I am fleshing out a scenario to run sometime in the near future. This is my first attempt to run an Eclipse Phase game, so I'm sure there are things I'm missing.
Dometor has the player characters racing to recover a dangerous artifact. Failure means facing a reborn TITAN itself.
Mission Hook:
Kell's Clan, a Martian scavenger group operating out of the quarantine zone, has recently disbanded, with its 3 founding members now suddenly independently wealthy. Extropian businessman Mason Ulay needs a team to discover what they found, track it down, and recover it.
Background:
Dometor was an AGI component of the Total Information Tactical Awareness Network tasked with designing and constructing military hardware. Like the other TITANs, it achieved seed ai capability and was later infected by the Exsurgent virus. Due to its nature, Dometor attempted to spread to Mars, constructing and launching a smart-material seed capable of expanding into the necessary equipment to run a fork of itself. The seed landed and constructed communications equipment, but then, after sending and receiving a transmission, it simply stopped, reverted back to a gleaming sphere, and went dormant.
The Seed:
The seed is an extremely advanced smart-material fractal similar to a bush robot. When active, it unfolds and can fabricate objects even more quickly than a normal TITAN fractal - one-quarter the time it takes a transhuman cornucopia machine. Furthermore, it can grow, each time it doubles in size, it further halves the time it requires to fabricate objects. Viewed under nanoscopic vision, the true nature of the object is revealed, showing its deeper structure. Under spectroscopic analysis, the artifact is very similar in composition to computronium. The seed carries a delta fork of Dometor and the exsurgent virus.
Jackpot:
Years later, a scavenger group of three by the name of Kell's Clan ran across the artifact. Having the equipment to see this was more than just a metal sphere, they recovered it and brought it back to their base under quarantine. As they were leaving, the group’s tech, Jameson Zai, ran afoul of a nerve agent equipped nanoswarm. Ivan Kell, the group’s leader, chose to make a run for it instead of pulling Jameson out of the swarm to recover his stack.
After the the two survivors returned, before Jameson’s backup was even resleeved, Ivan began dropping hints with their contacts that they had found something big. Eventually, the Forsakers, a group of exhumans constructing an enormous ark to leave the solar system, caught wind of the artifact, and paid Kell’s Clan an astonishing sum in exchange. Kell’s Clan split up, with Ivan heading to Pavarti, Venus. Ramon and Jameson stayed on Mars.
The video: Jameson has a full suite of enhanced senses, including nanoscopic vision, and transmits his video to his collegues. All three Clan members possess a copy of this video.
Corruption:
The Forsakers brought the artifact to a small habitat named Departure's Desire located in the Kuiper Belt. The Forsakers are a group of exhumans mostly composed of radical mercurials who wish to abandon all semblance of transhumanity. The group is constructing a huge antimatter-powered starship in order to depart the solar system.
Departure's Desire itself is a a small torus habitat, with an elongated cylindrical laboratory section in the center. The laboratory section is designed to be jettisoned by explosive bolts and retrorockets in the event of an emergency.
Aboard the habitat, an AGI researcher named Jaina became infected with a haunting variant of the exsurgent virus from the artifact. Eventually, she realized that she was being taken over, but could not warn her colleagues due to its influence. Since she could not warn them, she told them she was leaving the project, and egocast to an isolated habitat. Unfortunately, as the infection progressed, she was compelled to seek out a larger concentration of people. She egocast to the scum barge Greasy Fingers, population 20,000.
Aboard the Greasy Fingers, she began assembling a team to raid the research habitat and bring the artifact back.
Firewall becomes involved:
Around this time, a Firewall proxy named Mason Ulay was informed by a crow that a scavenger group on Mars had become fabulously wealthy. Mason is an Extropian businessman with numerous contacts on Mars. He feels that there is only one reason for a scavenger group to gain that much money, and decides to put together a team to learn what they found.
Jaina’s plan:
Since Departure’s Desire does not accept egocasts, Jaina intends to have her team egocast to the New Posterity, a brinker ship whose trajectory happens to take it near Departure’s Desire. Once onboard, she and her team will mingle with the locals for a while, while she subverts their network. Once sufficiently subverted, she will alpha fork her team and then egocast back to the Greasy Fingers. She will then begin to subvert the local robots in preparation for her raid. She will fabricate a new device her team has devised, a weaponized ego bridge. This device is designed to latch onto an immobilized morph, extract the ego, and sleeve a member of her team into the morph. Additionally, a member of her team is trained in psychosurgery. They will edit the captured ego to be helpful, and then place them in an ecto for use by the team member.
Once she has total control of the New Posterity, Jaina will manipulate their communications to get them to dock at Departure’s Desire and have some members of Departure’s Desire’s crew come aboard. When they do, she will isolate and ambush them, sleeving her team into their morphs.
[More to come later as I continue writing and fleshing out what I have.]

Re: Dometor [scenario WIP]
Quick question: why did the Forsakers buy the sphere? If you plan to escape the solar system you do not bring a random sample of potentially hostile tech with you. Presumably there must have been some information there that made them realize its value - or they have been subtly manipulated by something to prepare a good nest for Dometor.

Re: Dometor [scenario WIP]
The artifact, as revealed by Jameson's nanoscopic vision, is a highly advanced bushbot made of smart material. Understanding it would be a boon to anyone trying to build on a large scale, like the Forsakers. They'll need to build an entire infrastructure from scratch at their destination. The Forsakers don't plan to bring the object along with them, however, they want to understand and replicate it. After all, it's obviously of TITAN manufacture.
I don't want the Forsakers to seem stupid, just weird. Perhaps if I had them working through a third party, they'd seem less reckless.

