Emergency Eject
Ok so I'm sure its there some where but I cant find it. What do I need to do to decant out of my Morph and take up life as an Infomorph, in an emergency? How quickly can this be done if it has to be done. Assume no other alternative no backups etc. Pointers to the pages would be good. MrE

Re: Emergency Eject
Your built in eject button for morphs is the Farcaster module. Essentially, it's a long range radio designed to transmit your ego over a long distance and powered by a tiny bit of anti-matter that is exploded when it's activated. This does destroy your old morph and mess up any outfits near to it at the time but hey, it's an emergency. All you need after that is a storage facility to receive the broadcasted ego and voila, you're an infomorph. I'm not sure but if you're in an area that's connected to the Mesh, you might not need the farcaster module as your ego automatically gets backed up through the Mesh and so you should be able to send your ego to a PC. Not sure though.

Wouldn't launching an alpha fork work?

Re: Emergency Eject
Yes I'm thinking alpha forking would work... but it wont once your internal storage for that fork is gone ... so what then you need to jettison the alpha fork. Questions: If you have a mesh connection and a storage destination for the data how quickly can you do this? effectively instantaneously? Do you even need a storage destination right away? [I think you do, but I'll ask the question - I know the mesh has plenty of distributed processing capacity but does it have plenty of 'temp' storage? Enough so that an alpha fork can jump straight into the local mesh and then find/negotiate a home? If your friend has a ghostrider module and you have a mesh link how quickly can you jump into that module?

If you're a synthmorph, you can do so immediately by copying your brain state over. If you're a biomorph (including pods), you need to be uploaded with an ego bridge, taking 5/10 minutes. See Uploading, pp. 268-269.

I thought pods had cyberbrains like synthmorphs.
That which doesn't kill you usually succeeds on the second attempt.

They have a combination of bio brain and cyberbrain. See the page refs I mentioned above.
