Starting an online game - Players wanted!
Well, as I've not had any luck in reviving my RL EP game, I'm going to give another go to recruiting an online group. I'm in US Central time (UTC-6), and could run a game any time on Monday or Friday, or after 7pm on Wednesday. I'd be looking to run for 4 hours (ish) once a week. If push came to shove, I could also do Saturday or Sunday, but I'd prefer to avoid that, as I'm more likely to be busy on weekends. While I'm willing to run just about anything, I've got a storyline partially planned out set in and around Noctis-Qianjiao, Mars, that would largely be planetary in scope (ie, no plans to have you gallivanting about the solar system or gatecrashing.) By default, characters would not be Firewall, although there's a good chance they'll have the opportunity to join by the end of the first story arc. It would start off with the PCs investigating the possible murder of an old friend and go from there. More details available if that's something that interests you; if not, just let me know what is. Likewise, if you really want to start off as members of Firewall, I can work with that as well.

What timeslot is best for the two of you, and what's the character concept that you're looking at going with?

Re: Starting an online game - Players wanted!
I am VERRY interested. I am on Hawaii time, but I work late afternoons (when most of the mainland is sound asleep in their beds) so nearly any time works for me, just as long as it isn't too early in the morning (a 10:AM game in New York would be a 4am game here.) As for character ideas, I've got a social/psychologist character concept that's been bouncing around my head for a while. I'd be happy to expound upon it in further detail if you are interested in having me for your game.

Re: Starting an online game - Players wanted!
I also work afternoons. Which is good considering I live in Australia so 7pm for you is like 9am for me. Any time from 5pm as long as we finish before 11-midnight. Character concept; Fall evacuee Criminal Ex-cop. Also, how will we be gaming Skype or something text based?
Tyrnis Tyrnis's picture
Re: Starting an online game - Players wanted!
I'm planning a text-based game. If everyone is amenable and doesn't mind downloading a telnet/MU* client, I thought we might log in to the Eclipse Phase MUSH that's under construction and use it to play. There's not a lot there yet, but it has RP rooms and a dice roller, which is more than sufficient for our purposes. Also doesn't have the character limit for messages that a lot of IM and IRC clients do.

Re: Starting an online game - Players wanted!
Victor Soto is something of a folk hero among the dispossessed on Mars and among autonomists in general. He's an uplifts rights activist and a strong supporter of the Barsoomian movement. Victor is involved in smuggling indentures and uplifts (plus the occasional AGI) from the inner system and helps them to set up new lives in the outer system, so needless to say, he's looked upon less than favorably by the Planetary Consortium, and has made a few enemies among some of the nastier ego trafficking criminal organizations as well. Victor is someone that each of you know fairly well -- he's someone you know you can trust, and who trusts you (to what degree is up to you; he can be a mentor, a friend, a rescuer, or just someone you've had a favorable working business relationship with, as appropriate to your character. He's the plot hook that'll bring together a group of non-Firewall personnel to common purpose, ultimately, though you may of course know each other though other means as well, if you'd like. When you're giving me your concept and character info, please include how you know Victor. You're also encouraged to flesh out your ties to Mars in general and to Noctis-Qianjiao in particular in your writeups. Worth noting, since we've got a social scientist and a criminal thusfar: Universities in NQ: MIT, Cambridge, IIT Mumbai, and Universidade de São Paulo On the criminal side: the Moderates operate are specifically mentioned as operating in NQ, and Conduit is based in Qianjiao. While I'm not sure it's specifically mentioned in Sunward, the Triads are also active there. Obviously not an exhaustive list, but it at least should give some ideas for who you might work for or run up against, as the case may be.

