Hannu Rajaniemi's The Quantum Thief
Just finished reading Hannu Rajaniemi's "The Quantum Thief". This novel is a goldmine for EP ideas! Evolutionary game theory simspace prisons, the opposite of the transparent society where privacy is supreme, Oortian nanoshamanist culture, copyclade superintelligences, ego pirates, Jupiter brains, mobile Martian cities, memory sharing and hacking, fun abuses of nanotech, oligarchs, posthumans celebrating their roots in nerd culture, and more stylish con-games and thefts than you can shake a qubit at. For example, the Martians have a society where people get to live very nice lives until their Time runs out. Then they "die" and are resleeved (with some reversible psychosurgery) as the Quiet, the servants that do the necessary but boring tasks society requires until they have worked up enough Time to get their next life. Sounds like it could be adopted to an interesting EP habitat, or adopted for timesharing synthmorphs in the outer system.

Indeed. The demise of not one, not two, but three local Borders has added to my to-read list on a geometric scale.
