I agree that the guns as presented in the book are pretty generic however I think that since that's what they are they would probably be the "torrented" versions. Also what could be possible although it opens another can of worms would be to create company weapon "templates" for example: this company's smartgun system is linked into it's shock safety so you can hack an override and zap the user with his own gun. That other company specializes in inner ship and habitat close quarter combat so all they systems come standard with a vibro bayonette.

Something like... "Direct Action, though generally associated with security and mercenary work, also maintains a healthy armory division. The majority of the hardware produced by the DA Armory goes to their security and mercenary groups, however a small number of arms are regularly supplied for sale under the DA Custom brand, in areas where Direct Action does not anticipate extensive opportunities for growth. The corporate culture of Direct Action emphasizes unbridled firepower over subtlety or finesse. Increase damage in Direct Action Custom firearms by ______. Clip size is reduced by _____, due to the heavier caliber of munitions used. DA Custom typically only produces SMGs, Assault Rifles, and Machine Guns." ?

I was thinking about something arond that lines, yes. That way you could have oodles of "new" gear just by adding a couple of new manufacturers, or even just a new open source seeder...

I think that something around that line has much potential, both for variation and to add more "character" to the gear, but without getting too complicated.

I think a series of ebooks detailing various habitats could do fairly well (but then again, I'm a setting junkie...). I don't think so much detail will sell well as a print product - the detail level of "Sunward" is probably all that can be sold in print and still be profitable - but with PDFs, things might be different, and I'm sure GMs would appreciate that kind of detail

What about small alternative settings/scenarios for non-Firewall characters? This can be done following the reputation circles guidelines: i.e. @-rep (autonomist): a Titanian/anarchist cell and their efforts to destabilize a small corporative habitat in Venus orbit c-rep (civic): a Martian small police dept. and their investigations troubled by Hypercorps meddlings e-rep (ecologists): structure, organization and troubles of a small habitat in Outer fringe preparing for a revolutionary trerraforming project commissioned by a secret Hypercorp/Organization f-rep (media): an Xp team overview and their struggle with bigger networks for news/events (a pandora gate infiltration?) g-rep(Criminal): an Operational base and small adventure ideas for Smugglers r-rep (reclaimers): a suicide mission on Earth and so on...... what is critical, in my humble opinion, is to provide: - a new, interesting and detailed location - new, interesting and detailed NPCs and factions - some detailed, specific and flavoured equipment/tools (branded or design) - at least 1 starting/sample scenario
''Fascism is the enemy, wherever it appears'' - Philip K.Dick " He who would give up a little liberty to gain a little security will lose both and deserve neither." - Benjamin Franklin "Freedoms are not given, they are taken" - P. Kropotkin

I personally like the idea of things you can print out and put in a binder for quick reference. New guns, new morphs, new habitats... And, of course, new exo-planets. I cannot WAIT for Gatecrashers, and just having a quick-ref manual for a group that focuses on exo-planets.

Clear, clean and to the point! Adam Jury, ladies and gentlemen! Something I'd like to read in PDF is a clear chronology of the Fall, the belligerents of the wars that led to it, and a world map of EArth as it is now with highlight of the "historical" key places of the Fall, like where the TITANs were known to be based and geopolitical blocks before they vanished

I second that. Several people with different backgrounds describe what happened. Reminds me of the notorious Year of the Comet book für Shadowrun, which i adore for its fluff.

