Sandstorm Productions
Look everyone, its Publisher News Time! http://sandstormllc.com/ Looks like the Cthulutech chappers have founded their own publisher and are working with Posthuman in some capacity. Sure we will hear something from the Dev types soon enough. Speculation time! Wonder how far out Sunward is now.

My guess is that you found the as-of-yet-unannounced publisher that Posthuman found in the wake of the Catalyst fiasco... and apparently Wildfire jumped to the same one. [/obvious statement]

Sandstorm is made up of former Catalyst employees, so it isn't too surprising a move, I think. It was already suspected that Sandstorm would likely be the publisher for both companies for that reason.

The link is down now. Hm. I worry about the future of this game sometimes, especially during their excusable but regardless long period of silence they're having right now.

Sandstorm folded due to financial difficulties quite some time ago. PHS, and thus Eclipse Phase, is now entirely published in house. =)

That's good to know! I'm curious what the publishing history of EP exactly is. I mean, I remember hearing originally it was supposed to be a Shadowrun 4th Edition supplement or something... then it went independent by Posthuman... my old PDF says they were published by Catalyst, so on and so forth. I mean, I didn't even know that it was just two people working on the game - which is a real surprise!

From what I understand, it was originally not going to be a supplement, but a new game set in the far future of the Shadowrun universe, after the horrors return. The opposite of Earthdawn. Then some stuff happened and it became the current game instead, so Rob, Brian and Adam could have their own property to play with rather than using Catalyst's property. I heard rumors that a copy of the original planned game got laid out at some point on Dumpshock. Did that happen? Anyone snag a copy before it disappeared? I would love a peek at that....

Re: Sandstorm Productions
As far as i understood it, it was meant to be a standalone game from the beginning, though many people interested in Shadowrun got exposed to it simply because of Rob, Adam and Brian working for CGL that time. I think every connection to Shadowrun then was simply the rumor mill working and when i compare the game as it is to some strange Shadowrun sequel, it worked out better.

I may be wrong about this, but I think that you're thinking of another game ... that game, Equinox, still exists (or, rather, will exist at some point in the future): http://www.vagrantworkshop.com/index.php?categoryid=12&p2_articleid=13 I remember Eclipse Phase being it's own thing many years before it was released, back when they handed out those little red-covered storybooks to folks that took part in their GenCon demo games.

No, Equinox was more recent, and its quite a bit different. I heard tell that what Rob and Adam were working on prior to it becoming Eclipse Phase was something a few hundred years into the future of Shadowrun. And hey! I found confirmation of this! Here's an actual post from this very forum about this topic. You can find the original link here.

We weren't actually discussing about rebooting Shadowrun as a more transhuman setting, but while we were working on SR4, we did also discuss a potential game/setting that took place in Shadowrun (and also Earthdawn's) future. We tentatively called this Shadowrun 2600, and the idea was that it would be a future where the horrors had returned and basically taken over the Earth, and metahumanity was forced to live in space, but they still raided down to Earth (maybe even exploring hi-tech kaers down there). Anyway, we decided we didn't want to develop an IP that we didn't own, so we took things in a different direction and eventually ended up with Eclipse Phase (though as you can see, some elements of that initial idea seed, like the ruined Earth, still remain).