Re: Starting an online game - Players wanted!
Late afternoon/early-evening start, Pacific Time, Wednesday would be best but Monday is a possible. I basically can't guarantee my time before 7pm on Monday, but on Wednesday most weeks (and I will have advance warning) I can. Friday is unfortunately not an option for me. I like the idea of using the MUSH. It means we can (1) hang around when things aren't actively happening and discuss stuff IC, (2) possibly involve other players as NPCs if they're interested or even as other occasionally involved PCs. In short, it provides a great deal of flexibility. And having a game running on it will no doubt help them in terms of giving them a bit of a boost as they try to get the place up and running. I'm looking at a Barsoomian old-timer neo-Gorilla Mechanic/Tech with ties to Valley of the Apes. Would most likely know Victor through both Victor's Barsoomian and Uplift Rights activism. Possibly helped him get the connections the ape needed to work off the last of his indenture? I'm sort of considering what happens when you tie the 'old prospector' trope with the idea of nomad marsforming mechanics. Less 'pack mule and shovel', more 'rigger, driller and mech'. Working class silverback with some clean ties and some sleazy ties...Like any 'freed' uplift, caught in the middle, not really a part of the established system but not necessarily trusted by those outside of it, either.

Re: Starting an online game - Players wanted!
Wendsdays are good for me. Now that I'm fleshing out the character I think she's more fall evacuee anarchist rather than fall evacuee criminal. 83 year old veteran cop, goes crooked and gets caught. Reforms in prison. Imprisoned during the fall, escapes physically to Mars. Can't get away from old criminal ties so work as an ego hunter/private investigator on both sides of the law to try and break free from the inner system. Knows Victor through her work as a PI, he's hired her for a couple of jobs and they became friends through that connection.

I have MushClient, and I verry much like the idea. I have mudded and mushed quite a bit in my day. Fun times. Wednesday works, just let it be noted that I have to be out the door by 5:15 PM hawaii time on wednesdays.
Tyrnis Tyrnis's picture
Re: Starting an online game - Players wanted!
So, 5:15pm in Hawaii is 10:15pm Central. So we could do Wednesdays, but we'd be limited to just over three hours of game time before Mjorkk had to leave. The absolute earliest I could start on Wednesdays would be 6:45pm, as I don't get out of class until 6:20 and have to bike back to my car then do a short commute home.

Well, look for me on there tomorrow afternoon/evening and I'll help out. Some simple stuff you can type in include: help and then help @desc will give you an idea as far as describing yourself. Think of it like an oldschool text adventure game except one you can build in, by writing, creating objects, and putting descriptions on them. You can look at things, move around, etc.

Naw man, it's so easy, a Jovian Flat could do it. Google "Mush client." Besides, you can't drop out, we need SOMEBODY who can kick ass and take names, and it's probably not going to be the social scientist XD or the Hardware Tech.

I can get in and as far as I can tell I've made a login but I can't figure out how to enter info into character generator. What command do I enter first? I tried "@Desc " and " @Desc" as well as just trying to type stuff straight in and all it does is taunt me with "Huh?"
Mjorkk Mjorkk's picture
Re: Starting an online game - Players wanted!
It's okay dude, if you have AIM or MSN or something like that, I'm sure the GM or someone else would be happy to walk you through it. Besides, having character descriptions and stats in the mush itself isn't as important as the GM knowing your stats and description. As I understand it, we're mostly using it as a chatroom that happens to be devoted to EP and happens to have a dice-roller (correct me if I'm wrong.) Finishing the MUSH's character builder is really tertiary.

