Play report - First time run through was great
This is inspired by a Twitter post I received. I ran a game of EP last night and it was a great experience. Background: Group - 4 players with mixed RPG experience. All but one were new to Transhumanism as a concept and the EP canon. My first time running the game. I have previously run AD&D. Scenario - I went with Continuity as it is billed as a good introduction to the universe and system. This helped as it limited the range of options open to the players. With my group this was a bonus as Alpha forks, back-ups and farcasting made one player's brain hurt. We got through part of the scenario. There have been no combats, but the overwhelming mystery of what has happened to the characters worked well. As we have a mix of player RPG experience between AD&D/D&D and Cthulhu it did feel like a mystery investigator dungeon crawl of sorts (I hope that is not too insulting!). The characters were pulled from the pre-gens in the EP core book. We had the Info life, a Titanian scavenger, the Swarm criminal, and the uplift Octopus (Billy the Squid as the player referred to him as. Comedian in the making.). What worked - The dice mechanic was very simple and elegant. The application of modifiers to the target number was very simple and felt natural. The Moxie points threw the players. As the criminal hacker kept failing rolls, I did suggest he burnt a few Moxie to help pull it together. A gentle nudge to stop the characters being sucked into space! There are similarities between EP and other percentile roll under systems, this played in its favour and was easy to just 'get on with'. The Eclipse Phase Android dice roller app is INVALUABLE! Three of us have 'Droids. I emailed the players the .apk prior to the game. Only one person rolled physical dice all night. In addition to this, I ran the game exclusively via PDF (even though the dead tree versions of the books were on stand-by next to me). This was unexpected as I have been less than enthusiastic about running games using digital media. What needed support - The players! Firstly I compiled an introductory handout including basic concepts, key terms, character generation guidance and the basic mechanics. This was very useful as I made them read the most important pieces before we played. Secondly, there were some concepts (as noted above) that needed unpacking and illustrating for the players. The girl playing the Infolife had her character 'tweaked'. I sleeved her in a Case morph so that getting her around with the others was made conceptually simpler. Finally, I found it useful to explain a lot of the concepts via pop culture signposts. I sat the Infolife player through a few episodes of GiTS:SAC. When asking about the Case morph it was easiest to explain it as "C-3PO in Empire Strikes back, you're a bit like that mixed with Data from ST:TNG". The unnerving moment when the players questioned their reality (Are we the real deal, or Alpha forks?! Or ...?) was best dealt with by referencing the film 'Moon'. Venusian Aerostats equal Bespin when explaining those away. And strangely, the concept of the Muse was quickly replaced with references to 'Clippy'. We are not always a serious group as you can tell. The players enjoyed it, they suspended disbelief and became wrapped up in their characters fates. I enjoyed running it, as it was easier than I expected. Once this scenario is wrapped up, we're going to gen some fresh Egos, sleeve them and head out to see what else is out there.

Re: Play report - First time run through was great
I'm getting ready to run my first ever eclipse phase game within the next two weeks. I found this thread helpful - i'll take what you said into consideration as I plan my game. A printout/handout of key terms seems like an excellent idea.
