Advancing Timeline/History
On other threads the topic of weather or not EP should have an advancing timeline, or full on metaplot, has been debated as a side topic. There are advantages and disadvantages to having the setting have an advancing timeline. I will let others sketch those out as they see fit. I have another solution. Instead of having a rigid timeline have a more flexible continuum of events. For one both the past and future are mutable in this setting. There is no direct translation from years PF to years AD (quite a feat given how many clocks and automated calendars Transhumanity has lying around); though we know it is probably around 2150 AD give or take a few decades. The idea is to have a general order of events that will happen or are very likely to happen and historic timeline written out with each new edition of the setting extending the history by a number of years and adding to the timeline. One could even do a version of the setting back in time such as at 5 PF or even during the fall itself. Though the latter would be better suited for an optional campaign guide.

The setting is just words.
The setting is just words. Write them. The rules are guidelines. Make them. Your campaign is the world. Change it.

The Future is Now!
One big problem is that advances are often linked to political and historical changes (think the effect altering budgets and governmental priorities have on science and culture even now). Thus any forecast out more than a year-or-so would probably end up having to be so general as to be pretty useless. Things move fast in EP! That said, building up the present setting with more detailed information on, say the fields that various hypercorps are researching and developing, would enable a GM to extrapolate future products and story plots. That sort of current background, factors that have repercussions and which lead on out into possible future developments are interesting. It also helps to "round out" even more and add depth to the setting.

I don't want to see anything
I don't want to see anything so close to the current timeline. How about 100AF or 250AF. The galaxy is going to look crazy. Crazy awesome.

I think having a slowly
I think having a slowly evolving time line is better then having what amount too a few different settings. After a game is old enough and has advanced its time line, then you always have the option of playing in past timelines.

OK, so this will be a setting where neo-synergists are as quaint as Victorian gentlemen with typewriters. I just wonder how you roleplay an async AGI quantum field?

Neutron star morph? So blase. The new material on quasar morphs is so much better; they don't receive the -10 social penalty when dealing with people that see in 4 or more dimensions. Shoot, I can't find my book. I'm trying to create a new dimension with a hardware check; does anyone remember what the interval on the extended test was? I think it's 3 picoseconds, but I always forget.

God? I thought everyone agreed that was the most underpowered background? :P
