Experienced player looking for online/Skype group.
Hey now. Quigs here. Played EP a few times, GM'd it in person for a few months until the group fell apart. Books have been collecting dust, and I miss the game. I'd like to join up with an online group. I've got a friend and former player who'd be interested in joining as well if things work out.

I'd be down for a game. I GM a regular Sunday night group in meatspace and keep a tight schedule on an oWoD MU* (which seems to be dying out sadly). I'd love to play more EP.

I'd totally be up for it as well? I haven't gotten a chance to play yet, WHICH IS A DAMN SHAME >_<

It's more or less finding a guy willing to GM it and grabbing enough attention that will allow for 75% to drop out before the first game, but still have enough players to move on.

Out of curiosity, which oWoD MU*? I play on GarouMUSH, so just curious if you're someone I know. While I'm not looking to GM at this point, I'd be willing to run the occasional story arc on down the line so that the primary GM would have the chance to play some, too, and am very much interested in getting the chance to play. I'd prefer text-based to Skype, though I'll do either, with my first choice being playing on the EP MUSH that was under construction (not sure if Blarney is still doing anything with it or not, and chargen hasn't been coded, but dice rolling is coded and it beats out IMs or IRC in my view.) As far as availability goes, I have RL games on Sunday and Monday evenings, but am pretty flexible outside of that.

Cajun Nights. I don't mind GM'ing if that's what it will take, but I'd be glad if someone would take back up from time to time. Text, voice, or video I don't mind any of them. Perhaps http://roll20.net/ ? And I didn't realize that there was an EP MU* going up. That could be great too.

Ah, Cajun Nights! Never played there, but I've heard of the place. Didn't realize it was one of the WoD games that was still around. The EP MUSH is at atimeofeclipse.net, port 9889. There's not much code or grid, but there are RP rooms that have customizable descs and an automated dice roller, which is more than sufficient for a weekly game. I ran mine there for several months. So you GMing, me as your backup...we've got a fair bit of interest on the player side, so I think we've got a chance to make this happen. What kind of game are you most interested in running? I tend to lean more toward localized games when I'm running, with either Noctis-Qianjiao or Valles-New Shanghai as the base of operations, personally, but as a player I'm game for just about anything.

Hey, I'm new to the forums. I would really like to play EP. I've been listening to Caleb's Know Evil campaign at the RPPR site and am completely in love with the system/universe. I've played a lot of Saga and CoC, even combined them and gave my players nightmares, so I'm all about the sci-fi horror/action. mahalo

Assuming a GMT friendly play time that I can make, I would be very interested in playing some EP. I haven't played using the system, and am still pretty new to it, but I do have years of roleplaying experience with multiple games, so I should be able to pick it up pretty quickly.

Re: Experienced player looking for online/Skype group.
Well it looks like we have quite a bit of interest. I am located in the EST. What are the other time zones we're dealing with? It will determine how we run the game. If we're fairly close then perhaps we can run over a virtual tabletop such as http://roll20.net If we're widely distributed we have to go a little more asynchronous and use a mailing list or forum. So let me know. Also, start thinking about the kinds of things you're interested in. I'm not much of a "babysitter DM," so don't expect a deep plot formulated to your character's 3-part novella background. Instead give me themes or ideas. Are you interested in horrors from beyond space and time? Clandestine corporate espionage? The nature of humanity and whether we actually matter in a universe that obviously doesnt care about our existence? It's okay to start thinking about the kind of personality your character is, but let's leave the specifics out until we've figured out some of the high level parameters of our story. No sense playing an outer-system grifter if we're goin to be heavily invested in playing out Jovian political intrigues... Cheers

Re: Experienced player looking for online/Skype group.
I tend to favor games that lean more toward mystery and investigation, be that engaging in corporate espionage or exploring alien ruins on a distant exoplanet. I'm in CST, and strongly prefer IRC/IM/MUSH or some similar format rather than PbP. I can't do Sundays or Monday evenings, but am pretty open outside of that. Character-wise, I'm currently leaning toward a somewhat more combat-oriented character who sleeves in a Fury. The specifics will depend on the nature of the game -- probably a Ranger if we're set on Mars, security if we're playing a Gatecrashing team, and so on.

Whereas I don't particularly care for voice, but will grudgingly tolerate it if that's the group consensus, with the caveat that there is no voice program that I use for anything else, so any initial scheduling will need to be done here.

Re: Experienced player looking for online/Skype group.
Check out roll20.net -- it does have a hybrid of voice and text. I would prefer voice/video myself for the higher-bandwidth communication. Especially if this is a game we can only fit in bi-weekly or something. Theme-wise it seems we're leaning towards a mystery/espionage type game. Any other suggestions?
beej beej's picture
Re: Experienced player looking for online/Skype group.
I don't have a preference in format. Although PbP can be slow at times. I do not have video but I do have a mic/headset. As for theme, I'm done for anything as long as we get combat thrown at us from time to time. As for character, I'm leaning towards using the Mercurial Investigator pregen since I'm really new.

