Rep economy and favors
Okay I have another newbie question that my serach-fu is failing... In a rep based economy, are favors per rep or just per character? For example if a character calls in a level 5 favor using @-Rep, can they also at the same time call in a level 5 favor with g-Rep without expending actual rep points (burning rep)?

Favors are based on the individual rep network, not by character. If you've got both your g-rep and @-rep high enough, then yes, you can call in a level 5 favor on each network at the same time. Being well-connected on multiple networks is a big advantage.

I don't really have anything mechanical to add to Tyrnis' comment, but from a setting/rp standpoint having a really high rep with multiple factions (especially opposing factions) can put a person in quite a bind. One of my players has been trying to cultivate reputation almost to the exclusion of anything else. He's affraid of being forgotten (tied to some serious paranoia). That being said I've had NPC's and one PC hit him up for opposing favours already and though he's managed to cleaverly satisfy people he's also developing something of a title as a "Rep Whore" or someone that tries to be everything to everyone and just comes off being douchey :-) It's been hilarious to have him second and third guess party actions based on what it could do to his rep. Complete with "guys I can't be seen here..."

Yay, you are doing high rep the right way :D I once had a player purposely tank their F-rep because, and I para/quote 'these fucking harpies won't fucking leave me alone!' I am a firm believer in high rep being a double bladed sword.

Thanks for all the replies and advice. Everyone in my group have high @-Rep, and moderate levels in other reps. I'm trying my hand at running a Gate Crashing game out of Fissure Gate. Our first session went pretty well, not the horrer-setting that the setting really allows for, but I'm going to try and work my way up to that.

I'd add only that nothing prevents you from having opposing reputation favours... with different identities. Of course, the player needs to make some sort of effort to keep things looking good (that means redact some stuff between playing sessions, about two or three phrases for each identity he has not used). After all, yes, you have a Muse that can keep feeding stuff to your livelog, but you need to give her some guidance to avoid it to sound, well, too artificial!