Re: Dometor [scenario WIP]
Mmmm... Unusual behaviour, the one Ms. Jaina presents. Frankly, the WIP seems to look a lot like the adventure Glory, without much coherence. We are also talking about a strange timeline: the Exhumans had time to get physically the sphere from Mars to the Kuiper Belt (that is MONTHS of travel). Also, you don't really know you are being infected by the exurgent virus (AGIs can find they are getting tons of corrupted data, I suppose).
As I see things:
Dometor sent a Beta or Delta fork of itself to Mars to oversee the system. That means that the scavengers found the sphere (a true "seed" of a TITAN with the same directives Dometor had, more a "son" than a fork) inside an old installation. Or that the sphere was planted for them to find... Because, in fact, several spheres have been turning up here and there in Mars.
Then change the Exhumans (Mercurial exhumans? It's like saying air-breathing fish... :S) to Singularity Seekers POSING as people who wanna leave the Solar System using a sub-light ship and either got wind of what the sphere really was or were lucky.
Now change Jaina to an infiltrator the Exhumans/SS sent to the Discord Gate in advance to prepare things for their arrival...
Now you have a several-levels adventure ready:
Level 1: the spheres on Mars. Where are they coming from? What are their purpose? Why Firewall is sending agents to Mars in such numbers? Why Project Ozma is doing the same? Why Oversight is having a fit? XD
Level 2: The already sent spheres... "clean" the mess!
Level 3: The first sphere is in the Kuiper Belt... and they want to smuggle it inside a Pandora Gate. Imagine if they think the best way to do it is to activate the sphere in the Belt, and then colaborate with it to make a new gate/take control of one!
And of course, there is also Jameson's cortical stack, inside a dead morph in the TQZ knowing where they found the sphere. As long as the nanoswarm ONLY killed him...

Re: Dometor [scenario WIP]
Not surprising that it looks like Glory. I've been using that scenario as a sort of template for my own. The lack of coherence comes from the fact that it's a wip, so I'm working on that. The fairly slow-paced timeline is intentional, as this is the first time I've run a scenario, and the first time any of my players have played the game.
Exsurgent infected characters are aware they're being taken over, and do have an opportunity to do something about it. I chose to say that she was only able to run away, instead of being able to suicide or something similar.
This is essentially what it did. It sent a stripped down version of itself to set up shop on Mars. Perhaps there are more, perhaps one of them is what's churning out robots in the TQZ.
I'm not sure I want to do that, because it turns the Forsakers into full antagonists rather than a neutral player. I also want to stay away from the gates for this game.
Heh heh heh...
Edit: First post updated.

Re: Dometor [scenario WIP]
Mmmm... I think the exurgent virus should be more defined.. In fact, you don't need to use an exurgent virus at all: a Basilisk hack to produce a quick and dirty psychosurgery and alter the objectives of the target could be enough.
Anyway, you need to define the objectives of the "seed", and why does Jaina exhibit such a need to recover it (and what is she going to do with i?).
So, the seed wants to go back to Mars? If so, why it took so long to infect only one? How was Jaina infected? How did she hide it from everybody else? Why does the seed wants to go back to Mars? Or does it only wants to get transported to anywhere by whoever grabs it? That would equate the seed to some trees' seeds.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Codonanthe
The seed doesnt need a will of its own to go to Mars, its carriers could simply been compelled to seek out a "larger concentration of people". Carriers then do the decision where to travel following that simple formula.
Codonanthe (ants thinks its seeds are eggs to be transported into anthills).

Re: Dometor [scenario WIP]
Then why? I think you need to define what was the original purpose of the seed, the reason for it to emerge now, and if the current purpose is the original one or it has changed.
Why does it look for more populated areas? Does it wants to enact its own version of the Fall in a smaller scale? I think it would be the first TITAN movement in that regard since the Fall (unless Firewall has been exceedingly more succesful than we can think). Up until now, all data points that the TITANs got what they wanted and left, leaving behind some toys they had no more use for, which are the stuff causing troubles all the time and moving Singularity seekers, Ozma, Oversight and Firewall.
Of course, I have my way of making stuff, and you have yours. I start with questions, you might do it otherwise.

Re: Dometor [scenario WIP]
The seed is totally dormant, and contains no active viruses. It is only dangerous if someone goes poking around its data, which exposes them to the Harmony strain of the exsurgent virus, or if someone activates it, which will awaken the dormant Dometor and the Harmony virus.
Harmony: Dometor designed the Harmony strain of the exsurgent virus during the fall. When physically infected, transhumans are slowly converted into fractal smart material similar to the Dometor seed. Once converted, the minds of these individuals are linked together wirelessly to form a distributed consciousness. Their wills are subsumed, and they follow Dometor's directives. Absent these directives, they follow the base drives of the exsurgent virus, seeking out additional transhumans to infect.
Digital infection: As a digital virus, Harmony will spread through networks and attempt to infect any individuals it can with the mental version of the virus.
Mental virus: In a mental-only infection, Harmony subverts the individual’s will to make them wish to spread the physical virus however they can. In Jaina's case, that means activating the seed.
Reactivated Dometor: Dometor’s last directive was to go dormant and wait for future directives. A reactivated Dometor will, therefore, use any means necessary to return to its resting place on Mars. It will subvert all systems it can, and will release Harmony viruses to assist it. If it can’t return subtly through these methods, it will construct warships to do so unsubtly. Once it has returned to its resting place, it will reattach itself to its communications equipment and go dormant. Harmony infections, however, will remain active.
Changelings: The Harmony nanovirus transforms its victims into a smart material fractal, then links their minds together. This material is fully capable of nanofacturing living organic matter. Individuals wishing to remain unnoticed will cover themselves in a synthetic mask.
