I am in the middle of reading Eclipse Phase and i am interested enough to start a campaign with my players. The most fascinating about the setting is the sense of mystery but i feel it is all a little hampered by the fact, that a lot of information is known to the players: The existence of Pandora Gates, the existence of Aliens and even possibly rumours about the Exsurgent virus and Prometheans.
What i intend to do is this: Leave the players totally uninformed about the game besides the technical possibilities (resleeving, etc.) and the setting of the game BEFORE the fall. I would start the game at the height of civilisation with a couple of adventures to introduce the players to the general concepts but they would mainly stay on Earth and the Earth/Lunar space.
Then the apocalypse would take place, the PCs would fight for survival and... lose. After a planed total party kill they would wake up a couple of years later in new bodys, after their cortical stacks were rescued by Firewall sentinels. Now the PCs would need to get used to the new situation, learn about the "real" EP setting. In the process they would be contacted by an unknown entity giving them instructions. Over the course of the campaign they would be the first to find out about the Pandora Gates, make contact with the Factors, etc.
The main idea about the campaign would be, that a Promethean evaded it's destruction during the fall by hiding inside some transhuman cortical stacks on Earth, the PCs of course being among the selected. Other Prometheans behind Firewall try to retrieve it step by step, which is the reason for the PCs being rescued from Earth. Now without their knowledge (at least at first) they have to search and rescue all other fragments of the Promethean until they finally merge into this super-intelligent entity.
What do you think? Any ideas, criticism?
I am also very interested in information about pre-Fall society.

Re: Experiencing the Fall: A campaign idea
I've heard this brought up elsewhere, and it sounds like an awesome idea. And since EP's mechanics are so simple, they really don't need to learn the book for anything if you don't want them to.
In regards to setting, I imagine it would be somewhere between Diamond Age and SR4 with bigger governments. Of course, once things started hitting the fan, just look at any documentaries of the effects of war on civilian populations, then shift over to alien invasion movies.

It's your game, but if you are looking for some ideas of the world before the Fall, the following thread attemted to collect "facts" from the books and of course speculation on the world pre-Fall.

Re: Experiencing the Fall: A campaign idea
Actually there is an Actual Play podcast around somewhere, in which the setting and rules of EP were introduced to the players and the audience at the same time, as the events unfolded.
It is both highly entertaining and educative on the game system as it's applied. Especially the stress system that can "kill" a character faster and better than any bullet.
special mention to the scene in Dulles...
