What is the proper forum to indicate delivery preferences for a Kickstarter funding level, and is there any flexibility on how one's name appears on the credits? I've contributed, I'd like to pick things up at GenCon if possible, and would prefer to have a much less formal name than the one attached to more official documentation credited?
Hey Wageslave -- thanks for backing! :) When the Kickstarter ends, we'll be sending around Backer Surveys to everyone, and shipping/credits/etc. will be handled then!

Just saw the new stretch
Just saw the new stretch goals! I'm super pumped to see the 90 and 100k goals. While I love the detailed, customizable character creation, it can take quite a while and it's a lot easier to get new players into the system when that step doesn't take hours. For that reason and a few others, I'd already though about trying to convert EP to Fate at some point, so I'd be ecstatic if we make it there.

We just hit 80K and unlocked a brand new adventure from the team behind Know Evil -- and not only did we hit such a dollar amount, but we're north of 1400 backers now, which is awesome. Thanks so much! Onto Singularity and the Eclipse Phase Fate Conversion Guide!

FYI -- Kickstarter backers
FYI -- Kickstarter backers can add $30 to any pledge level for a pre-order of Singularity and access to the beta version (summer 2013). If we somehow don't hit the $90K level to unlock Singularity, we'll evaluate interest in it and either move ahead while honoring the add-ons, or issue $30 in credit to those who pledged extra towards it.

Out of curiosity, are we able to purchase add-ons through this site for our kickstarter purchase? I'm wondering because while I want to drop extra for Singularity, I want to hold off until such a time that it's actually unlocked. If that doesn't happen until AFTER the kickstarter is over, I'd like the possibility to get it. The FATE conversion book is free for those who got the "PDF and all extras" tier or higher, right? What about the epubs?

I posted this on the kickstarter site, but I'd like to repost here:
Quote:
Woah, woah... I kickstarted in order to unlock this software, but now I have to pay an extra $30? That was not explained on the main page... just in this update. I don't feel like that's how stretch goals are supposed to work... I thought a stretch goal was something that got included in the actual kickstarter project. Also, it sounds like you were already developing this software - "Singularity already supports character generation according to the core rulebook, and Snow Dog Labs is working on support for the Packs and Lifepath systems that we are adding in Transhuman!" So we "unlocked" something that was going to be developed anyway and then also have to pay extra to *use* the thing we unlocked? To quote Inigo Montoya: "This word... I do not think it means what you think it means."
I realize that you have mentioned in posts here and an update in the kickstarter site, but the main page lead backers to believe that by unlocking Singularity, it would be a part of the kickstarter package. It felt like a bait-and-switch and I'm seriously considering cancelling my backing status since I can A) get the book for the same price after it's published, and B) will have to pay for the Singularity software anyway. [edit] Ok, I did just see the "digital add-on" image on the homepage now... and after reading more in depth about addons and the 3rd party nature of the software, I'm less tantrumy. Sorry. I just got all excited and felt like the rug was pulled out...

Lysus, you can add Fate Conversion Guide for $25 if you are domestic, and $35 with international shipping. (It probably will ship after Transhuman.)

No, I'm good now. There's just so much going on in that kickstarter page I didn't really understand what it all meant until after the fact. I'm still backing at a slightly different tier, just had to go in and re-read everything more carefully. Sorry to get all kermit-arms on everyone.

Yes -- the easiest way is to add $25 to your pledge for Fate Conversion Guide in print, shipped domestically, or $35 to your pledge for it to be shipped internationally. Any pledge level that says "plus any other brand-new PDFs released as part of this Kickstarter" includes the Fate Conversion Guide PDF, as well!

It will be a PDF; we don't know yet if it will be available as an ePub. That will depend on interest down the line. The PDF is $5 as part of the Kickstarter, we haven't announced pricing for it post-Kickstarter.

I know how you feel. I had to drop my chance to get a character in the core books because of real life obligations. So I ended up dropping my donation just so that I could still get all the stuff I wanted. I'll still need to do some overtime when I get done with this vacation.

Current Rewards
I pledged in at Ultimate, because I'm a sucker for the sweet, sweet flesh of dead trees. It was also a great opportunity to give Posthuman some of my money, which I've been meaning to do for ages but its difficult to order the third printing of the core from overseas. Yesterday I got coupon codes for DriveThruRPG for the core book and Sunward; I'm wondering if there has been a snag getting the Rimward and hack pack coupon codes out? Has anyone else only gotten some of their codes?

