Because we ended up with Tuesday as our game night, we'll be starting in two weeks. I've got concert tickets for next Tuesday.

So we have our day and time,
So we have our day and time, then. Let's get medium confirmed. Elric has ever so eloquently expressed his dissatisfaction with AIM. I'm personally fine with either AIM or IRC. I've never actually used roll20 for online gaming, but it looks like it could be good as well (though we would only be using the text chat, not the audio or video)...it's got a good dice roller, and unlike IRC, would allow me to set up maps and tokens that we could use when the situation called for it.

I have no irc chat client,
I have no irc chat client, haven't irc'ed in forever, and would rather not need to install one. I really like AIM and it would be by far my first choice. Roll20... well, if I had to, I suppose.

I don't have any preferences WRT to messaging technology.

medium preference
So, I'm fine with whatever works for everyone else. Of the options listed, Roll 20 looks like a neat idea, but I'll have to make sure I can run the client on my Linux machine. As for IRC and AIM, I have a generic client that connects to either, and I have accounts on both, so I have no strong feelings either way about those two. edit: Oh, Roll20 a web client? Well, yeah, that'll almost certainly work fine for me unless it uses a particularly proprietary technology (*cough*MS Silverlight*cough*).

As for AIM chat, several
As for AIM chat, several things to keep in mind: * Since we are not using voice, its about as good a text-based forum as you're going to get. IRC offers no technical improvement over it, and has a steeper learning curve for those of us not connected to IRC already. * The AIM chat room has a built-in die-rolling engine, and it lets you roll anything from 1d2 to 15d100. I've been in an AIM chat for several campaigns online already in other RPGs, so I know it works. * AIM chat lets you save chatlogs of the room, allowing us to keep a handy record of what happened in our game sessions to refer back to later. This is the main reason I would prefer it over IRC and/or Roll20, who's logging options are respectively 'much less neat' and 'never having used, I have no clue if it even has any'. * AIM is also good for notepassing, between a player and the DM or between players. You can even open up a side chat that's players-only if you want, so the players can brainstorm out of the DM's earshot if you really feel paranoid. (Never done that, but its technically possible). So, yeah, AIM would be good. Roll20 would be OK. If it's going to be IRC... I was connected to IRC once way back in the dawn of time, and I am never going back there again. I found the chat interface (and I tried more than one client) to be ugly and the whole experience to be generally uncomfortable. So if you guys go IRC, that's fine, but I'll just drop out. You'll still have 4 players, so, game still survives.

The more I look at it, the
The more I look at it, the more inclined I am to go with roll20, personally. It has everything that you like about AIM and then some. It's web-based, so doesn't require any of us to install any programs. The dice roller looks to be more flexible than AIMs (I don't think AIMs does modifiers, only straight dice, so you couldn't make damage or initiative rolls without extra math.) It also saves the chatlogs for future review and allows for private messaging. On top of that, it'll keep track of initiative. You can upload character pics. I can load in maps or other graphics that will display to the entire group or just send them to individuals, so I can make handouts if I'm so inclined, and the public ones can be modified during the course of the game. Not sure how much of the graphics capability I'd actually use, but it might be nice to have available at times for NPC reference pics and things like that. I'll wait until I hear from those who haven't responded, though, to make a final decision.

roll 20 is my vote
Since I signed up today with a roll 20 account that's where i'm voting. I also like the interactive map because it'll help a ton when it comes to combat and clarifications

Tyrnis,
Tyrnis, If I want something illegal, like a Shaper morph or an unlicensed/unregistered gun, can I just pay for it at character gen as long as I buy a nano-fabricator and assume I hacked the fab device and downloaded pirated blueprints and added the nano-ware to a pleasure pod? Or would you rather I start without any legally questionable stuff and we roleplay the procurement?

Okay, with no strong
Okay, with no strong objections to roll 20, and a couple of us preferring it, we're going to try that out. If we find we don't like it, we can always switch. The player link for the campaign is: https://app.roll20.net/join/42984/zsjNJg For the most part, if you want something unlicensed/illegal, NP, you just buy it normally and make a note to me of which items it is. For something like a Shaper morph, I'll look for at least a brief explanation of how you got one in your backstory, but that's about all.

Current Status
Current Status cglasgow: David Pournelle - bio and sheet complete, fully approved elric225: Wally Reskev - bio and sheet complete, fully approved boomzilla: Bashir al-Ashari - bio and sheet complete, fully approved Kindalas: Kevin Anderson - bio and sheet received, mostly approved (feedback emailed) NewtonPulsifer: Don Bellanino - bio and sheet received, mostly approved (feedback emailed) Elric - The version of the sheet that you sent me is kind of weird -- only some of the skills are displaying, it's missing c-rep (as you pointed out)...you might want to re-download the current version of the spreadsheet. Boomzilla - To answer your question from the email, I have no problem at all with him running very small simulspaces locally for his private use during his downtime, rather than just logging into them via the mesh. An entire world would need a dedicated server, but your example of a small pub and things like that would be perfectly fine. Also, to everyone: don't forget to go in and add a quantity of 1 to the items that are free with your morph on the gear list. EDIT: Updated to reflect receipt of NP's sheet and to remove questions about climbing.

high climbing skill

even without his morph bonus, it's something he's amazing at.
I think that climbing skill is also factoring in the Grip Pads cyberware I added. It adds a +30 bonus.

Aha! And that's the case for Elric's character as well, so you can both safely disregard the question.

Question: Is there any cosmetic changes when getting the High-G adaptation? Would your character be thick wristed and squat? EDIT: That was one IC reason I didn't take it. The other, is that is seems way too cheap for what you get.

After reading the implant description I'd say it doesn't change the morph's appearance. However if I was winging it I'd say the cheaper the base morph the mode I'd distort their features. So a flat would be wide stubby and short. But a Crasher/Fury/Remade would be virtually unchanged. Course these are all speculations.

The description doesn't
The description doesn't suggest that it changes the morph's appearance, no -- but if you're not gatecrashing, there's really very few places where high-G modification makes sense from a story perspective.

It's to get that extra edge in the all-drug all-cyber olympic soccer game.

Hey, guys. I'm going to have
Hey, guys. I'm going to have to cancel tonight. A friend of mine is back in the hospital again, and this afternoon/evening was the best time for me to visit. I'm not sure how late I'll be there, so better to just hold off until next time rather than have you guys go hang around roll20 just in case.

No Worries
I watched Sherlock instead. I made the mistake of watching Elementary and needed to wash my brain. Also did you get a chance to review my repaired character sheet?

Sorry, no. We've got five players, which is my upper limit. At this point, unless more than one person dropped, we won't be recruiting new players.
