Someone needs to do something with this thread, anyways.
Foreword: I've never seriously put together an eclipse phase charachter before; At most, I've tinkered around with spreadsheets. I've been using the AltGen Charachter rules for , and I wanted to make some commentary. Putting it here, as this won't follow the typical questions asked of playetesters. Congratulations; I really, really think Posthuman Studios hit one out of the park with the new AltGen Charachter Packs. Putting together a charachter utilizing this was as easy as reading through the options, copying what I liked over to a text file, and then hemming and hawing over what I really wanted. Picking which PP I wanted was easily the longest part of chargen so far, and that was mostly due to the typical 'I want it all!' urge when making a charachter. Critique; The Alt CharGen Pack is a little schizoprenic in parts; I wasn't sure if I was reading a supplement to the normal charachter creation or a total replacement. IMHO, 'total replacement' is the way to go. I don't think it would be too difficult for someone completely new to Eclipse Phase to use the Alt CharGen Pack to make a charachter. However, there seems to be some information missing; for instance, there's no mention of starting Moxie, Starting Cred, or Starting Rep. If this is intentional, it might be best to make this clear, but for now I'm assuming that, yes, charachters using this still start with 1 moxie, 5000 creds, and 50 rep. Combat Skills; I was a little disappointed to find that, when I got toward the end of choosing packages, that I had no combat-relevant skills whatsoever. This required some backtracking; despite having 5 pp and 3 pp choices(Tech: Science Staff and Singularity Seeker, respectively), I had to go for customization packs to make sure my charachter could shoot and dodge in a pinch. At the very least, you might want to consider having all the 5 pp having atleast Fray 30 and Weapon Skill 30, so that those new to the system aren't left scrambling to be able to fight with a non-combat-focused charachter. Moxie; Most PBPs I've watched in Eclipse Phase have charachters with Moxie, at the very minimum, at 4. Right now, my exhuman-focused science-guy is sitting at 2 moxie - once I pick my Remade morph, I've only got 40 CP for customization, which is going to get eaten up rapidly if I want to get 2 more moxie and leaving me with slim pickings to customize my morph. Getting lots of moxie seems to turn into an 'powergame optimization' process at the moment. Just pointing this out as a potential pitfall for new players. Muses; There seems to be little to no support or mention of Muses in the Alt CharGen Pack. This might need to be something covered for someone coming into the game with no prior experience. (This might well be covered by the upcoming GearPacks, I don't know.) All together, I have to say I really like the overall way the Alt CharGen works so far.

Actually that's incorrect. There is no starting Moxie, credit or rep with this system -- those free points are built into this package system. It's why all of the background points have 1 point of Moxie, for example.

Out of curiosity, could we have a thread to post characters we've made using these rules, or would that not provide you with the sort of information you're interested in?

I assumed when using this system that it also replaces the points that you normally get from Faction and Background (which is why it require one pack from each), while at the same time allowing you to get more from Faction and Background if it makes sense. Is that correct?

Yeah. That's why you get 1100 CP (equivalent) with this system.