If you look back, the command I told you to try was "help @desc" (without the quote marks) The way it would work in practice is this: "@desc me=Someone left a swarm of smart rats loose. Or possibly not. There are scores of them, moving in odd synchrony here and there, getting into things, peering around, and one central clump of thirteen which appear to be linked via stacking jacks in the tips of their tails. Whoever they belong to has dyed them all shades of the rainbow, and they appear to have little collars which look suspiciously like miniaturized (and probably limited) versions of nanobot wrist-mounted toolsets." Then when someone looks at you, they would see whatever was after the '=' sign. Communication is prefaced by either a " mark (which will automatically format it as "yourname says, "blahblahblahblahblahblah" <--- whatever you put after the quote mark.) and a : mark (which will NOT format except to put your name in front of it, so for me, if I type in ":ponders an easier way to explain this." other players in the room will see "Re-Laborat ponders an easier way to explain this." That's ninety-five percent of what you need to know unless you intend to build stuff, and most people don't build stuff...And those who do build stuff are usually happy to help those who don't. What it brings to the table that IRC does not is the ability to store character and room descriptions, or gaming information, et al., on objects that are right there 'in the channel'. Hope that helps!

Re: Starting an online game - Players wanted!
Alright, so here's kind of what I'm thinking. Grover's in his mid 20s. He's kind of a reluctant Barsoomian freedom fighter, a concept he's starting to warm up to. He specializes in demolitions and explosives of all sorts, using what he knows from his past working for different terraforming hypercorps. All he really knows is Mars, he was born there and, as far as he can tell, he'll probably die there. --A little background-- Grover's a born and bred Martian. He's worked as a laborer for the various terraforming projects almost all his life, just like his parents and sister did. He left them a few years back to try to move on to bigger and better things. That didn't get him very far though. All he ended up doing was the same thing he'd always done, working labor for the corps. He eventually got tired of it all and tried making off with some stolen tech to sell for enough to get him offworld. He was caught by a security patrol who confiscated the tech and started calling him "one of those Barsoomian terrorists." Now he just laughs at the irony. Those "terrorists" are ones that got him out of that interrogation room in one piece. So for the last couple years Grover's been working with, or for, the Barsoomians, he can't really figure out which it is. He figures he owes them something at the very least and will fully admit that he would be in a far worse place if they hadn't shown up when they did. The Barsoomian movement's been slowly growing on Grover since he got involved with them and he starting to think that maybe this is the "bigger and better" thing he was looking for. I'm guessing Victor would have most likely been amoung his rescuers and that's how he knows him. Grover probably would maintain a good amount of contact with him since he feels like he owes Victor his life, or at least his freedom. Edit: Added a little

He's right, all I'm going to be good at is blowing stuff up and I'm pretty sure I'll screw the group over if I'm just lobbing explosive charges all willy-nilly everywhere. ;)

Re: Starting an online game - Players wanted!
Great, can't wait to play. In the mean time here is my concept. Before the Fall Anthony made his living as a soldier of fortune, fighting in the various conflicts that sprung up across Earth during it's tumultuous last days. Though he died during the fall, it didn't keep and soon he found himself back in a new human body in unfamiliar habitat floating through deep space. The men responsible had brought him, and a number of famous and notorious warriors back in order to begin a new society in the far reaches of space, away from the rest of the decadent trans humanists. A spartan collective, tiny and highly regimented, yet the only cost of being resleeved was remaining a citizen for at least 4 years. During those 4 years the warriors of the past were trained, drilled and educated by the collectives leaders. At the end of his 4 years he was given a choice, he could leave and go out into the world or remain here for another 4 years. Anthony settled on the former, and was sent out to Mars with a gun and a void suit and nothing else to his name. They only gave him one condition, that some day they might call upon him again when the time was right On Mars he reestablished contact with people he had never expected to see again, old friends and even a few enemies from his days as a mercenary. The fresh knowledge from his days in the collective combined with the fury morph they had granted him for displaying excellence in his training made his entry into the mercenary business easier the second time around. He made a name for himself, following the money from job to job. He did everything from training barsoomian terrorist cells to running security to protect against those same terrorists. Mars was a hotbed of activity, and someone who carried a gun and knew how to use it was always in demand. He's a warrior poet in a very real sense, he'll expand your mind or blow it out the back of your skull. He met Victor when working for him as a bodyguard, and continued to work as security in his uplift smuggling operations. For motivations I'm thinking, Wealth+ Fame- Vengeance+. I won't get into the reasons for each here. edit: You are not alone scummer, the whole mush thing confused me too at first but I persevered! You can do it!

