Pets?
Now I'm probably just overlooking it either in the books or here on the forums, but is there anything about pets? Either xeno critters or just species that survived the fall that we took with us? The main thing I'm wondering is if someone's pet would have a cortical stack or some sort of variation of it. I would think that with how common egocasting is they would have it work with their animals too, but at the same time it seems like some may think it'd be a waste of resources to produce animal morphs for your pets. Anyway, thanks in advance!

Re: Pets?
There is a pets section in the Gear section (introducing both the space roach and the nervous fur coat). I also think there are mentions in Gatecrashing of some alien pets, and in Sunward there are the smart baboons. Panopticon has smart animals. I can see how some people might want to give a loved pet a cortical stack, although most people would likely roll their eyes at such excesses.

Awesome, thanks!

That was kind of my thought too. I think it would only really be somewhat justified if the pet was partially uplifted and not just a normal mundane animal. It was just sort of a thought that came to me thismorning, haha.

Re: Pets?
The idea of people cortical-stacking their pets raises some fun ethical questions. Before I get to those, though, I can tell you that anyone who has owned and cared for a pet would find it horrible to perpetually lose them. Now, the fun part is the discussion of cortical-stacking animals and the question of an ethical obligation. Every animal is still a living being, and transhumanity has the power to grant them immortality as surely as anything else. If letting a human die is a terrible sin, surely so is letting an animal die. However, at the same time, does transhumanity have an ethical obligation to save the brain-state of every sparrow? Every insect? Where do we draw the line on those we save and those we condemn to oblivion? This is surely something that someone, somewhere, is debating in the solar system (likely among the Reclaimers, at the very least). This also raises the point of digital pets, both of the AI variety and the digitized consciousness of actual animals. What could be more loving to digitize your animal's consciousness when it dies and let it run in an ecto? When your smart-dog dies, you put its mind in a VR of a forest full of all the squirrels it can chase and an unlimited supply of tastey treats. Let your animal have its little slice of Heaven for as long as you choose, or at least just keep their back-up in case you choose to do so in future.

Re: Pets?
Going with what Axel said, I think a virtual, AR-only pet would be pretty common. No resources used up in terms of morphs or food, and it could interact with whatever AR reality skin you use (if you see your slum as a rainforest, you could have a tropical bird, or if you see a desert you could have a lizard pet).
