Going to GenCon?
So, who is going to Gen Con this year? Is anyone scheduled to play in an EP game?

Me! And the wife and I both have tickets for "Loved and Lost."

I've got tickets for Joue Avec Moi, but I'm going to sit in for a session or two of Loved and Lost to see how it plays through.

I am. I haven't been told whether I get to play with you guys yet, though. Last year I spent the whole show in the booth. :(

I'm going, but unfortunately all the EP games are full up. I'm hoping that a slot opens up at the last minute, otherwise I might just sit in on a session or two to observe.

Never hurts to try. At Origins, my friend got into the game of Unknown Armies I was in when someone didn't show up. But when she tried to do the same thing for Dread, there were already 5 people waiting for someone to cancel who had sat around waiting for an *hour* (and everyone showed, so there was no room for add-ons). In general, I've seen more flakiness at GenCon when compared to Origins, especially as you move into the later days, so my guess is you might have more luck getting into the Fri or Sat sessions when compared to the Thursday sessions? The harder-partying atmosphere of GC seems to take it's toll on people.

Oh dear. I volunteered to GM one of those sessions on Saturday. I better make sure I get my sleep.

I'll be heading there (from Australia), but managed to miss out on signing up for games. I'll either have to hang about looking hopeful, or else get more organised more quickly next year.

Sorry I haven't posted in a while, but life and a house fire tends to do that, but I'm essentially going to be a booth babe for the Infinity miniatures game and The Warstore the two days I'm there. So any gaming I would be able to get into would be after 7 Friday evening. So anybody planning an impromptu game session, please let me know.

All the best freaks are here...Stop staring at me!

I'll be running the Saturday 8 AM session of "Joue" so hopefully I'll see some of you there.

Than is a fucking trooper. :) It looks like I might be GMing the Friday 2-6 game and the Thursday 8-midnight. Who's gonna be at my table?

I'm sure that we'll all be running on caffeine and enthusiasm at that point, so I should be in a good headspace to roleplay the hyperelite ingenues. I'm sure to be full of bad ideas that sound good at the time.

That would be me and xPeregrine :) Although I'm considering dropping out since I'll be running it on Friday. (If I do, don't take it personally!)

Excellent. I'll be at your table. What form do you want your bribe in?

Re: Going to GenCon?
Well, I can always be bribed with food, though effusive praise on the forums and to the other writers for the media & surveillance section of Panopticon would also be appreciated. I will bravely soldier on with Joue, with the important caveat that my version may be different than other GMs'. Laissez les doubles rouler.

Re: Going to GenCon?
Post-GenCon comment - thanks to the fill-in GMs who ran the "Joue Avec Moi" slot on Friday at 8pm, it was good fun, despite having 9 people at the table and having a last-minute adventure substitution. Additionally, the "Transparency" slot on Saturday at noon was excellent, (I think Marc was the GM's name, but everything from that week is fuzzy at this point) - that 4 hours was a pile of fun, and it completely clinched the decision to buy the game and inflict it upon my home gaming group.

Wait, weren't you wearing pants? Seems like truth in advertising should come into play here >( But more seriously, I'm glad you enjoyed. Don't post it on a public forum or anything, but I think yours was the most enjoyable game I ran. You guys really rocked it! (And I totally hope you aren't upset that like half of your party died horribly. That was completely almost not intentional.)

Re: Going to GenCon?
I had a blast running Joue on Saturday and had some great folks at the table. Although only 5 strong they managed to avoid death more often than not (but really, two fractals and three bonepickers will do that to anyone...) and have a good time. I sincerely hope I'll have a chance to run with you guys again. Also, I would like to suggest that the Socialite Escort's name officially be Pat Laz0r from here on out.

I'm glad -someone's- table of Transparency went well, because my run of it was an utter fail. All of my tables of Xenovore had a blast, but something just didn't click with Transparency.

Oh, and Than, get your ass out of bed and come get your miniatures, you great nance. Your wizard had to be devious and calculating without you in last night's Pathfinder game. :)

This might seem like an odd question but... Did Jinx the parrot uplift rifleman make it into Xeno? If so, how did he/she do? I am rather protective of my sniping parrot :3 Death from above!