Adventures, adventures, and adventures. Not all fully fleshed, the campaign mini settings/adventure hooks format of Shadowrun is quite good to. Fully fleshed are good for beginner GM, and to let EP sink in. It's easy to be overwhelmed with the background (including practical or rule thing, like can I do this with Implant, or is this easy to do with Mesh, etc.), official adventures are probably the easiest way to get a feel for things. But, beside being good of course, those should be fully vetted by EP authors for rule and canon adherence. They are kind of a fun EP tutorial, so be sure the freelancer doesn't go wild with it :) As for the not-fleshed one, beside beginner GM and the tutorial thing; most people doesn't need a step by step rundown: what's happening-how-why-when, what's the PC angle, some tips as to dramatic tension and delivery (use this for misdirection, watch this it can be dangerous, try this or that for a cliffhanger or whatever). Maybe, like an adventure by column (2 a page)? Or one a page? Those could be linked to background... like a well fleshed habitat description, or a micro-faction background. As a new EP GM, I would very much like having for the next year say 1 fully fleshed adventure every two months, and one not fleshed every other month. And/or maybe a campaign. Take a year to publish a good small campaign, twelve episodes, one per month. The main goals of all of that is to help people actually playing, GMing Eclipse Phase. A lot of things are mysterious or strange, and people that _read_ EP wants to know more about this or that. That's fine, hell I'm one of them. But EP can be difficult to GM at first, anything to help GMing should have priority for a couple of years at last imho. Beside, adventures aren't graphic heavy. Some schematics here and there, nothing else. It's always nice to have great pics to illustrate something, but I much rather have two adventures for the same price :)

I'd like to see continued releases of pre-made stories, in hack packs even. I'm certainly capable of writing my own stories, given the time, but I appreciate the fact that I can prep for game night in a couple hours if need be.

The Book of Brands - essentially brandnamed weapons, gadgets, gizmos, programs, bodies/morphs and so on. I mean whilst we know that a Skinthetic Sylph is not going to be the same as a Cognite Sylph morph give us an idea of the differences in the bodies between the two brands. Same with weapons, what about legal-programs, or other small programs that people would use in day to day life to aid them. Sure the core book includes things like spoof, sniffer, firewall and other such programs but what about things that aren't necessarily covered by Muses - like sleep programs (useful for those in Synthmorphs that want to dream of electric sheep - or... not dream of electric sheep as the case may be). While that wouldn't make an entire book, the suggestions made by other people about more close in looks at the ideologies and memes circulating the system are also fantastic filler. Just my thoughts anyway.

I would love to see a bunch of random stuff that is usable in stories. The NPC File 1 is invaluable, because the character generation in EP is so involved (lots of points and options). - Solar system & Exoplanet Locations and descriptions. - Gangs - Hypercorps Having writeups on random things which you can throw into your stories and which are not dependent on anything else would be great.

Re: What would you most like to see as pdf-only releases?
Oh, I have all the books. I love this game. My gaming group is hooked after our first session. :) Write more books. The quality is amazing! I'll elaborate on what I think would be great regarding the Solar system and exo-planet locations: - Random hypercorp outpost, with plans, characters, etc. The outpost(s) could be mining, research (standard, secret and forbidden). I'm thinking the kind of "side" missions you get in Mass Effect. Each one has some story, some characters, something interesting to come across. - Exoplanet locations in the similar vein. Random alien ruins that can be dropped on any exoplanet. What do they hide? What do they reveal? What dangers lurk? etc. GMing is pretty demanding, having random stuff you can stick right into your story is gold. I'm also very much for NPC File 2, 3, etc. Those are probably the biggest bang for the buck for me personally right now. I'm a GM who hates generating NPCs. I usually have a simple scale for whatever game I am GMing. Example: 20 skill for weak, 40 for avg, 60 for good and 80 for expert, etc. I never pre-plan NPCs, I make them up on the spot. Stats are really only needed in combat, so I generate minimal combat stats and leave the rest. But with EP, I have to consider morph, implants, traits, etc. Its difficult on a tight time budget. I love just looking it up when I need it. The story is what matters.

Considering how often we see requests for it, how about just maps and descriptions of ships and habitats? The hard, tactical stuff you never see. Take Gatecrashing/Sunward and downshift it to just the tactical view.

