Exoplanets, they're small worlds, after all...
hullo! While watching the first episode of Outcast, a though came to my mind: Can more than one faction have a colony on a given exoplanet? for example, could there be an Autonomist settlement on a planet claimed by, say, the Go-Nin Group? or Fah-jin?

I think it's unlikely unless there are multiple gates on the planet. After all, whomever controls a planet's (usually solitary) gate controls the supply chokepoint for the entire planet, and they decide who and what goes through and who and what comes back. If a colony were established and then the gate changed hands, it's likely that the existing colony would be starved out by the new controllers unless some mutually beneficial deal was struck, and in the case of deals done with Go-Nin and similar evil enterprises, the colony would be so compromised as to be effectively absorbed into the bigger faction's interests.

Sure they could, through a multitude of different causes. Some planets have multiple gates, so two different factions could arrive close enough to each other in time, through separate gates, that who the official claim goes to as accepted by the Titanian org that manages such things (I forget its name) is not clear. Or a PC hypercorp might sell mining rights to a Love/Hate offshoot, retaining official control of the planet. The Titanians might encounter a Europa style planet, and require specialists to come in from one of the free Europan cities. The Go-Nin group might be a bit more wary (Why risk losing wealth when we can just use our own people/indentures/slaves) of doing so, but it is something I could see being a regular occurrence for the less... shady shall we say, organizations.

A colony which is self-sufficient may not be bound to the gate. However, this limits it to only certain organizations - neo-primitivists, autonomists, scum and the like. A corporation isn't likely to appreciate having a colony they can't communicate with or pull resources from.
