was possible to mess with people's perception, say by hacking them and using the AR Illusions software. 2nd idea was, with multitasking, can I launch three separate hacking attempts when hacking Synthmorp A, failing one on purpose so the Watchdog focuses on it while my two other attempts get some leeway(as long as they stay covert/hidden). Can I place Ecto's around locations, setting them on hidden setting so they are harder to track, and use them to hack from that location (the term is Proxy I believe, not very savvy at the whole IT jargon) while I'm safely elsewhere? Once I get my softwares and spend time upgrading them to +10 ~ +30, can I share them with my team, like say a Firewall +30. Beam Weapons come with smartlink and safety. Smartlink should have wireless connection, can I bruteforce hack it to lock the owner out, or if combined with shocking, zzap him? Where do I find stats for an awesome, metal dog I can name Forte!

Ok, first things first - I'm also a noob. So take what I say with a grain of salt.

Yes, explicitly so. However, they are free to just turn off their AR if they sense something is wrong. Which in turn might make them unable to see a "danger, construction overhead" sign. 2nd question - I think the entire network changes state, when an alert is triggered. And they can try to trace or lock your first fork. Better to use a decoy if you plan something like that. Or decoys - like an entire botnet. What you can do, however, is have your forks aid your main attempt along with your Muse. Or try to launch multiple simultaneous attacks on the bet that you might potentially overwhelm the defenders. Ectos - yes, but they can still try to trace you. Your address will be in the ecto's history if you don't cover your tracks carefully. Yes, if you develop software yourself, you can give it to whoever you want. Maybe even sell it or publish it open-source, hoping for some Rep. All guns come with Smartlink and Safety. The link is probably closed when not needed, and hacking is usually too slow to try during combat. Also, it's probably going to alert the owner, same as any other device. However, if it could work, it could be an interesting source of distraction - get 2-3 extra AI and have the brute-force-attack enemy smart-links or tacnets. The intention is not so much to take them down, but to panic the enemy when you attack with more AIs than they have to defend with.

Good think I always have a bag of salt with me! Ectos - Having a script to remove traces of me is a given. Which reminds me, can I share a script with someone or do I have to hack their devices first, like say, giving a pal an .exe file to clean his mesh id off the Ecto. With Intuitive Cracker trait, I'm down to 8 turns for brute force hacking, and with Mental Speed or Multitasking I believe it can be pushed down to 4 or so, though that's mostly to mess with the enemies, when they detect me and their safety is crushed, they will have the choice of turning off their wi-fi, restarting a device (hoping I don't backdoor it), both results are good, they either lose their mesh and tacnet for a bit, or I get inside. The Smartlink & Safety was specifically mentioned under beam weapons, I haven't seen it on the other, might have missed it. One of the simplest ways to get inside someone would be passing them a software or ecto which uses my programming/infosec skill to install a backdoor once it's used? Software - Feels like first thing I should do is get into a time dilated vpn and spend a few weeks upgrading Firewall, Exploit and Ecryption to +30. Updating - Is it too heartless to leave a fork in an isolated vpn that actives every now and then so he can keep the softwares up to +30 (they degrade after usually three months)

Mass forking and plenty of infomorphs to jam/tele-operate cheap shells and coordinate hacks can be lovely. Crazy hackers can be everywhere at once and bust the action economy wide open.

Security conscious users will
Security conscious users will be routing high risk traffic through one or more ectos with a haptic interface (so no possibility of an AR hack) and will use a skinlink or equivalent for their gun (requiring physical contact) that will otherwise be entirely off the mesh. Also gun safeties are *not* going to be wirelessly networked except by the hopelessly naiive overriding all the common sense defaults. I break into computers as part of my job and the +10 to +30 bonuses for quality software tools doesn't make sense to me. Perhaps a +10 to +30 that can *only* be used to offset penalties for speeding up hacking attempts. Another thing that doesnt make sense to me is speed of hacking should be based on the interface skill *not* infosec but isn't for whatever reason in EP.

Why bother? Ectos are dang cheap. Our team hacker (my dude) just throws a compromised one into the nearest recycler. Can't pull data off it once its molecules have been broken apart and rebuilt into a t-shirt.

Not always an option,
Not always an option, sometimes you can't just dump it. Might be lack of firepower to atomize it, or maybe you're watched and can't just be seen tossing it. This way I can remove myself from it and give it away or then proceed to trash it. There's always small chance that they can fix it with a repair spray.