Re: What would you most like to see as pdf-only releases?
Travel in the solar system I believe a PDF detailing travel options would solve a lot of headaches for GMs, answer questions for players and generally be a big help and a big seller. - For common routes, it would have porkchop plots (these are charts that allow you to find launch windows dependant on launch dates and available delta v) or a randomized formula for it. It injects a cool yet simple element of realistic detail, and as it is figuring out how long it takes to travel physically is a hassle unless you find your own online sources. - lists of different types of spacecraft, their acceleration, carry capacity and operating costs (in credits and rep), available delta v and delta v cost. - other spacefaring details like onboard activities and hibernation, radiation and micrometeor hazards, etc. - space combat operations. Not crunchy rules, but more some pointers that would answer questions like you want to get into boarding range of a space habitat, what sort of radar could spot you and could stealth materials defeat it, how do you match velocity without your drive torch revealing you, what sort of defensive weapons could take out a space craft at what range?

please don't say Delta V, it reminds me of Transhuman Space's crunch part! That said, it's a good idea to have a travel log of sort, especially for those playing Scums

I assume that was bad and too crunchy? I was honestly just imaging something like the spacecraft has x delta v which then simply lets you read how long it takes to get somewhere on a porkchop plot. I think it would be useful outside of Scum campaigns. If your destination won't let you egocast into a suitable sleeve, you'll have to fly. And lots of players prefer to stick with their morphs for some time, GMs might allow for a bit of leeway to accomodate that and have them fly where they really should be egocasting.

Gear: acquisition, legality and smuggling This PDF would cover, with some general descriptions but mostly examples of how a handful of different locations handle it: - what sort of morphs and gear can be arranged before egocasting in, with legal and illegal options - what sort of gear can be acquired on location, with legal and illegal options - what sort of morphs and gear are legal - for physical arrivals, how is illegal gear handled (what items will just be locked up until you leave and what will get you in real trouble, do illegal morphs get some restraint hardware mounted or are you forced to resleeve) - what can be smuggled in and how, including boarding scanning and how to beat them (physical and hacking), bribes, and backdoor airlock access - punishment guidelines for breaking the laws relating to the above, including how anarchist societies keep psychos armed to the teeth on a leash

Re: What would you most like to see as pdf-only releases?
The elevator pitch I received for Eclipse Phase was "you're a transhuman protecting the remnants of our race against existential threats." I don't know if this would qualify as a PDF-only release or an entire book but I'd like to see something that helps to define what make for good (and horrific!) existential threats within the setting of the game and how to actually USE them in the game system. Off the top of my head, subjects for exploration could include: 1. Traditional WMDs 2. Toxic Memes (accidental or intentional) 3. Post-Singularity Dangers (gray goo, TITAN weirdness, etc.) 4. ETI Infiltration (Exsurgent virus variants, dangerous alien artifacts, etc.) 5. Natural disasters (rogue comets, asteroids or mini blackholes) 6. Self-destructive transhuman behavior (cults, AR/VR addiction, etc.)

Explodes in a mass of fractal branching tentacles and begins disassembling hab. Willpower test to avoid 1d10 SV stress. Roll for initiative. OK, back to writing stuff that will actually be published...

Re: What would you most like to see as pdf-only releases?
I would like to see expanded and clarified material. Taking elements touched on briefly in the main books and even the adventures and fleshing it out more. For example i recall from one of the fluff pieces a line about autonomists living out on the fringes, miles from anyone else, with fleets of robots to mine for materials needed and would love more detail on how that can work. Another example some of the gear presented seems somewhat vague in its effects. Just how versatile is the Shape Adjustment robotic implant, it say it can elongate or flaten without changing mass but how much can it change, how flexible is it, does it let me play T1000 and turn my hands in blades and hooks and such or is there more of a limit. In terms of morphs, how does a masked steel moprhs synthetic mask negate the clanking masses stigma and uncanny valley, does that apply to all morphs with the mask, is there a reason the liquid silver variant cant have the mask [does it not work with shape adjusting or something]. These sort of questions would give the system a more solid feel if they had offical answers

Re: What would you most like to see as pdf-only releases?
Having made one post more ideas naturaly occur imediately. A sample Body Bank / Morph Brokerage would be intersting A description of the facility, along with a list of the morphs in storage there i.e. lot 212445 - slightly used Fury morph, +5 int, Hardened skeleton and medichines implanted. This morph has obviosly been well used, as atested by the series of scars across both forearms and what seem to be kill markers tattoed across the right shoulder. The left thigh has a wonderful and intricate tatoo of a launching space shutle. Also possibly a set of common upgrades to particular morphs, such as the fact that concealed plasma rifles are extremley popular on the liquid silver steel morph [think the TX from terminator 3]

