THE NORTH ATLANTIC CONSORTIUM
Page 92, Rimward: "...business elites throughout Scandinavia; and the Danish, Norwegian, and Swedish royal families." One can assume that these people, as head of state, was among the first that was evacuated during the Fall. As a Swede myself I can hardly see that the Royal Houses would have disappeared even in the times that Eclipse Phase take place. Scandinavians may be open minded and liberal but we are darn conservative in some matters, and the royal houses is one such thing. So... the question is; Where did they go? In my setting they took new names and morphs and stay in the shadows, operating in different cabinets and ministries. Who they really are is a well guarded secret in the Titan Commonwealth. Anyone having a different approach on the matter except "They all died..."? :)

royalty is a matter of blood,
royalty is a matter of blood, changing morph seems contrary to this idea past that I tend to see royalty like star who have there own starmania, if they are in the Titanian Commonwealth i tend to see them as people who use there rep to create high society project, rally other, etc. probably that if one don't want to do that, it will suffer a major rep lost but will be held from drowning by the other

What do you mean a butterfly cause this ? How a butterfly can cause an enviromental system overload on the other side of a 10 000 egos habitat ?

In my campaign the Swedish royal family was wiped out, but some royalists found a programmer on Luna who was next in line. They run a little court where the somewhat bemused king is struggling with the arch-conservative who is the head of the clique over what to do. Meanwhile Sweden as a legal structure has been folded into the Titanian Commonwealth, with some of the sovereign aspects bundled into a microcorp. That is presumably where some of the real elites have their hooks.

Hm...
... Good input from both of you. Arenamontanus: Think it is fun that the royalists doesn't even stop for the Fall; The King will prevail! :) In my campaign are there some of the subculture "Oligharks" on Titan who are the strongest royalists.

When everything is in chaos, where all old ideas are thrown into doubt, that is where certain people rally for the Good Old Traditions. Of course, most people even today regard royalty and nobility as a kind of remote entertainment or assurance that some things stay the same. They also have "near" traditions they emphasize: think of how many diasporas make a point about traditional holidays, the right family dinners, certain hard to get food or luxury items, or insist on certain memes. This is of course happening everywhere in EP. "What the /(¤/(#¤ did you do?! All my biohazard sensors in the hab went off! What *is* that stench?!" "Surströmming. Do you want a bite? We have fabbed snaps and tunnbröd too. Remember, it is the third thursday in August - cheers!" "Damn... I need to make some smell inhibitors. And *you* better clean the fabber and air after the party is done! ...damn Swedes. They think they own this dome."

Meanwhile the Scottish gene
Meanwhile the Scottish gene-engineer a small, three legged creature that has a proclivity to running around small hills and tastes suspiciously like haggis. The lack of the Scots in a northern Atlantic coalition is actually something of a curiosity to me. Given enough time, the chances for Scottish independence from the UK seem reasonable. Maybe not in the immediate future, but I could see it happening one day. We are historically fairly involved in innovation within traditional 'transhuman' technologies (science, biotech, and comp-sci), so I could see us remaining relevant. Plus we have generally kept good relations with the other members of NAC, and after independence we would hold the mineral rights to a fair share of the natural resources that they supposedly bonded over. TL;DR why no Burns Night on Titan?

Yes. That is so true.

Ha ha ha ha! Eliah: WTF? What are they doing? Muse: According to my information, Sir, this should be a "Midsummer dance". The pole in the middle is a symbol for a phalos. The song they play is "Små Grodorna" and is originaly a french march. We can expect the Swedes to be heavily intoxicated on alcohol and drugs during the coming hours. I suggest that you handle them with extreme caution... Eliah: F*cking Swedes... I am so fed up with their crazy traditions. We should airlock all of them...

I will implement haggis and Burns Night on Titan at ones in my campaign and setting. I love the idea.

Also, considering this thread - http://eclipsephase.com/space-acoustics - bagpipes in the outside Titanian atmosphere might be interesting. Not sure if they will be better or worse (or *both*).

Ha ha ha... Arenamontanus, you are so darn funny! I can see the entoptic reminders poping up every sunday; "No bagpipe-playing on sundays, as usual! Plese respect the votingresults of your neighbourhood!" A totally different question: Arenamontanus, have you been involved writing the chapter in Rimward about Titan? The writer seems to know a great deal about Scandinavia.

Haha... an oversight on my part. For now, you'll have to be settle for the fact that they celebrate Hogmanay on Mars. :)

Nope, that was me. In retrospect, I probably should have crowdsourced some of my research. As the descendant of an illegal alien from Norway, I have a certain fascination with Scandinavia. But I've never been there, so I make some mistakes (in particular regarding the languages, which I've been helpfully correct on in other threads)... all well noted for future revisions. I suspect Aremontanus would also differ with me on my somewhat rosy view of the Nordic economic model (and of course, he's lived under it, while I haven't), but that's another story.

I share Aremontanus "fate"; I
I share Aremontanus "fate"; I am also a Swede. If you want some input/feedback on the Titan-matter I gladly help you out or show you in the right directions. So far I think you have done a very good job and can't say that I have read any "WTF:s". I have to give you Rep for the part about the viking long-boats on the methane lakes; Hilarious! :D "It’s all amusement and diversions until someone goes berserk and has to resleeve after an axe fight." Ha ha ha! The politics of Scandinavia is quite complicated but I think you have "the Spirit" in a general sense. If you want to know more or have any questions, just drop a message. If you ever come visit Scandinavia (write it of as "Research";)) you have a place to crash and stash. Just let me know in good time.

Anything I get right is thanks to Scandinavia & the World (as opposed to my grandfather's insistence on eating herring at New Year's...). :)

Ah, herring... how could I forget to implement the "Genetic and environmental adapted herring" in the methane lacuses. :) Wonder what the taste would be like?

I suspect like herring that has lived its whole life in gasoline. Which *still* is better than surströmming!