Re: Going to GenCon?
Yes, Jinx was on the team. I'm sorry... I thought I'd messaged everyone who submitted ideas back! The fan-suggested PCs in the con version of Xenovore were... - Jic-al Hayude, xenoarcheology reality show host - Travers, 'xenolinguist' - Jinx, neo-parrot recon sniper - Shrike ('the Butcher of Paris'), security specialist - Kiyomi, indentured synth digger ...and my addition, Voyageur, explorer/xenoempath. Anyhoo, several people out of the groups I ran the scenario for had a really good time with Jinx.

Don't worry you did. But that was 7 months ago, and things change :)

Re: Going to GenCon?
I ran one of Xenovore. Around mid-mission, Jinx was resting in the healing pod in the (until an hour previous quarantined) lab when the base was attacked. He left the pod fully healed, totally whiffed on a Fray roll, and basically fell into a bucket of 'the stuff the other guy was messing with when he turned bonkers', and consequently turned bonkers. He did an excellent job at turning the robot to his side and thusly indirectly killed another PC. I sat in on one of Jack's games as well, where Jinx was left behind to die whens someone stole the last crasher truck to safety. Out of two missions, I have as of yet to see Jinx escape successfully. But he seems to be a popular character!

Those adventures sound really interesting! Will they be posted so others can play them? My group needs more adventures, we've chewed through most of what we can think of already.

There are many excellent adventure seeds in The Eye and also here. Additionally, there are some rather fun bits currently in the forums, including at least one thread which takes various pieces of random SF art and tries to make an EP 'adventure hook' to explain what is going on with it.

Re: Going to GenCon?
I did ask Jack about Xenovore, since it seems to be a mostly completed adventure. The impression I got (and don't take this as gospel) is he is leaning heavily towards 'maybe'. Like Ego Hunter, it's a mission for pregen characters only, which limits its appeal to most players (but makes it perfect for running at cons). There are some other adventures which ran during the con. If last year is anything to go by, they'll choose a few and push those out. (However, anyone is welcome to come hang out with me in DC and I'll run them for you :P )

To practice for a game we're running at Labyrinth Games, we're going to be running a practice session in about four hours. Fooooour hooouuurrrrrrsss... I also have like a dozen beers that need to be drunk. Two empty seats ... I just wish someone could come play with us!

Xenovore will get released, one way or another. If PH buys it, awesome. If not, I promised to release it as a CC title, and I will. Also, it'll run fine without most of the pre-gens, as interesting as they are. The only one you absolutely need is the crazy reality show host, and he can always be an NPC. It's a bit skewed toward non-Firewall characters, but that again can be overcome with a little adjustment.

I played "Intellectual Property" as a substitute for "Joue Avec Moi" on the Friday 8pm slot. It went very well considering there 9 players at the table all who were new to EP, a substitute adventure, ran by a substitute GM. I had plenty of fun, and it seemed like the rest of the table felt the same. Given the kind of pressure the GM was under, it could have been better, but it was a solid way to spend 4 valuable GenCon hours.

Re: Going to GenCon?
I played in the saturday 8pm game as well. I enjoyed myself. I think we were a surprisingly un-fractious group of characters for a group that large, sure there was a bit of confusion sometimes, though we managed to sort it, but it was a lot of fun. I'm not sure if this was the GM or the adventure, but I really appreciated that each of the players got a chance to be cool at least a couple of times - I think everyone got a chance to really help out the group with the specialty (there were two people who were playing the same character even, and I know that there were two occasions when one failed a roll, and the other succeded, then vice-versa, which was cool). The only niggle I had was not related to the module but the character sheets - some had the old way of determining toughness? wounds? while some had the new (presumably errata'd, since somebody had a new printing of the book there which we ended up recalculating), which threw us until we refigured that. Little touches of the bizarre were also quite good. Descriptive text managed to give a good view fo the ruined elegance of the location. I liked the "your map reveals that this used to be a small room used to store coats and top hats. Now there are several holes in the wall, inexpertly smashed with some kind of heavy weapon or equipment and they use it to farm beetles." feel to it The (play) moment that sticks in my brain was probably everybody taking cover behind the spider (crab?) bot. For some reason it was really amusing at the time.