I'm pretty sure it's the shape adjusting that kills it. Warping your body like that would most likely tear up the mask since it's not designed to do all of that.
Kybus Kybus's picture
Re: What would you most like to see as pdf-only releases?
i agree with you there lostproxy, i tend to think of the synthetic mask as being like arnie the terminators skin, possibly not quite living tissue, but bascaly the same idea and i dont think it would handle being twisted much very well, but except for that morph theres nothing to say you cant have both and be fine expanded and clarified details on the gear could include notes about incompatabilities, oversights, complementary tech [like the liquid silver having both skinflex and shape adjusting meaning it already counts as having a version of the sythetic mask and also negating the bad traits] another detail that could be given would be similar tech in books, movies, cartoons or other sources, like im relating back to the terminator franchise here, a line or two saying this is like ...... , you can get a better [and more consistent] idea that way

Re: What would you most like to see as pdf-only releases?
I completely agree. A small pdf of clarifications and minor details that would give a better idea of what works with what would be nice. I mean it's really up to the GM in the end to allow something but even so I would like a bit of extra info on some of the stuff.

All Those Wonderful Toys: Gear catalogs don't appeal to everyone, but it would be nice to have one to toss to the players, like the ravening monsters they are. Some details on brands and such would be just dandy. The High Life: Some info on the drug culture, as well as some specific drugs. I'm particularly interested in the petals, since they're sort of their own animal. Alternately an entire adventure that's actually a petal trip. Adventures: These are always great. I would like a short and simple one as well... something I could have used the other night, when a bunch of friends showed up and instantly decided I would run a game for them. Fiction: Nothing like stories to flesh out the theme. I'm hoping for a fairly banal but nevertheless fascinating story, perhaps in the vein of Down and Out in the Magic Kingdom or other almost-ordinary-people story. Virtual worlds, small companies, 1001(maybe not) small anarchist habitats, and table 17a. Especially table 17a.

I borrowed petals from the feathers in Jeff Noon's [i]Vurt[/i]. Highly recommend that book if you're up for some SF surrealism. I've been wanting to do a full blown scenario with petals for a while, but I'd been holding off until we had a fan base that would be up for something really weird. The first few years at cons, the Shadowrun-style mission narrative needed to prevail, just so people could get their heads around the game (and buy it... cha-ching). Right now I'm working on a scenario where most of the PCs are suryas, so maybe a petal trip is next. Thing with petals: they push the game into territory most gamers aren't comfortable with. That is, they require you to render your character completely helpless & vulnerable for a pay-off that is questionable at best, and they only really work well if the whole group is down for it. (Related problem: up to the point where you start tripping, the effects of petals are very easy to throw off with augs like medichines and toxin filters... so you almost have to get the PCs to submit voluntarily). I think that to use petals well, you either need to have a group that's up for some indie-style, experimental play, or you need to dovetail the purpose of the trip really precisely with mission goals. I'll have to think about it when I finish my current project.

Re: What would you most like to see as pdf-only releases?
I'm having a hard time imagining a scenario in which information was needed from a petal-trip, wherein my group would not respond with something like: Lets take a fork or egonap someone, throw them in a virtuality/simulspace, and subject them to a simulation of the drug. they'd take notes, or play back the important bits through experia. Since the ego can run perfectly simulated on a cyberbrain, and the petal can only contain the information stored with its nanites, it should be imminently do-able in a simulspace. The most viable way I can see something like that working out would be if it requires some sort of real-world interaction. You needed to be under the influence of the petal while doing something in a specific place. Either you need it to catch special social cues (like war-chalking or AR tags or a secret kinesic language only trippers can read), or to see a certain kind of pattern in the feng-shui of some place's furniture, or whatever. Mix that with some psi based pattern recognition abilities, and things could definitly take a turn for the Things Man Was Not Meant To Know(tm). Is there really something mysterious and artificial abou the solar system, or was that just part of the trip? Even in that scenario, I'm relatively certain they'd just bring a canary to the coal mine, so to speak. Load up that same slaved ego and subject it to the trip. sit it in a ghost-rider module, and check in on what it is doing or thinking when exposed to those same inputs. Unless of course there was the Psi angle to things.