I would be interested as well, Timezone: CST, days weekday evenings and potentially sunday. Dislike to much meta-gaming, try to avoid it, and will generally ask if my character would know something before assuming it does. Hey, I'd like in, too, if you don't have too many players. I'm on the east coast good for Monday, Friday and Sunday evenings (late on Sundays), and prefer voice to text. As for play styles, I personally try to play the character as I write him/her, though not to the determent of the group. Any sort of investigation or espionage sounds good to me. Any kind of horror is fine. No experience here, sadly; I haven't had a chance to introduce EP to my group. I'll play whatever the party needs, though I'd prefer a sneak to a thug.

Re: Experienced player looking for online/Skype group.
I'd be interested in finding an online group. I ran EP for about a year. We had fun with it but we ran out of material and interest. My players always want to fall back to typical fantasy stuff so we are on Pathfinder now. It is a shame. D&D is easy to run but boring for me after 30 years GMing. I'd like to play perhaps or listen in. Can't say I've played online for very long successfully. I typically like the face to face social interaction. I'd like to see more fully realized EP material. I don't understand the genre well enough to make up everything myself. Besides I am drawn to the uniqueness of this genre and want to see what some of Rob's fully realized material.

Would be nice to have another GM. I can run the game for the first handful of sessions. Mondays work great for me, though I'd like to keep the sessions to 3 hours if that's cool. I find 4 a bit of a stretch and I do have to get up for work in the mornings. Say 8 - 11? If anyone has links to pregen'd baddies ready for tweaking I'd greatly appreciate it btw. That's one area of the game our group has struggled with playing EP.

@mthbrthr, for baddies, I am more of an improv style GM. So I do quick and dirty stat blocks. Using page 174 as guide for skills and using page top of 377 for layout. Stats I keep basic, 15 to all, add in morph bonuses. For skills I use the array 60,50,50,50,40,40,40,40,40 for pyramid layout, add in morph bonuses as well. Toss in a handful of relevant augs, give motivations if needed and perhaps a sentence to a paragraph if you want some fleshing out. A bare bones soldier in a Olympian might look like: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------
COG COO INT REF SAV SOM WIL MOX 15 20 20 20 15 25 15 — INIT SPD LUC TT IR DUR WT DR 8 1 — — — 40 8 60 Movement Rate: 4/20 Skills: 65 Kinetic Weapons, 55 Fray, 55 Squad Tactics, 55 Infiltration, 55 Free Running, 55 Unarmed Combat, 40 Kinesics, 45(65) Perception, 40 Intimidation Weapon (75): Automatic Rifle: AP: -11 DMG: 2d10+4 Clip: 30 Armor Piercing (4 clips) Armor (19/20): Heavy Body Armor (16/16), Full Helmet (3/3), Heavy Bioweave (3/4) Implants: Eelware, Enhanced Vision, Medichines, TacNet Personality: Career Soldier, Loyal, Ruthless
------------------------------------------------------------------------------- With a blank stat block looking like:
COG COO INT REF SAV SOM WIL MOX 15 15 15 15 15 15 15 — INIT SPD LUC TT IR DUR WT DR * 1 — — — -Morph- Movement Rate: Skills:60,50,50,50,40,40,40,40,40 Notes:
EDIT: Realized I messed up my movement.

