Eclipse Phase Third Printing Update and El Destino Verde!
It's a busy day at Posthuman headquarters as we have two releases—and one of them is the latest version of the Eclipse Phase core rulebook, to coincide with the upcoming third printing. There are some slight rules tweaks, some visual touchups, new pieces of art, and the PDF itself is improved with many hyperlinks and layers, so you can create your own print-friendly version on the fly. Still for the delicious price of only $15: Eclipse Phase at DriveThruRPG.com! The third printing of Eclipse Phase is at the printers, and we will announce a street date for it when the books are in our warehouse and on their way to game retailers. If you are a retailer, we'll be providing you with some cool news about the reprint very soon! Eclipse Phase We're also pleased to release the introductory fiction from the upcoming sourcebook Panopticon, El Destino Verde, by Jack Graham! It's the first installment in an ongoing story. El Destino Verde Enjoy the updated and new releases!

Grabbed both the updated core and the fiction as soon as I saw 'em. *Jake Carter*, on MARS? Hrm, smell a in-joke here. One error I did note: The Third Print Core displays an error on pages 234-235. That's the MESH chapter splash pages. I'm running on Adobe Acrobat 9, and all I get are pure-black screens, along with the following: "An error exists on this page. Acrobat may not display the page correctly." Any thoughts?

I've had that reported before. I'll do some checking with Acrobat 9 over the next couple days. The file works just fine in Acrobat X, so I suggest updating. :)

I've noticed on my ipad that the illustration of El Destino Verde don't show. Aside from that, it's a great story! can't wait for part 2! I can't picture it like an animated comic book (like Black Panther or Black Widow from Marvel) with voices performed by: -Thomas Jane as Jake (he did a great Jonah Hex in the DC Showcase) -Ming Na as Kim (Ellen Yin in The Batman is abit akin to our Ranger in EDV) -Steve Blum as Bobdog (short of Frank Welker I don't know who else could play him) -Georges Takei as 'Oyabun' (picked him for the age and the rendition of Hero's dad in Heroes) -Grey Delisle as the Barmaid (because that pleasure pod morph kinda reminded of Ventress)

sweet! thanks! that story really taught me a lot of details I didn't know or missed. Like the Babooncops using shock batons, for instance. How smart are they?

6 New pieces of art? All very well done. Smart animals. I've been running them like loyal dogs who have a firm grasp on their trainers native tongue. Imagine what you could convince your dog to do if he understood everything you said to him. So grasping complex concepts and requests. Primates I think would be even a step beyond the loyal dog theory being able to grasp some concepts even more clearly due to physiological familiarity.

Can they communicate back? i mean, if a ranger has his baboon search for something and it finds it, how does it let its handler know of what he found?

How does a pet get your attention now? How does a drug or rescue dog alert it's handler? I imagine these cues wouldn't change if anything they'd be more refined.

It seems to me that about half of the art prior to page 100 is new (and gorgeous!) and around 10 scattered through the later pages. They also actually removed some art (including the lady in the GM's section who is removing the radioactive doohicky from the whatsit - a shame, that was an awesome piece, if difficult to describe). My count may be a little off due to the excitement of getting a 'new' product for 'free'. They really put a lot of work into this. Pretty crazy considering most of us already paid for it AND they're giving it away for free.

Smoke & Gloria are a bit more heavily augmented than most police baboons. In particular, they're equipped to be on Sage's tactical network (which should answer a few of the questions about how she knows what's going on around them). Smoke's nicotine habit is drawn from a friend's description of the baboons in Johannesburg, South Africa. On several occasions while visiting there, he flicked away a still-burning Marlboro, only to see it snatched up and eagerly smoked by nearby a baboon. Monkey see, monkey smoke. Jake, in case people missed it, is also Korean. As for food from Spain, I hear Manchego mails well. And we only get it [em]viejo[/em] on this side of the pond. Just sayin'... :)

No, this is not possible. The first two printings of Eclipse Phase are not defective in any way (though they're not perfect, of course, few if any books are...), and the errata document brings your book up to full rules compatibility with the third printing.

Indie Press Revolution has no stock of previous printings, so they'll only get new stock. The new printing has a new ISBN, so chain retailers will treat it as an entirely new book. And, for the most part, hobby game retailers are low on stock of the previous printings anyway, so those that re-order will all be getting the new printing. It's very easy to tell the new physical printing from the old one -- double bookmarks, thicker paper stock, Posthuman logo. Don't worry. :)

Just out of interest, I know that IPR has the third edition on pre-order, but due them not being overly revolutionary with their uk shipping prices and lack of printers here I was wondering if there's any plans to release EP through Drivethrurpg, which do have a UK printers and therefore could reach a bigger audience quicker?

Yeah they've been starting Print on Demand this past year and I've been steadily picking up previously out of print Vampire the Masquerade supplements. It depends on the publisher to whether they are available of course. With White Wolf's Masquerade games most of them had to be redone digitally in order to make them POD quality (which worked just fine I might add), others are newer and can easily be done. I actually asked a small independent rpg publisher if they would consider putting their game, Ninja Burger the RPG (yes really) on POD and they didn't think would be worthwhile, a week later they're telling me that it should be soon be available for POD in a week or so. Drivethrurpg also have UK printers as well as US printers which means shipping to the UK (and probably Europe as a whole) works out a darn sight cheaper than ordering over the ocean from most places - esp. IPR. So, yeah, it would be great to have Eclipse Phase Print on Demand through them. As much as I'm all for supporting my friendly local gaming shop the only one near me (the others are MILES away) WONT stock Eclipse Phase or Savage Worlds products because they don't think they'll sell (they make most of their money from Magic: the Gathering cards) and will only get them in special order at 20%+ rrp - so I might as well order online. Hope that made sense. I think it might have become a bit ranty. But yeah, POD for rpg's does seem like a great way for the industry as a whole and Posthuman Studios have so far been at the forefront of innovation and it would surprise me if they didn't look into this avenue further.

