Question about Factions and companies
I have have about factions and companies, independent ones if any. Are there any that deal with spaceship transportation and more specific dealing in cargo ships, long-range supply convoys and possibly shuttles for non-egocasting morphs and non-morphs?

Um... Starware Omnicore Comex the Factors I'm asumeing you knew about those cauz they're all in the core book but maybe I don't understand your question... Starware and Omnicore are independant they haven't been allowed to join the PC cauz the don't play nice with eachother.

Mea Culpa: My mode of speech can make others feel uninvited to argue or participate. This is the EXACT opposite of what I intend when I post.

I knew about Starware and Omincore but they are more ship builders than employing pilots and doing the services. The Factors are an alien species not a factionor a company. Comex on the other is only one I see that fits and I totally miss that first time i read that chapter. :)

Wasn't ComEx the company with "zombie ships" that would blow themselves instead of allowing any kind of boarding? Anyway, if you need companies... you can have as much as you need. The Planetary Consortium has a lot of them (mostly façades for the big players that have a sit in the governing council), and then there are the microcorps of Titan. So add what you want, and if you need names... well, who says you can't use today's companies? They might have survived the Fall... or be resurrected by interested parties! Keep it simple, and give the players some feeling of familiarity. Even if it's only superficial... ^^

Blow themselves? I don't think I want my nieces reading this game anymore. :P You're thinking of Zbrny Limited. Comet Express is a shipping and logistics company that maintains trade routes throughout the system. Their ships are also treated with hostility by the Junta for reasons that haven't been revealed yet.

I had an AGI PC hijack one of their ships in yesterday's game session. It was a meticulous operation, making clever use of month-long planning, infiltration into dock security, nanosabotage and very high levels of hacking. In the end, as the PC gained access to the ship AI she was dismayed: "I have just killed... a roomba." The ship was mysteriously stupid. As for other transport companies, lets make up a few: Xùnsù Transport: LLA transport company, running shuttles in the Earth-Luna system. One of the old holdovers from pre-Fall China, with a bunch of staff from the former PLA. Utilitarian, but with a certain nostalgic feel... like Aeroflot. Starbow: Passenger transport in the inner system. Operates regular traffic between the inner planets and their Lagrange points, as well as Extropia and Ceres. Mēṇḍhaka kūda: Small-scale transports around Jupiter and Saturn. Half extropian co-op, half extended family of ultimates of Indian extraction. XPlamya Logistics: Long-range transports across the solar system. Involved in business battles with ComEx, which is slowly squeezing them out in the inner system. Has a noticeable presence of mercurials.

I'm game for this! MegaFreight LLC: Logistics hypercorp specializing in the transport of massive hauls. Houses a large fleet of bulk carriers, but wealthy clients can opt to have their shipments moved by multiple couriers hauling in unison. One of the few transport hypercorps in the system that offers hab-moving services. Easy Travel Interstellar: Combination freighter company and body bank. Easy Travel can transport your body in cold storage, whether you occupy it or not. Customers can be notified when their body arrives at its destination, and receive free resleeving services upon delivery. Jaunt: Former asteroid belt smugglers-turned "legit" businessmen, Jaunt offers an anonymous transport service for goods throughout the system. Does not guarantee delivery of goods into a habitat, only near it (maintains 25,000 km distance for safety purposes) for the customer to pick up on arrival. Costs are exorbitant, and require a security deposit in case the cargo is volatile. Rumored to have Darkcasting services. Has a shaky relationship with the rest of the Consortium. Starwalkers: An mercurial microfaction of AGI that have chosen to live as spaceships, the Starwalkers have formed a hypercorp in order to make money off the inner system. It isn't uncommon for them to grant shipping as a favor to those they like, and individual Starwalkers are only expected to share their earnings with fellow Starwalkers in need.

Re: Question about Factions and companies
Sorry if this is a wall of text. Here's my addition to the shipping companies pile: Exxon-Arroyo - Planetary Consortium Exchange tag EXA - Reactor mass transportation and logistics corporation Exxon is a bit different from its 21st century incarnation. With the decline of fossil fuels the company was broken apart several times due to failing finances but eventually became a transportation and logistics company. They specialized in tanker transport but also branched out into other forms of heavy industrial logistics. They remained closely tied to the energy sector and were instrumental in the logistics market as China began to import reactor mass in large quantities for their state nuclear projects. With their star once again on the rise they acquired Arroyo Logistics, a fledgeling breakaway company based out of Luna that specialized in transporting fusion reactor mass from the moon to the various habitats and sky-hooks in near Earth space. Exxon used their solid earth-based financial backers to improve the standing of Arroyo within the Lunar Lagrange Alliance, and steadily began transport of their operations, staff and assets off-world. When the Fall came, there was only one corporate arcology owned by the company on Earth, and much of their internal operating structure has remained intact post fall. During the Fall, Exxon-Arroyo cargo ships were involved in several well known acts of heroism wherein they took on large quantities of passengers fleeing habitats under attack and transported them to safer locales. The freighter Darker Skies was tragically lost during these daring operations resulting in the destruction of the ship, the habitat they were docked with, and the real death of all Egos aboard both vessels. Public mesh knowledge of the final hours of Darker Skies is incomplete at best and there have been ample spacer myths and conspiracy theories associated with the event ranging from heroic detonation of the vessel to take out an exsurgent threat, to simply blundering on the behalf of those involved. However, there are still many people that owe their current existence to Exxon-Arroyo which has earned them some stellar PR in the last decade even though most of the employees that performed these actions have since been laid off or transitioned to other corporate employers. Exxon-Arroyo currently leases and opperate eight heavy transport vessels. Amongst them are: the Harker-Stoltz, the LRI Ventura, the Frontier IX and the Eckhart Pasely. The ships they use are OLD and would be mothballed by most modern logistics corporations. The fact that they use these tubs to haul reactor mass...I guess the more things change the more they stay the same :-). This lends a little credence to the stories of the Darker Skies fiasco having been a result of a venerable ship pushed beyond its limits. However, Exxon-Arroyo has very short employment contracts with outrageous payouts upon completion and fantastic benefits packages. Not to mention there will always be a bit of respect given (ie Rep boost) to anyone that actually survives crewing one of these antique vessels with their morph intact. Amongst spacers, this is refered to as "getting a tan" due to the inferior radiation shielding these ships have. Ed was running thin on options and his quarterly body mortgage payment was rapidly approaching collection status..."well...I suppose I could always go get a tan with Exxon..."
