Math boost? Ouch!
Have been looking at math boost (available as ego merit, implant or slight) +30 to checks involving math, how far is it supposed to go?
Some tasks that involve math.
Hacking, programming,
navigation,
ballistic trajectory weapons,
chemistry,
demolitions,
biology,
writing narco algorithms,
accounting
The only tests I can think of that don’t involve math are most combat checks and making art although there are exceptions in both of those.

I am extremely strict when it
I am extremely strict when it comes to getting bonuses from things like Math Boost, or the Instinct sleight. The player has to be able to convince me (and the rest of the table) that it really makes sense that their ability to do Lorentz transformations in seconds helps with the particular task.
Hacking/Programming? Probably not. Knowing a lot of programmers, and quite a few white hats, they are almost universally bad at maths. That’s what the computers are for. Being able to do any of the calculations involved in the actual program doesn't really help them all that much. They know the theory, and how to apply it, but most wouldn't get any benefit from doing it in their heads.
Navigation? It could be useful, if they have the tools to make it useful. But getting from Regent Street to the Albert Bridge? No bonus there.
Demolitions? Maybe, if they had all the structural information on a building and needing to calculate where to put the explosives. But they would need to get all that information first. And if they have it, why not just run it through a computational model?
So, at my table, it doesn't go very far. A creative player might be able to get the bonus in a few places that I wouldn't think of. But they do have to be creative about it, not just make up a random reason. If it is thematically appropriate that their awesome multiplying skills come in handy, then they get the bonus.
It is applicable in knowledge tests a lot more than active tests, I have found. The ship we are on is burning retrograde and losing altitude? We need to know exactly how long we have before we de-orbit, and we happen to have our current orbital mechanics data but no computer? Never fear, we have Math Boy (even though the actual calculations would probably take a few minutes for anyone with training to back-of-napkin out).

While I've never actually had
While I've never actually had it used, when preping for stuff, I like to write down notes on what kind of bonuses may be appropriate to certain checks I have planned. Math Boosts and it's kind do not come up often.
Even so it has a couple of uses. As an implant, they're pretty cheap, the sort of think brain transhumans like to cram in along with Hyper Linguist (And most people I've seen take Eidetic Memory because it makes playing the game easier. The GM can just re-tell you information you already know but forgot OOC). Actually doing certain kinds of hard science, like Physics, would probably count. Depending on what your doing, a Navigation or certain kind of Piloting checks could work. Gambling for sure, assuming you're counting cards and not "playing the man". Cryptography maybe, depending on the encryption. Economics, Accounting and probably Banking. Really come in handy for being a Forensic Accountant. If you're using Investigation to analyze clues, and that involves math somehow.
Honestly, Math Boosts is probably one of those things you hold on to just in case as a player, or alternatively, it gives you a nice bonus if you have to default on something, assuming you already have a decent INT or COG, as a character who bought Math Boost.