Yes, that's a telnet address, not a website. You can use a basic telnet client, although a MUSH or MUD client is much easier to use. Two of the more common ones are SimpleMU and MUSHclient. You might be able to find an web-based client as well -- I just tried WunderMU (www.wunderware.com/wundermu), but although the site is up, the java client doesn't seem to work for me.

You can find SimpleMU at http://simplemu.onlineroleplay.com/index.html and MUSHclient is at http://www.gammon.com.au/mushclient/ Those are both Windows clients. If you're running a Mac, you may wish to try Atlantis or Trebuchet from http://www.macorchard.com/mud/ Once you have installed them, look in their FAQ or instructions for 'how to connect', and enter the address you were trying before (be sure to include the port 9889) and we'll meet and greet you there and help you get going.

Re: Starting an online game - Players wanted!
Shit guys, I didn't think we'd have a session as early as the 28th. I hope there is still time for me to slither in. I was one of the first three to respond with interest *crosses fingers with hope* If there's Still Room, I present to you: Brother Crow The Ego currently known as Brother Crow, began it's life as a naturally born flat named Andres Morrigan aboard the "Rove Ascendant": one of the most xenophobic and security oriented habitats in the Jovian Republic. He was born to zero, but by the age of 17 he had managed to land himself a position as an "Inquisitor." Due to the insidious nature of the titan and frankenfreak menace, traditional investigation methods could often prove ineffectual. As such, he and the other Inquisitors were allowed access to restricted information, and trained in advanced psychology, body language interpretation, and profiling techniques. It was the official stance of the Habitat's leaders that "it is impossible to lie to an inquisitor." He liked his life, and his own rags to riches story was proof (in his mind) that hard work and ability are rewarded with social mobility by the Jovians. Little did he know, but a Mercurial criminal organization: The Corvids (Ironically, they were mostly AGI's who's founders had been fans of "The Crow") had been looking over Andres since he was a young. They had been paying off the correct officials and sabotaging the correct rivals to allow for Andres' ascent up the social ladder. The Rove Ascendant occupied an important strategic point in Jupiter's Orbit. For roughly six hours every three months, they would be the only habitat capable of detecting a ship using a certain carefully calculated gravity slingshot trajectory. If the Corvids could infiltrate the Rove ascendant, and hack their external sensors during that window, they would be able to undercut the Jovians for the use Jupiter's gravity on the black market. They had believed that a child who had experienced the hardships of being a zero would be more willing to help them when they revealed the hand they had played in his success. They were wrong.... sort of. On the one hand, he revealed their plan to the authorities and killed many of their operatives. On the other hand, his own morph was eventually disabled in the ensuing fight, giving the surviving Corvids ample time to create a nearly perfect copy of his ego and escape. In their haste, they did made a few mistakes copping his muscle memory, functionally crippling the fork's ability to control most morphs. (Strangely enough, this neural damage to the Ego's muscle memory made it ideally suited for physically manipulating Slytheroid Morphs) After "years" of accelerated time simulspace captivity, he eventually "went Stockholm" and became a card carrying member of The Corvids. He now went by the monkier "Brother Crow" and fought for Uplift and AGI rights. A number of times, he assisted Victor Soto smuggle AGI's and Uplifts on behalf of the Corvids, but for the most part, he used his people reading skills to bankroll many of their endeavors from behind a poker table. This left a fair amount of physical distance between him and his crew when agents of the Rove Ascendant killed many of Corvid's leaders, and corrupted all of their backups. Without a head, the Corvids disbanded, but not before releasing hacked security footage of the Jovian's attacks, in one dying media attack. Brother Crow immediately recognized one of the attackers from his body language. It was his own, or more specifically it was Andres Morrigan's. Knowing what the old him would have done to an illegal alpha fork who had "gone native," he immediately distanced himself from the remaining Corvids. He went to Victor for help getting smuggled into the Martian wastes, where he still fights the good fight, albeit through subtler means. He publishes social scientific articles laced with pro-mercurial memes and offers his services as a transhuman lie detector to mercurial-friendly groups. However, just in case, he's got a minimissle with Andres' name written on it... literally.