Armoured, The codes are going out staggered because: a) sending out 1000+ codes out at time causes a strain on DriveThru's servers. b) it's the weekend and I've been out with friends, playing board games, etc. :)

Hey QubitBandit -- thanks for kicking in! :) The Morph Recognition Cards won't be ready for Gen Con; they rely on the new art being contracted for the Morph Recognition Guide, and that art can't be seriously worked on until after the Transhuman art is finished, which is in progress now. We'll probably have some sample cards available at the show, though!

So I have a question about
So I have a question about the business side of things that you can of course feel free not to answer. The extra products that got funded by stretch goals. Are those considered 'paid off' when it comes to development costs? Was each stretch goal amount determined by how much you assumed that that product might make? Like, in my mind $10,000 for an adventure sounds like quite a bit. Is the cost of producing an adventure by Caleb(RPPR) considered recovered simply by nature of being funded by the Kickstarter? I don't have any particular need to know, I won't use the information at all. I am just endlessly curious about the actual economics of a kind of mid range rpg publisher.

That's kind of a complicated
That's kind of a complicated subject. Some of the stretch goals will cost less to fulfill than others, which gives us some cushion against unexpected expenses. There's also some variables that we simply can't answer -- for example, many pledge levels are going to get the PDFs of our stretch goals as part of their backer rewards. Is this absolutely going to tank our sales of those PDFs when we release them down the road? If the sales of those PDFs tank, how does that impact the rest of the line and its visibility? We also don't know how this will impact how much we'll sell at Gen Con, or what the first vital few months of Transhuman will be like through distribution/retail sales. So, there's a lot of variables. I expect that in some cases, we're going to end up spending more than we anticipated on some of the stretch goals; that's just the nature of the beast. And of course, we have a list of "long term" overall improvements to Posthuman, and hopefully we can funnel some of the profit from Transhuman into those things, after we are sure that we can fulfill all of the rewards and stretch goals, of course.

I think you'll recoup any potential PDF losses simply by offering your books with a PoD option. I know that I'll probably buy the Morph Recognition Guide down the road as a PoD product. And I'm sure the FATE fans that get interested by the conversion guide will want a physical copy of that when it's available.

I don't want to talk about these things too much, because they're by no means set in stone. One of them is the "silly" stretch goal of buying 1000 ISBNs at the bulk rate of $1 each. (If you buy just 10 of them, they're $25 each, if you buy 100, they're $5.75 each) Who cares if we have 1000 ISBNs? Well, since some places like the iBookstore require us to have an ISBN for each title that is published there, we previously didn't put stuff on the iBookstore. Now we can put _everything_ that's in ePub format onto the iBookstore, even the $0.99 pieces of fiction, because they need to earn that much less to pay back those ISBNs. The ISBNs themselves aren't exciting. But having them -- and using them to get into more venues, is a good thing long-term for the exposure of Eclipse Phase and hopefully for our profits. Another small example -- we had a decent number of retailers back the Kickstarter project. All of them are going to get extra promotional material for EP, which will hopefully help grow the game in their area. We'll probably end up printing an excess of that material and distributing it to other stores. Six months ago, printing up a bunch of retailer-focused posters and mailing them out would have been something under the "nice to do, but we need to make a PDF or pay for part of the next print run with that money" category.

I have been out of touch with what's going on in EP and had no idea there was a kick starter for Transhuman going on until now. Is it too late to donate to the project via the Transhuman page on this site, it looks like people can still get into it, but the Kick Starter itself appears to be closed as of May 22nd. I just submitted $100 via Paypal for the Router backer level, and it went through okay, despite being a week past the supposed deadline. But, I do have some questions with regards to the Router backer level. Since the Router gets the "full electronic catalog on a USB drive or DVD", how is the format (USB or DVD) determined and when? Will I receive some sort of backer survey for this? Glad I could still participate and add to the funding pool! Thanks.

EP / FATE Core: draft or initial works ?
Hi there. I am very happy about the upcoming adapation of EP to FATE Core - I even preordered it already. However, I will probably start playing EP/FATE before the official conversion guide is released. So I'm wondering: are there any drafts already available, or people I could get in touch with to discuss this ? thanks for the marvelous work.