Re: Experienced player looking for online/Skype group.
Alright, I've been a little quiet on the forum and I missed out on the Skype meetup last week, however I'd like to get the game underway. So this first inaugural post to the list (which I will cross-post to the forum for those who haven't subscribed to the list yet) is going to contain a short guideline on building your character background. I won't be using these backgrounds as the primary driver of the story (at least at first) but they will help shape the game I think if done well. I don't expect whole novels (and wouldn't have time to read them all) but the more depth the better. I prefer backgrounds that highlight the key defining motivations for a character. A summary of the most important events that led them up to the story that we're about to embark on. That being said I did mention that this post was a guideline to developing those stories. I've played a lot of story-heavy games and have let players take complete freedom in developing their backgrounds and have found that unless we're all thinking the same thing it would require a lot of suspension of belief to bring the characters together and motivate them to stay together. What I find works best is to meet the DM half-way and that's what I'm trying to do here. I'm going to plant a seed in this post that I hope will help you spawn a great back story that you will be totally in to, that is unique and completely your own, while still being tied to the game and the other characters in it. So... what is Firewall? It is a shadow organization with a clandestine agenda. It operates in cells with no apparent central authority. It has seemingly endless resources and spares no expense for its agents. The kinds of missions it undertakes would raise the brow of many die-hard sceptics. Talking about Firewall as if it actually existed to anyone but those in the know would make that person sound absolutely crazy. So how did you end up working for them? Firewall is closely monitored by several Jovian governmental agencies and many elite hyper-corps executives. Knowing about Firewall would take several levels of clearance and a "need-to-know," situation. In the eyes of some of these institutions, "Firewall," is a terrorist organization of paranoid fanatics. If such an organization is to survive it must rely on a network of highly trusted individuals and layers upon layers of proxy- and double-agents. It must recruit sparingly and ensure that it taps recruits that are in a unique position to accept and advance their agenda... ... and against all those odds they came to you. You haven't been an agent of Firewall for very long. You know very little about how they operate. But you've been in touch with a mesh ID belonging to someone named, "Ju-Long," for a few weeks or a couple of months now. He hasn't asked you to do anything extreme yet but whatever he has talked with you about makes sense some how. Maybe you've done a small job for him already -- recently he's been hinting at something big coming up. ------ So fill in the missing details. What was your character doing when Ju-Long contacted them? What did Ju-Long say or offer that convinced your character that Firewall was the real deal? What about this character kept them from walking away and believing Ju-Long was just some troll or paranoid tin-foil hat conspiracy nut? It would be a good idea to think of a motivation derived from this background so that following up with Firewall would help them to achieve some sort of personal agenda. Also, I trust everyone to keep track of their own character sheets. I will ask that you send me your aptitudes and (if you have one) your muse's aptitudes along with your Perception skill, your list of motivations, your rep scores, and your faction (if any). I'm looking for characters from the Asteroid belt at the farthest without a very convincing background (loner types who live at the extreme edges of the solar system are going to be extremely difficult if not impossible to play in this campaign). Otherwise you have free reign. Just keep your character believable. It may be the far future but it's unlikely everyone walks around the habitat with a full-loaded rail gun handy. Let me know if anyone has any questions. I foresee the first session involving some character-creation and perhaps kicking off a bit of the adventure if we're all on the same page. Cheers and look forward to gaming with all of you.

Re: Experienced player looking for online/Skype group.
Yeah, my group here played EP for about a year until we started running out of the few canned scenarios I could get a hold of. A couple months after I started making my own stuff up, people started 'forgetting' or having things 'come up'. Usually that means they don't like what I'm doing or they want to switch campaigns. We switched to Pathfinder and noone has missed a session in months. D&D/D20 Fantasy are pretty much what my players want to play. I have been running that for 30 years with occasional diversions into Top Secret, Star Frontiers and ShadowRun but they usually want to come back to Fantasy. EP was too different for a couple of my players and they resisted it. I just wish they had more material. I love the setting/genre (I like Transhuman Space too but couldn't get players to play long) but I suck at making up stuff. It is MUCH harder than fantasy stuff to come up with it. I have one player that I run a Traveller campaign with when noone else can make it. Traveller has TONS of material but more space opera-ish and less gritty dark future hard sci-fi that I like about EP.

Re: Experienced player looking for online/Skype group.
Sorry about that, had to run out of state for a funeral, took over most of my week as just getting home today. Posted to the skype group as such, neglected to do the same on these forums, for that I am sorry. I do plan to play, but turned to be a rather poor timing for my end as the death was unexpected and my departure swift. EDIT: Made some progress on my character, and sent the background to mthbrthr. I would here make a suggestion of the characters having a shared back history between each other. The best example I can think of would originate from the FATE system. I suggest this because I feel it would help establish a bond between characters early on, and not a group of strangers meeting for the first time. Below is basically an extended concept/background (spell checked this time, sorry mthbrthr for skipping that earlier) of my character. Would love the idea of intermingling backgrounds some and having her actually knowing some of the other characters prior to the first session. I feel it would help group dynamics quite a bit.

Has a moderate addiction to Mono No Aware, from her heavy use to boost her artistic side in both painting and dancing, which she has some acclaim for. She largely lives up to her name, making XPs of her exploits and sharing them over the mesh. She loves the Argonaut stations around Luna, and has been spending sometime there as of late. Jinx was researching her own death on earth during the fall she found an partial XP from herself that was mostly corrupted, the few bits of sensory data she was able to pull off had an unrecognizable life form. During her attempts to identify this, she was contacted by Ju-long with some interesting information, able to describe features of the life form to Jinx without ever seeing the data. This intrigued Jinx'd and in time came to ask how she learned about this, and was told a bit about Firewall. Using her known associates to look further into Ju-Long, found no evidence of deception saw this as a good opportunity to gain access to information and resources beyond her current means, and possibly find what happened to her on Earth during the fall.