Re: Starting an online game - Players wanted!
I made a few changes to my background, I wasn't sure if my characters background gave him enough of a fit in Mars. Hopefully this will be better the second time around. I feel like this will also work better with his qualities and background. Anthony grew up fast on Earth, even in it’s last days it was still full of violent and dangerous locals and Mr. and Mrs. Moss just happened to squeeze Anthony out smack dab in the middle of one such place. The kind of place where ice cream trucks run drive by’s and people have a tendency to turn up six different places. Of course he doesn’t remember much of those days, all a blur really. A bright red and snow white blur. The only place those memories lie are in his muscles, the memory of how to fight, when to run and the subtle nuances of tearing a cortical stack out with your bare hands. The violence of his past is hard wired into his blood, and blood doesn’t have much room for things like a mothers face or a day at the beach. The long history of violence reached it's apex during the Fall though. When it came it hit Anthony found himself at the front lines. A choir of destruction with TITANs playing the part of Maestro. He died on the battlefield as the world crumbled around him. However, someone didn’t want that condition to keep. It was around 2 years after the fall he woke up, strapped to cold metal table in a new body. He didn’t remember much, how he ended up here was a mystery. His past was muddled, dark, missing. He was a worker now, and had no reason to think this was unusual. Despite everything seeming to be wrong with the situation he didn’t raise any protest as he was set to work in a secret Martian mining facility. The hyper corp running the business made a quick buck stealing refugee info-life’s and editing their memories to make slaves. Highly illegal, but what the buyers didn’t know wouldn’t hurt them. How his mind ended up in the fist of some hyper corp exec is something Anthony still doesn't understand today, but he has a theory. Someone sold him out, but the bastards stole so many memories they left him without a snowballs chance in hell at solving the mystery. Of course, that concern wouldn't raise its ugly head till later. For now, he knew nothing but the daily routine of striking the earth. It was a rough life if the hostile conditions didn’t kill you, the sadistic supervisors would be happy to help you along. Of course, labor wasn’t the only thing the company cut corners on. Their psycho-surgeon wasn’t exactly top of his class either, he had a tendency to let things... slip. The job he did on Anthony would have been grounds for dismissal if they bothered to double check anything. His mind was stubborn, certain things just would not go no matter how hard the surgeon tried to shake them loose. So he stopped trying, simple as that, did what he could and moved on to the next one. Meanwhile, enough of Anthony remained to become a problem. His jail break plot only came to fruition after one year of hard labor. One whole year spent searching out his memories, putting the pieces of his identity puzzle together. During that year he built himself back up from so much dust in the wind until he was Anthony Moss again, at least in soul if not in body. The same arms that broke rocks started breaking necks and skulls. Anthony was the first to strike but others followed. The rabble roused itself and soon the entire mine was engulfed in chaos. For the first time in a year the dreary mine felt a little bit like home. Anthony fought tooth and nail through the riot, forcing his way to the surface and escaping during the confusion into the Martian desert with nothing more than a stolen air tank and a rifle. Luck found him at last, a passing buggy driver giving him a ride into Valles-New Shanghai, a city were a man with a gun and nothing to loose was in high demand. A new start, but Anthony just went back to the same old things he’d been doing all his life. He had a good reputation for killing someone and making sure they stayed dead. He made his money his own way, and did his job with a head for professionalism and discretion. That, and there was no job he would not accept. He could be training Barsoomian Terrorist cells one day and fighting them the next. The money lead and he followed, gun in his hand and grit in his teeth. It lead him all over mars and his criminal contacts meant that he would know someone in any given city. His life turned into something of a vicious cycle, almost all of his wealth being funneled back into making him a more deadly killer. All the while people claiming to have known him before the fall, some old friends and even old enemies, started restoring contact with him. One among those ghosts of his past introduced him to the man called Victor. They had little in common, and Anthony didn’t care much for the ideology but the money was good and Victor was a man in very much in need of security. Victor became a consistent employer, but Anthony chose to cut ties after his personal demons started to threaten Victors operation.

