I tried to search the forum for this, but looking for terms like "mesh", "ego", and "insert" tends to bring up too many hits to filter easily.
The Question:
Is it explicitly stated or strongly implied anywhere that Mesh Inserts may or may not operate full egos as infomorphs? Can I put an Alpha fork of my uplifted Octopus in his mesh inserts or an Ecto?
I've seen two or three places in the core book where egos and infomorphs are mentioned as being run in ghost rider modules. I've also noted that muses are talked about as running in mesh inserts, ectos, ghost rider modules, and cyber brains. What I don't recall seeing is anything saying an ego can run in mesh inserts or ectos. Did I miss it? Is it implied somewhere?
I know the section on basic AIs states that they may run in mesh inserts, but they are not the same as full person egos-as-infomorphs or AGIs. The rules around page 264/265 spells out they are not the same.
I also know that the gear descriptions for ectos and mesh inserts don't talk about muses or infomorphs, although other sections (the AI areas) do say they can handle the basic AIs such as muses.
In the game I play in, we have (mostly through my opinions as I frequently run the game) limited mesh inserts & ectos to running AIs. Alpha and Beta forks have required cyberbrains or at least ghost rider modules. Because the game notes that Delta Forks are essentially AIs with personalities layered over them, we have been considering them the equivalent of AIs and allowing them to run in mesh inserts and accept skillware like other AIs. Is this in error?

Re: Egos in mesh inserts and/or ectos?
Yes, you can run egos on ectos.
Which means you can run them on Mesh Inserts.
Won't be any fancy software or hardware augs though; you'd probably need a better system for that.

Not to be a jerk, but where is that said, shown, or implied?
All the examples I've been able to spot have Muses and similar AIs running Ectos, Mesh Inserts, and similar, but Cyberbrains and Ghost Rider modules were used in the examples where "infomorphs" or Forks are used.

Re: Egos in mesh inserts and/or ectos?
Quite a few places. However, if you want an example.
PERSONAL COMPUTERS Personal computers account for a wide range of com-puter types, but essentially include anything that has the capabilities evolved from generations of personal computers to meet an everyday user's needs. Most personal computers are portable and tailored for use by multiple users at a time. Personal computers may run one AI or infomorph at a time. They may not run simulspace programs. Common personal computers include: mesh inserts, ectos, and vehicles.

One cannot reasonably be considered a jerk for requesting sources, unless it is done so in a very rude manner.
So you are fine in this case.
