Hi!
I know, all this armor stuff has been discussed a few times, but I couldn't find an answer for the following question:
If you wear an armor on your bioweave armored skin, do you get the penalty of -20 (like explained on p. 194)? The book says only, the armor value does stack, but nothing about penalties.
If no (as I believe): A combination of
Bioweave Armor (Heavy): 3/4
Second Skin: 1/3
Smart Skin: 3/2
Body Armor (Heavy): 13/13
would get you a combined armor value of 20/22 without any other penalties than for your sense of touch of course. At this point, you could add another layer of armor clothing (3/4) to get 23/26, and go along with a -20 on all of your actions.
If the answer to the above question is yes, you'd have a -20 penalty already with the 20/22 combination, and could get 23/26 with -40.
So, which calculation is right?
This is not about powergaming or game balance or whatever, I just want to know, if I understand the rules correctly.

Re: Short question: Bioweave armor
An easy guide; If it says it is cumulative, it is not itself a layer. If it says it is not cumulative, it is its own layer. A couple of examples;
Bioweave(Heavy) + Armor Vest would give you an armor rating of (3/4+6/6) 9/10, no penalty.
Bioweave(Heavy) + Armor Vest + Body Armor(Light) would give you an armor rating of (3/4+6/6+10/10) 19/20, with a -20 penalty.
Carapace Armor + Armor Vest would give an armor rating of (11/11+6/6) 17/17, with a -20 penalty.
So in your example, you would end up with an armor value of 20/22 with no penalties. If you added the armor clothing it would go up to 23/26 with a -20 penalty. You don't really need to worry about armor on biomorphs, just be sensible about it and you are fine. Its those nasty synthmorphs you have to lookout for, but they got nerfed in the 3rd printing errata, so they aren't so bad any more.
Simples!

Re: Short question: Bioweave armor
Thanks!
So, it's just as I thought... just wanted to be sure. And yes, I found the tiny, but noticeable difference about synthmorph armor between the editions :)