Is there still room?

Re: Starting an online game - Players wanted!
So after doing some tweaking and detailing his background more, I think I'm going to age Grover a couple years and make him more involved in the Movement, specifically from a little more extremist angle. Some things will happen to him over those couple years that define who he is more. He'll still love his demolitions(probably even more so now) and he'll probably take up a little more of saboteur description to go with it. I'll get the edited background posted either tonight or tomorrow. If any of you have any suggestions or tips let me know XD

Re: Starting an online game - Players wanted!
So, I do have one question: where do we put our character sheets? Do we PM them to you? or are we going to try and somehow use the mud to track character abilities?

Minor code update - there's an object in the OOC Lounge on the MUSH noting this information as well, and I'll add it to global help files soon. +roll [target] - This provides a public dice roll (announced to the room) noting your roll result and its margin of success/failure (and if it's a critical, it notes that too). For example: +roll 65 +roll/gm [target] - Like the first command, only it's private - only you will see the result & the MoS/F and any crit notifier. For example: +roll/gm 65 +roll/dmg [#]d10[+ or - or / or x][#] - While it looks tricky, it's relatively simple, and meant for damage purposes. For example: +roll/dmg 3d10+2 will publicly note what your roll was (the 3d10+2 amount, in this case) along with the calculated result - the total as well as each of the individual d10s. If you're thinking about using the MUSH, come try 'em out!

