Next Hardback?
I wasn't sure which forum this'd go in, but this seems like the best fit. I know we have some smaller, more focused pdf content on the horizon (the Argonauts book for example, which I am really looking forward to), but is there any idea yet on what the next hardback is going to be after Transhuman? I'd love to see the spaceships caught in the middle of a Posthuman Studios brainstorm, and which ships' ideacrews are riding the storm hard and which crews are heading for the nearest airlock (personally, the good ships Horrifying TITAN Threats and Sweet New Gear are ones I as a GM would love to see ridin' the storm).
Yours, Dave the Brave

From what I understand,
From what I understand, Firewall is next. Though I haven't actually spoken to any of the developers about it, I believe that it is intended to both flesh out Firewall as an organization, and provide additional information for potential x-threats that any character might encounter. However there was talk about having Firewall and a separate Threats book, so they might not be the same thing anymore. And this is going off information from last years Gencon, so who knows what they have cooked up since then.

Very useful...
Having a Firewall sourcebook with lots of character templates would help flesh out all the different kinds of personalities one might find in certain phases of the organization, especially across sectarian lines. Also, it would help depict how they get along - and when factionalization occurs. Infighting!

can we have a MESH book instead?
Firewall is nice and all, but not every GM focus their campaigns or stand alone adventures around these. For me the way I use Firewall is a lot like Bioware use Cerberus in Mass Effect, but kept secret with sentinels and proxies willing to murder and psychosurgically alter witnesses' very ego to preserve the secret of their existence No, what I would truly find useful is a book about the Mesh, VR, AR, TacNets, RepNets etc It's always the toughest part of the setting to explain to new players, especially if they didn't play Shadowrun (4th, Anniversary or 5th) before

A book about aliens instead?
A book about various xeno-sapients would be nice; the EP universe need a closer look on the denizens of the galaxy, especially intelligent ones. The writers have fleshed out a wonderfull setting and I'd like to see what new types of EP sapient xenos they can create (whitout forgetting the Factors).

Eclipse Effect?
Would that change the setting of the game, making it more like a Mass Effect or Halo? Though it could be done in the way shown in the Machine God book series by Jack McDevitt: destroyed and ruins with possible finds on some exo-planets...and maybe even on Earth! You could make the Omega Cloud a manifestation of the Exsurgents on huge scales

Eclipse Effect? Absolutely not!
Sorry if I wasn't enough clear, I'd like to see more aliens with a non human mindset or/and society. Mass Effect and Halo according to me are too human centric: regarding the anthropomorpization of the aliens.

didnt we talk about this before on another thread?
1) gear! gear! gear! 2) ship/vehicle write ups and combat rules, including chase/persuit. 3) mass combat rules. (yes, I want military sci-fi options) 4) cheat and flow sheets to help with hacking, infiltration, crafting, and other skill groups/task actions 5) moar NPC write ups, moar mooks, moar titans, exhumans, and exsurgents, moar about ultimates. firewall fluff, aliens, not important to me. If you do do a firewall sup, I'd like more about anti-firewall clandestine groups like Ozma/stellar intellegence, etc.

I'd love to eventually see an
I'd love to eventually see an "endgame scenarios" book. It would offer a variety of different ideas about what the "truth" is behind the setting (where did the Titans actually go? who really controls Project Ozma? what actually happened on Iaepetus? what do the Factors want? etc.). None would be "canon" necessarily, and many could potentially contradict each other. It would also cover some possible scenarios where something critical occurs that changes the entire makeup of the game (the Autonomist Alliance collapses! Earth awakens as a fully armed and operational Matrioshka brain! revolution on Mars! the Jovians flip out and start a full scale war! etc.).

Fiction with Meta Plot
I think I am in the minority who likes there to be metaplot in their books. I loved how the world would slowly evolve and move forward in time as new sourcebook that came out in the cWoD books. What I hated most about the nWoD is the lack of metaplot. To many games now go without to give us more "control" of the world, but the lack of cannon metaplot I think detracts from a game world. I think its done best in Shadowrun where the have the shadowrun missions which allow for the players to have some input in the future of Shadowrun. Each new addition jumped forward the time taking into account events that went on in their sourcebooks.

We'll be releasing a fair pile of PDF and POD adventures over the next year. It's unlikely that we'll be releasing a hardcover full of them, though.

Yes, we're working on
Yes, we're working on Firewall. The two adventures from the Kickstarter are in layout/art-gathering phase, and I'm scoping out which of our unpublished con adventures comes next. And I accidentally wrote too much for one of the Kickstarter adventures, so that is going to be another mini-supplement. People who are asking for more monsters/NPCs will like it. We'll have official announcements on all of this stuff coming soon.

Every Eclipse Phase book develops the world, no? :-) The next hardcover after Firewall is the yet-untitled "Threats" book, dealing with X-Risks and all sorts of other transhumanity-damaging encounters.

I believe that TPTB have stated that there will be a moratorium on new morphs (a morphatorium???). Nevertheless, will the upcoming books still include new advantages, implants and gadgets? Also, will the Firewall book only contain Firewall info, or material on other groups that combat x-risks like Ozma and the security and intelligence services from polities like the Jovian Republic and Titanian Commonwealth? Thanks.

