Somebody is using bad science! Snark, facts, snark.
Your body is corrupted: Cool, do more science to it.
Your mind is warped: That's nice, want a cookie?
What do we say to the God of Death? Not today!

Your Next EP Moment for the Day ...
Found this via Engadget, but it seems real enough. Perhaps someone can provide us some more background on this.

We are doing our best to analyse how to build seed AGI, make it safe (if it is possible) and figure out uploading. Totally normal to us, but it sure must look like science fiction to outsiders. I'll see if I can turn some papers into EP adventures.
The proto-Argonaut movement is growing.
They are our new rivals/colleagues in 'the other place': ideally, they will be investigating existential risk and help figure out how to understand and reduce it. Some good backing and core people, we are just hoping they get loads of funding too - then we will really have a strong anti-xrisk community here in the UK. One of the co-founders, Lord Rees, has the second coolest title I know of: Astronomer Royal (the coolest title IMHO is NASA's Planetary Protection Officer).
Incidentally, just to contribute another "EP in real life" moment. We in Oxford are hosting the AGI-12 conference next weekend. Check out the program, especially the impacts section at the end: —

Firewall Initiative
Maybe you can sell them on calling one of the committees "Firewall" or start interest in the above mentioned "Firewall Initiative", or something similar. Just not "Project Ozma", no no.

I wish people in the US took the notion more seriously. We as a people seem to have our priorities very screwed up when it comes to the long term.
I almost took the time off to go, but another trip to a conference in Barcelona has messed things up until 2013ce. Oh, well, that is what Youtube is for.
I have a few projects in development you might be interested in testing, then.

You think? Getting all worked up about global warming and not even having AI on the radar is screwed up? ;)
It isn't just long term there's a problem. People have their priorities screwed up, period. Thinking about short or long term goals rationally are just difficult and unintuitive and requires training and probably also natural aptitude.
