Asyncs in unarmed combat
One question recently came up in our campaign about asyncs in unarmed combat. Let's say you have a combat trained async, and he wants to use his training in martial arts to deliver a touch based async attack, like Psychic Stab. How would we handle it? Some options: 1. Roll against the lowest of the asyncs skill in either Unarmed Combat and Psi Assault. So, if the async has 50 in Unarmed Combat and a Psi Assault of 40, his attack would be rolled against 40. If the attack hits, he would inflict damage from both Unarmed Combat and the Psychic Stab, and of course roll Strain. 2. Roll Unarmed Combat first, then Psi Assault if it the attack hits. However, both the Unarmed Attack and the Psychic Stab are Complex Actions. Anyone else had this question pop up in their campaigns? Cheers, Eirik

You get the Mental Speed
You get the Mental Speed augmentation and ignore the problem altogether? I'm sorry I can't help you more, it hasn't come up in game for me as the one time I did become an async the campaign ended shortly after that and in the campaign I'm in now asyncs are basically evil exurgents so I tend to kill them.

I think that there was a
I think that there was a thread made in the last few months asking the same question(s). You might want to go look for it. If I recall correctly, the conclusion was that using psi powers and unarmed attacks were both separate actions. Any attack you make is one or the other. Edit: I found the thread. http://eclipsephase.com/psychic-stab-confusion

Yep
And that's the way I run it, one or the other not both.

How about using the sleight
How about using the sleight Multitasking and Mental Speed? The rules say that sleights are mental actions, and Psychic Stab requires a "melee attack" (I read this as an Unarmed Attack). The async could activate Psychic Stab as a Mental Action and use Unarmed Combat to deliver it. Of course, he wouldn't get the +20 bonus for just delivering a touch. E.

Makes sense, my first
Makes sense, my first inclination would be to allow it but there could be a balance issue.

That's how one of my players
That's how one of my players used to do. Combine Mental Speed boosters with Psychic Stab and you can get away with some public assassinations: PC: "Oh hi! Pleased to meet you!" *psychic stab* NPC: "Ow! I seemed to have suddenly developed a migraine." PC: "Oh dear, do you require medical assistance?" *psychicstabpsychicstabpsychicstabpsychicstab* NPC: x.x
