Hi all people. I knew the game some moths ago, while I was searching for a new futuristic game that would fit my preferences. After reading Richard Morgan´s "Altered Carbon" it attracted my attention for the technologies used, and its potential. Finally, I began to read the core rulebook yesterday. And Sweet mother mercy, this game fucking rocks!. Is the more inspiring and full of potential game I have read in a lot of years. I had problems to sleep because I was thinking in the game. Plots, characters, situations, and I have only overtlooked it, reading here and there.
Now I want to buy some sourcebooks and I would like to ask for some tips. I´m not sure if I will play in the default solar system or a new homebrew system. What sourcebooks and adventures could you recommend me?. I was thinking on:
- Gatecrashing, perhaps it has some good ideas of new worlds and colonization.
- Sunward: The inner system. I could use it even if I finally play in a new system, just changing a few names.
- Some short adventure, like Ego Hunter or Continuity.
- What are hack Packs?, artbooks?
well people, I expect to read this forum, ask more questions and perhaps add some contribution with time.
Cheers!

Re: New to the game, recommended books.
There aren't a lot of books out yet, fortunately.
Main manual is obvious, and I'd pick up Glory + GM's screen if you're doing tabletop. Panopticon is coming out soon, so that's probably on the list too.
The other books depend on location. You already have some ideas, so I'd probably pick one place to start from, and gently slide into the rest as time, money and ideas permit. You have Sunward, Gatecrashing and, eventually, Rimward to choose from. IMO, Gatecrashing is the better of the two out for ideas and writing, but it's also the less required for a basic EP game.
Missions are good, especially for new GMs and characters. Which mission you choose depends a lot on what sort of players you have. Mind the WMD is a nice introduction. Bump in the Night is more role-playing and investigation. Continuity is more paranoia and action. I haven't read Ego Hunter.
Hack packs are for people who want to mess around with the pdf to make something new. If you're just running the game, you don't need them. I haven't seen any specific art books, although they're probably worth checking out if there are. PHS has not skimped on the art. It's really gorgeous.
Welcome aboard! Enjoy your stay :)

Re: New to the game, recommended books.
Definitely get the core book and the GM screen (if you can), and I would gett the different settings books that you plan to play in (ie if you plan to run a hypercorp campaign then you should get Sunward, if you want to run a Gatecrashing campaign, then get Gatecrashers). Either way if you have an eBook reader or tablet, I strongly getting all the PDFs (they are excellently priced and make games as the GM much easier.

Also, this character generator worksheet is basically a requirement:

I use it all the time, even for writing adventures.

Re: New to the game, recommended books.
Due to the CC license that Eclipse Phase is published under, you are legally allowed to download the PDFs of any books for free from where ever you might find them. Although I would very strongly encourage you to later pick them up by buying them, until then you might want to mosey along over to the following links for a preview of sorts, of both Gatecrashing and Sunward. Again, if you like them, buy them :)

Sunward
EDIT: Also, if you intend to GM the game, I strongly encourage that you also get the NPC Files, which happen to be filled with plenty of premade NPCs that are simple to hack away at to get whatever you want from them. I do not have a copy of this computer so I cannot upload it, but it is cheap as all hell on drivethru.

I always like it when someone pimps my work before I get the chance too.
I also always use this sheet for everything.
But if you go over it and get ideas for changes. Head here [url=—