The "morphatorium" is a bit tongue-in-cheek. As always, Eclipse Phase books will contain whatever rules material they need to properly represent the world. Also, will the Firewall book only contain Firewall info, or material on other groups that combat x-risks like Ozma and the security and intelligence services from polities like the Jovian Republic and Titanian Commonwealth?
Firewall will have material about Ozma and some other organizations, yes!
Thanks. I'm glad its not a strict morphatorium. :) One can never have too many morphs, or at least new implants and toys to customize your morph. Also, after having perused Million Year Echo, particularly the Piccolo and Snorri Guthmansson entries, I was hopeful we might see more of the cloak and dagger world of EP outside of Firewall and Ozma in upcoming releases.

I second every commenter who
I second every commenter who said 'Gear Gear Gear'. I'd also accept more exoplanets and unusual cosmic phenomenon as well. While I will - for the sake of my collection, buy a copy of a Firewall book I do so under protest. I really hate the Firewall organization. I've never run them as anything but the antagonists, the scary "If you make too much noise or discover something too cool, don't be surprised if a bunch of maniacs show up and ruin your day, and the day of anyone near to you". Heck I even have slightly more time for Ozuma (at least they actively believe in profit and growth), Firewall represents controlled growth at their pace which runs contra to a lot of transhuman beliefs. Also I practically love Oversight as the poor schmucks just trying to investigate the invisible shenanigans and getting caught in the crossfire. Much like I run the Medeans as the anti-firewall.

I've always had the opposite
I've always had the opposite view of Firewall, honestly. They're the only group who can consistently unite transhumans from disparate groups together to the common good, though that isn't the common "nice". Even OZMA, Oversight, the Medeans and the Titanian intelligence agencies are extensions of their own polities. Firewall is the only guys who can go anywhere and effectively do anything to prevent transhumanity from accidentally into 90% of us again. The harsh truth of the Fall is that blind pursuit of knowledge is dangerous, and you need to know what you're poking before you go poking it. But if you're careful, you can make something good. Firewall works with the Prometheans, after all, which is about as close as making a deal with the devil as you can get in EP without talking to an actual TITAN (which OZMA may or may not have) for most people, but in principle, the Prometheans are "friendly" Seed AI, a process which apparently runs counter to transhuman ideals. If what you're doing poses a significant, immediate X-risk (as presented by most of the Firewall involved pregen scenarios), Firewall will take some polite steps to figure out what exactly is going on and when they don't have time for that, or it fails, they send in Sentinels to figure out what's going on and probably blow some things up (The fact that Sentinels are Player Characters of course, often leads to chaos). If what you're doing doesn't pose significant, immediate X-risk (as calculated by the massive futurecasting minds of the Prometheans, who seem to like Transhumanity okay, for slightly alien God Machines) Firewall will leave somebody around to make sure you don't do something stupid in the pursuit of science or profit, and if what you're doing is beneficial to the effort, they might recruit you, though for you on an individual level, that might not be fun. So, Firewall isn't nice. They aren't the "Big Good". But they have the dirty job they have taken it upon themselves when no other group in Transhumanity seems to get it together to do, and most of them have volunteered to do it of their own free will. And since that goal of not doing or building something inadvisable enough to be able finally wipe us out is to the benefit of everyone, their methodology can be tempered with pragmatic need. When the possible fate of the last 10% of all transhumanity is on the line, purity of ideology can go fuck itself. That's my interpretation of the situation, anyway.

Almost every reason you stated to like Firewall, makes them even more frightening and an x-risk to transhumanity by their very existence. They are potentially far more than just "not good." They are a small, dangerous group that is answerable to no one, making decisions for millions, and have no compunction about killing many thousands, including their own people. The fact that they consort with seed AI's speaks for itself. At least intelligence agencies from the polities have some checks and balances as they fight against the same x-risks as Firewall. Heck, I'd sooner trust a Jovian intelligence agent than someone from Firewall. At least if the Jovian is loyal to the Republic, in addition to fighting x-risks beyond Jupiter, as a bioconservative and possibly religious, he lives a life at home designed to prevent the emergence of such risks, values each life (not just ego) as unique, including his own, and would only commit mass murder in the most heinous of circumstances, and is constantly monitored by his superiors. He's more likely to actually walk the walk, as he talks the talk. Of course, individual Fireawall agents like the PC's can be good and noble. However, Firewall itself is the stuff of nightmares.

sentinals are the supposed to
sentinals are the supposed to be the polite and discrete method os finding out what is going, their primary function is investigation, and and either they will decide to shut it down in as discrete a manner as possible or they will relay to their proxy and their proxy will decide. Now when firewall does not want to be Polite and Discrete they send in Erasure Squads which enact scorched earth in such a way to make Stalin jealous. ultimately it is left up to our interpreation how often firewall comes and how many times they let something continue. I would say apart from TITAN related incidents FW probably only has to intervene once or twice a year
UnitOmega UnitOmega's picture
Sentinels are supposed to be
Sentinels are supposed to be the polite response (or at least mid-tier behind the guys who ID possible Firewall ops and do FW social engineering), but we, as external to the game universe, must also show meta-awareness that the Sentinels are often Player Characters and thus subject to the often mercurial and chaotic nature of a dude playing a dude pretending to be another dude. That is external to the universe though (kinda) and so should be moderated when considering the actual overall nature of Firewall.
