Taking out Sentry Bots
Greetings from Mars! A bit of background first, the team had been tasked with a item retrieval mission and needed to access the target location. It happened to be a hidden research base in the middle of nowhere and as we were walking the last few miles on foot, a member detected 3 cloaked sentry bots. We scanned for transmissions and found none. Additionally, a skill check revealed these bots may be running on automated AI mode. Im wondering what options I have in regard to taking out the Sentry bots if crud hits the fan in the base?

Well, first you put a blue portal on the ceiling above the pit of fire, then... Oh, wait. But more seriously, it would depend a great deal on what equipment you have available. It sounds like the bots might be off the mesh (or in 'listen only') mode. The former would make them effectively unhackable, the latter not so much. The rest depends entirely on your available skills, equipment and imagination. Bring lawyers, guns or money.

no cake for you, dude! maybe some flaming lemons, if I feel like it :P but it's in case of sentries that a hacker is very handy to have around. especially if you're in...(wait for it)...SPAAAA---AAACE! Heeelloo--ooo? are you still theeeeeeeerreeeeee? more seriously now, for the sake of science (we're serious people, not like those lazy asses over Black Mesa), enemy sentries can prove to be very useful if you can spoof them and use them against enemy guards

I am fond of jammer bullets for this. But as Re-laborat said, it all depends on what you have with you. If all you have is a piece of twine and some cheese, then you need to get creative... (Tie the cheese to the end of the twine, throw it so the sentrybot can see it, and then pull the twine to lure the bot behind a rock where you have placed another rock so it can fall on it. Easy)

a Dissambler hive could be nice too! a weaponized version of it, maybe or the classical EMP grenade. an overloaded electrical alternator will do, if it's close enough. or, again, if you're in space (I'm in Spaaaaaaaace!) you could always try to jettison the sentry through an airlock the easiest, though, is to hack the spime and make your invisible to it/them

Re: Taking out Sentry Bots
Thanks for the help! Sorry I wasnt clear in my original post. We're on mars, which makes the handy airlock option not feasible. The team waited a while to check for transmissions but didnt find any. As Re-Laborat highlighted, I guess those things are in listen only mode. I checked out jammer bullets and they have a Interface of 30? That seems rather low. Im not sure what to do with those EMP grenades though. The only effect seems to be reducing radio communications to 1/10th normal range. Thats 2km, even for regular mesh and more then enough to call for any other bots. The bot has an access jack, and we have invisibility cloaks but need the window to see out. The sentry bot has enhanced vision with t-ray emitters and lidar. Does the cloak protect against that?

No, you'll be spotted easily. But I don't see what the problem is. Destroy the bot with a disassembler swarm as suggested earlier, or just shoot it. Homing bullets are nice for this as you can do indirect fire. Or a sniper rifle: shoot beyond the range the bot is capable of. There are SO many ways to deal with a sentry.

Inform the TTO's cometary bombardment division that you've discovered an off-the record hab full of Free Mars activists. Stand back. WAY back. More seriously, you must have something besides invisibility cloaks? Guns? Explosives? Rocks? Sharp sticks? Remember that, all else being equal, the aggressor who knows he has a target will take the first shot while the defender is still going 'Whoa, I'm under attack.' This, plus endless training and boxcarloads of bullets sent downrange is why entry teams work. Acquire rocket launcher. Enjoy. Have your hacker explain to it that it's friendly to you and needs to go subvert its buddies. Train a rusthound to urinate on robots of this type and then shake a cannister of metal-disassembler nanites into its fur. Place a large plate of metal on the front of your marsbuggy. Charge. There are a bajillion crazy things waiting to be abused in the 'gear' section. Use your imagination!

Re: Taking out Sentry Bots
earlier this evenning I saw a nice li'l B-movie with Highlander star Adrian Paul called Eyeborgs. The movie isn't stellar by a long shot, but's it's a really nice take on surveillance and (a bit of) sousveillance. hell, the whole plot could be used for a prequel adventure/flashback of the Fall. The sentries depicted on the movie and the way they're dealt with could provide you ideas for your campaign

This is why I recommend all my client's discontinue the use of Uplifted Mice as sentries. The Series I sentry mice fell for this one all the time and I understand that the new Series IX's are still susceptible to a nice smoked gouda...

Re: Taking out Sentry Bots
Locate some sort of local wildlife (be it smart animals or some wandering robots), and make it go near the sentinels. Wait for them to emit some sort of signal, if they don't, then two options present themselves: 1.- The drones are on autonomous/autistic mode, so they "talk" to each other in a simple way: I'm firing at something (and the other bots can either provide support or keep their positions). 2.- The drones are connected by cable. Uh-oh, I foresee a Ultimate facility in the future! (Few others bother with the inconvenience of using cables instead of wireless. Of those that do, I bet for Ozma, Oversight, and other nasty customers. Or smugglers, but I doubt they would post obvious sentries).
