Battlesuit armour value
The paragraph on battlesuits says "These suits have an Armor Value of 18/18 (not cumulative with any other armor)". Does this include inherent armour, such as a synths 6/6 armor value? While I'm asking, can synths wear a battlesuit?

Armour stacking with Battlesuit

I think the logic is that anything that can get through the hardened battle armour will trivially penetrate the armour beneath and so it isn't considered as a result.

I see no reason why a humaniform synth shouldn't wear a battlesuit.

or make a custom one for a

or make a custom one for a novacrab, but increase the cost accordingly. Since most things are made by makers and such, getting truely customized items should not be much of an issue.

I disagree, considering Synth can upgrade their body to have 16/16 armor and then apply armor mods to their body, and wear 'skintight' armor to further increase it well past 18/18.

Honestly, I'm rather unsure of whether or not the armor values have been properly tested and balanced with regards to weapon damage. Especially considering how all the default characters have universally less than 20 armor, even though it's trivial to get more than that.

Yes, it is....and a WEE bit costly...their armour is, pretty much,
not mil-spec type armour..they are civilians, after all. On top of
that, though, is the fact that many of the ways to increase your
armour are through implants, not gear...And who do you think is
going to waste money on implants that are likely to be lost *WHEN*
Firewall sends you on a suicide mission to Earth, or you have to
call a nuke down on your own position? Heck, why worry about making
yourself able to survive nasty stuff when you can just redownload
into a new body?

Because that totally makes sense when the armor is called "combat armor" and protects as much as a military exoskeleton.

Well, in any situation where you lose your body you are bound to lose whatever armor you have anyway. And weapons, and carried equipment. Everything not in the head of your backup is likely to be lost.

Re: >>>I think the logic is that

That assumes that you didn't keep some of your equipment in storage. Quite often it's better to have back-up gear rather than to be dramatically over-equipped. I know too many people that think you need 3+ weapons on their characters at all times...

Well, about Battle suits and other exoskeletons.. are they not treated as a kind of vehicles? The way I see it, is that to hurt a person wearing a battle suit, you would first have to destroy the battle suit itself (it comes with Durability and WT), and the 18/18 armor rating counts for the suit itself, not the person wearing it. When it's Durability is gone, the suit is destroyed. Also, it can be crippled by Wounds, just like the character inside. Also, called shots against a battle suit could pass through it's armor rating, and hurt the suits Durability, not the wearer's Durability. Strongly inspired by the excellent film District 9, this is how I would run Exoskeletons in my campaign. :) Eirik

That is how exoskeletons are handled. Do note that when dealing with vehicular combat, the passengers can still be targeted while the vehicle is intact. The GM is expected to handle modifiers to the attack for cover (in this case, you might not get a lot considering that the attacker should have a pretty good idea where you are in the suit), but otherwise you can always target the passenger of a vehicle. So you're both right and wrong. The 18/18 does count for the armor itself, but it also counts for people inside when they are targeted instead (Attacking Vehicle Passengers, page 196). The durability is only valid for the suit. It can be crippled by wounds. Lastly, attacks that target the suit damage the suit, while attacks that target the pilot damage the pilot (again, page 196). Hope that helps.