It's a shame that your store won't stock the products. Couldn't you ask them to order one copy for you? They'd have a definate sale. If not, you could try contacting my store, they definately get eclipse phase porducts an they're in the uk. If you want I can send you the store details.

Re: Eclipse Phase Third Printing Update and El Destino Verde!
I know my writing style is a bit ranty (I blame the 3 year old nipping at my ankles) but I did mention they did actually say they'll get it in as a special order - they just wont stock EP or Savage Worlds Rpg's in general which means other people who may not know about the games wont see them when browsing. If that's the case (and they're a bit pissy about it to be honest) then I've no real incentive to support my Unfriendly local gaming store if the product price is going to be marked up 20% or more than it would be directly from the publisher/print on demand/internet stores. I have a feeling that POD costs the publisher a lot less in the long run - but that's my theory and I back it up with a stunning amount of speculation. If it is the case though I would rather give my money to publishers then a game store that's...well a bit pants.

Re: Eclipse Phase Third Printing Update and El Destino Verde!
Although I might add to this that although online I consider drivethrurpg to be my friendly local gaming store. They are friendly, their customer service is exemplary and their prices for POD are very reasonable. I honestly think they're the future of gaming - along with how Posthuman Studios work their open gaming licence. Although, there is a lot to be said for many flgs, especially ones that are inviting and bring groups together with regular gaming nights.

Our hardcover titles will not be made available as POD titles via DriveThruRPG, currently. There is enough demand for Eclipse Phase that we can do conventional print runs and fulfill orders through distribution. Since you are in the UK, I highly suggest you order our stuff from Leisure Games in London.

I find Leisure Games to be one of the best places to get games from the US, despite not being the cheapest after P&P. However, I think I'll wait until the 3rd Printing is available through them before I spend £33 on a book that's about to replaced by a new printing very shortly. I will have to wait I imagine until they have sold out of the Catalyst version first though, which is fine as I've got the pdf. Hopefully though I would be able to get the book before September, only because it's birthday time, otherwise there's no great rush. Out of interest are you saying that people who use Drivethrurpg for POD do so only because they can't sell enough books in conventional print runs? That would set the White Wolf forums on fire! But congratulations on being able to having such a great amount of support for a wonderful product line.

I believe the problem is not about the books selling well but about the books selling fast. A conventional print run is expensive so that's a lot of cash being immobilized (and not available for, say, printing new books). Taking into account the cost of the warehouse space and POD starts to look like an attractive option, especially for back issue items. My 2 (euro)cents.

Re: Eclipse Phase Third Printing Update and El Destino Verde!
ahh I see Part of my interest in print on demand, especially through drivethrurpg, is that they've got a UK printers so apart from the obvious cost reduction of getting things shipped from my own country there's the added bonus that you don't have to wait until the books have been shipped to UK stores and then order from them. As an avid forum reader it irritating (although no one's fault obviously) when all my US friends are reading their hard back copies before me.

I am pretty sure that there is no chance that Leisure Games still has the first/second printings, as we have been sold out of the second printing for months. I'm sure they'd be able to answer that for you with a quick phone call or email.

Many people who don't have a good perspective on business and businesses and the difference between businesses get set on fire very easily or wish to set things on fire with little provocation. ;-) White Wolf has a backlog of over 1,000 titles. They are in a great position to sell things via POD, because they have far too many titles to reasonably keep in print, and the long tail of selling 5* copies of 1,000 unique titles per month is good, stable money. (* I just made this number up. I'm sure they'll sell that many of each title per month, certainly on average.) Posthuman is not in that position. We have a half-dozen titles, all of which are currently in print, all of which are actively selling, and seeing bumps in sales when we release a new title. Also, we wouldn't be able to POD the same quality of books that we currently do; the type of paper we print on isn't available, POD printers don't typically do bookmarks like we do, etc. White Wolf and Posthuman Studios are two very businesses. A right decision for them may not be the correct decision for us, and vice-versa. (And trust me, this is fresh on my mind -- I had great conversations with several White Wolf people at Gen Con about this very subject, and others. :-) )

Oh I do know that they're too very different businesses and I apologise if it was implied that I was comparing the two. My bases for my opinion, which I was the first to admit was based on speculation, is that Large companies with many titles are going POD as are very small indie companies too - such as Athereal Forge (if I've got the name right) which will soon be printing POD their game Ninja Burger. I'll email Leisure Games today as I'd like to know when they're getting the third printing in, but from their website it seems to still be in stock, and has catalyst games in the title. However, I am more than aware that sometimes RPG online shops take some time to update their sites, especially if they have a shop floor to run too where they sell stock. http://www.leisuregames.com/cgi-bin/sh000002.pl?REFPAGE=http%3a%2f%2fwww...

And you see, that is exactly what I was saying: you can compare apples and oranges (if you can't compare apples and oranges, I am surprised you can read Eclipse Phase ;) ) just like you can compare Posthuman Studios to White Wolf.