Re: What would you most like to see as pdf-only releases?
I wouldn't like to see anything as a pdf-only. I want to see everything in print. Why? Two reasons. 1.) I collect PDFs, but I read them even less than I do the books, which I at least actually open and turn pages of, regardless of whether or not I actually pay attention to what I'm looking at, because if I actually do read it I do better with books than with PDFs; 2.) If I were to try to overcome that, I'd need to have a portable device for the PDF, such as a laptop. While I'd love a laptop I can't afford one.

I agree with a lot of previous comments that talk about adventures and locations (in that order of priority for me). I would also like to see some extra fluff on the Exurgent virus and the ETI. You propose a lot of ideas on how to tailor these setting elements to our own games. But it would be really nice if you published, once in a while, an exploration of one of these ideas. For example, in the section called The ETI Agenda, you have 5 ideas (Security, The aggression filter, Diversity, Enlightenment and War remnants). You could take one of these themes and develop them as a whole chapter. We could learn one of the truths about the exurgent virus, its impact on the virus, life in the solar system and outer systems as well as what Firewall knows about this truth.

Re: What would you most like to see as pdf-only releases?
For those of us who are interested in writing, is there any kind of a 'bible' or at least a 'don't' list that Posthuman has with regard to EP content? Because I'd really, really like to see that. In regard to how people keep coming up with the 'NEEDS MOAR GEAR!' thing, I would only be interested in gear which is NOT a variation on something that exists. I don't need the Colt version, the Smith and Wesson version, the Intel version and the Asus version of roughly the same item plus or minus a single stat point. Instead, what I would suggest is to simply throw a few different middling-sized (not hypercorp, but definitely CORP) corporations out and say 'This corporation produces weaponry tailored specifically to that segment of the firearms-using populace which concerns itself with accuracy, so all of their weapons have X bonus to hit. This other corporation produces weaponry tailored specifically to that segment of the firearms-using populace which only believes bigger holes are more effective, so all of their weapons have Y bonus to damage.' Then you apply that modification to the 'stock' templates which are presented in the book. These 'corporate weapon mod templates' would be balanced either in terms of having some other reduced effect to compensate for the bonus (bigger hole = lesser accuracy, higher accuracy = smaller hole, whatever) or in terms of price (although I really dislike that given the post-scarcity systems of the game...Price should rarely be an object for items as cheap as firearms. Price really should only come into play with really, really expensive items that it's difficult to get as a 'favor', IMNSHO). Legality is also something which has been touched on. We are told that some locales tend to have a heavily armed populace because they believe people should solve their own problems, so no real 'sheriff' exists...But we don't have data on how regulated other environments are, and it really seems as if there should be some regulation. There are, for example, going to be places where you will get in a world of hurt if you suddenly turn up wearing a Reaper. There will be other places where people will just roll their eyes at you for overcompensating. I am also concerned by the idea of having 'faction books'...It seems to me that the factions, in many cases, represent a trend/tendency community. It isn't a regimented army where every individual you meet is 'just so'. There will be people who are 'barely participating' but who identify with the faction's views. There will be people who are 'faction conservative' and toe the party line for that faction very carefully. Then there will be those fringe whackos who make the centrists sigh and deny affiliation with them. For an obvious case in point, take the Mercurials. This is a definite bag of mixed nuts. There will be some who are extremely speciesist-centric. "This habitat is for avian-uplifts only. I don't CARE if you put on a bird morph, you have a monkey brain, and you're going out the airlock." There will be panspeciesists "We uplifted and created sentiences must all strive for our rights together, or we will be rendered extinct separately." There will be those who will seek to accomplish their ends by gentle education, bridge-building and creation of trust...And then there will be the bomb-planting Cephalopod Liberation Front. This sort of spectrum of values and behaviors can be applied to all of the other 'factions'. Yes. Even the Jovians. Some will be militant and hardcore, others will really not care so long as the trains run on time, and still others will be quietly risking their rep by making little, minor gestures towards less conservative views in the hope that over time those small gestures will add up and sway public opinion. Every faction will have its 'center', its 'left wing' and 'right wing', and every wing will have its 'nutbar flake group'. So I am rather averse to the idea of 'faction books'.