Re: Starting an online game - Players wanted!
...And the background for the ook-ook. ========================== Clint C2972 is old, at least as far as Somatek neo-gorillas go. His serial number and overall aged appearance link him to the third batch of 'deployable, marketable' neo-gorillas...As opposed to the experimentals... But there are still distinct and noticeable differences between Clint and his successors. Clint was decanted on Earth, back in the glory days before the Fall. He remembers seeing open blue skies before they shipped him up into the black, packed him off to Mars to grind out his life turning that red rock green. At thirty-four years, he's already showing advanced signs of premature ageing. A neo-gorilla half his age will likely live twice as long before gaining the deeply wrinkled and silvered look of the earlier batch Clint came from. Clint spends a great deal of his time working out to maintain a physique appropriate to his aggressive, alpha-male nature, and is a non-competitive but fairly capable freerunner. Admittedly, he's cheated a bit. Cloned and implanted muscle tissue helps give the old ape the bulky figure he remembers from his glory days, and as an experimental adaptation of the process to an uplift, it didn't cost him as much as it might have otherwise. Still, genetics will tell. Clint has developed a rather noticeable beer gut despite the corded muscle in his limbs, and certainly his fixation on cheap cigars hasn't done much to aid his endurance despite nanitic assistance in his lungs. That cough? That's nothing. It'll go away. Someday. The bifocals? Yeah, replacement eyes are cheap. If your eyes are a nice, common, human model. But even if he found a good match, Clint fears losing the tweaks he was given when he proved himself to be a capable mechanic. If you're going to try and maintain a reputation as a good techie, it doesn't hurt to be able to see where electrical currents twist, break, or jump, and being able to keep a close watch on where you're laying a bead in a hurry makes for better welding. Besides. That look of old, leathery, silver-backed age and thick beveled glasses has a kind of authority, doesn't it? Especially for folks brought up seeing old documentation of pre-Fall scientists. Not that Clint's a scientist, of course. No, Clint's a hard-working, rough-handed engineer. The kind of fellow who helps keep those drills running and puts that little extra effort in to damp that vibration or jack down those grips to fit the height and hands of their owner, trying to make life a little bit easier on the others like him who've sweated away their receipts in the red dust. Old Mars-hands will remember him and others like him (most of whom are dead or dying now...genetics will tell) who were sold en masse to MDOT, doing the heavy, grueling work of keeping the big road-laying machines running as they ground their way across red desert. They built and rebuilt the huge machines on the move, racing against the fine, abrasive red dust that got into everything and sanded fittings down almost as fast as they could be replaced. Back in the days before humans learned it was cheaper to build machines that Mars wouldn't chew up and spit out in hours. Still others may tell of having met Clint in Mars orbit, where he and others like him repaired systems and worked with drill and charge to crack and sculpt the big icy asteroids into projectiles which met TTO spec, dug in and anchored the massive rockets that would send them spiraling down the well into the red globe below. A few will talk about Clint during the bad years...Which weren't so long ago...When a big gorilla with solid muscular bulk could earn some coin to buy down his indenture piece by piece, fighting with shock clubs or knives in the pits of Pembroke Gardens; building the dream one night at a time, trying to take the other guy down without killing him or maiming him too bad, because you never knew when it might be you on the sand, looking up with nothing between you and death but the crowd and the willingness of the other guy to feed their bloodlust. Medical bills for 'negligent injury' cut into an indenture something fierce, but the winnings on a good night could make up for it. Clint's past that now, but those who remember can still pick out the scars in his wrinkled face, remember the flash of fang and knife and the heavy pressure of the expectant crowd as prehensile feet hit the bloody, muddy red sand. Some who know him very well will talk about his buy-out party three years ago: the big, ugly lug crying as he tore up the printout of his paid-off indenture, while the few dozen who knew him cheered and the cheap beer flowed. Mostly apes, that night at the Broken Bit, because the Broken Bit was an indenture bar where primate riggers and miners drank away futures they'd already spent. A buy-out was big news in that crowd, and none of the crusty apes even bothered the human, Victor, who Clint dragged in with him for his celebration. Paid off the last payment, Clint had said, after Clint'd broken one leg falling off a drill-scaffold. Not because Clint couldn't have made it on his own a few months later, once it was healed. Clint was that kind of guy. But so Clint could get out on time, and be damned to the leg and the luck and the company doctors. But most folks...Most folks nowadays know Clint from the souks of Noctis. His battered, ancient rust-orange buggy-van with its neon-green wildscrawl signs ('Locksmith/Tinker: things fixed, ways opened') is usually located at one market or another during the week (those who know him well can usually predict where and when). Weekends he heads out into the red to do some private scavenging or on contract to fix one thing or another, doing a tour of outlying ecostations that are either independent or can't get their own corporate tech support to come in and fix their systems for a damn. Fridays he invariably turns up at the big Valley of the Apes movie night down southwest in Red Jakarta. Clint's a social animal, he is. Of course, there are always those who like to drag down the name of a fellow who's made his own way out of the creche. If he hangs out occasionally with Free Mars types, runaway uplifts, anarchists, smugglers and crooks, well who doesn't? And what scavenger and tinker ever could give a good accounting of where he found every bit and part he bought or sold? Clint buys and sells parts, working and not-so-working items of all kinds, from refurbished tools to reworked marsbuggy engines. He's even been known to help jury-rig repairs for broke clankers, gratis. After all, you never know when you'll be the one hoping for good karma to come around. Sure, the constant flow of merchandise is an easy place to submerge and lose certain kinds of stolen goods, and a salvage prospector and travelling repair service is an easy cover for the occasional smuggling job, but that's not what Clint is about, see? When it comes down to it, Clint may seem surly to outsiders, but he's the sort of ape who looks after his friends. You don't get anywhere in this life without them.