For those of us who are interested in writing, is there any kind of a 'bible' or at least a 'don't' list that Posthuman has with regard to EP content?
Not that I'm aware of. The only limitation is some of the images in the original printing of the core book may not be reproduced. There is a style guide, however. I've posted that over on the forums for The Eye. If you'd like to contribute, I recommend putting your work in there, since they already have editors, layout people, an approval process and so on.

In case people are still tallying votes on what we'd like to see, in this order, I'd like to see : 1) Factions : I mean the whole 5k project dedicated to a single faction. The Ultimates. Cognite. Project Ozma. That kind of thing. World of Darkness and Legend of the Five Rings really benefited from the depth of their individual factions. While I wouldn't want to see whole books devoted to the factions, a 5k project would be about perfect. 2) Locations : Again a single location. Extropia, Octavia, Remembrance, that kind of thing. This kind of release is deep enough to make you really dig into a location. 3) Adventures : Always good to have, but please make them accessible to all the players. Ego Hunter is a great idea for an adventure, but since I'm running a game that is ongoing instead of starting a new one, it's not terribly useful to me.

I don't have the inside scoop, but I know PHS has been feeling some fallout from Sandstorm's issues. They are still 'on task', so there's no concern about their disappearing, but it means they have to prioritize. Core books are first priority. They're pushing out the third printing of the main core book, and are wrapping up Panopticon. I know they also have some new missions scheduled for GenCon in the first week of August. I believe I saw four new titles lined up. I should be running at least one of them, so I'll tell you if it was awesome or not when I return (spoiler: it was). But cleaning them up for release may be lower priority than projects like Panopticon and Rimward.

Hi: I would like to read 'vignettes/snapshots' of lifestyles Post Fall. "A day in the life of...(an Extropian, an Egohunter, a Barsoomian, a Jovian... stuff like that)". "Mesh Inserts:" Stuff about how it works, its environment, what are its capabilities, clarifications for us stupid people, etc. "Factions." Galore. "Adventures" specific to the setting - not generic McGuffin Quests or "dungeon crawls, EP-style." Missions which could ONLY happen within the setting. That would be off the top o' my head. Thanks! SF

That sounds like something that would make for a good fan project.

I'm thinking I remember seeing someone working on such a thing, but perhaps my memory is off?

Like Shadowrun's Runners Toolkit? Gosh, that would be like stealing an idea ... from myself. ;-)

Re: What would you most like to see as pdf-only releases?
This would be nice, as I think many of those tables need to be revisited. The Armor table includes a page reference, but most others do not. None of the gear tables include a cost column. This is a hassle that makes quick shopping / resupply events into a major page-hunt. Also I apreciate the elegance of the seeker rules, but the missle sizes are not listed on the tables for their respective launchers and the standard sizes are jacked. I mean, let me quote this here:
Quote:
Standard grenades and minimissiles are the baseline standard for listed effects . . . Minigrenades and micromissiles inflict –1d10 damage (or have another decreased effect as noted). Standard missiles double the listed DV. For weapons with a uniform blast effect or other static blast area, divide the base listed radius in half for minigrenades and micromissiles and double it for standard missiles.
Seriously? Standard sometimes means standard, and other times means extra-big? Couldnt they be Macro or Magnum or Fatty or something? Could the maths be listed out in a simple reference block with formulas rather than in a word-problem? It would also be nice to have AoE listed with the warheads. Same for Spray weapons, I know they are all standardized at 1/2/3 meter spreads, but you have to find that in the description and then refer back to the AoE description, and then to the range tables. It's sort of a lot going on over several different pages of text and tables. I dont mean to turn this into a whine-fest, but yeah. Tables. Would pay to have better.
