Over 1,000 new planetary candidates by Kepler Telescope, small planets more common than thought

http://www.1310news.com/news/world/article/177773--nasa-telescope-sees-t... This is interesting finding, especially as we find more and more planets, including those within HZ. I suspect that within a generation there will be an increased shift and pressure for more life-finding missions by science community. It is also interesting for Eclipse Phase-what would be the state of astronomy in this setting? Perhaps this is such a massive effort to determine that authors would shy away from this issue. Though, having some info on life-bearing planets nearby to Sol System and probes sent to them could be interesting. I do remember a fun entry about solar system called Darktree in GURPS Biotech which was a habitable planet near a brown dwarf located close to Sol System-similiar star system could exist in EP and serve as basis of nearby non-Gate colonization effort.

Bear in mind that detecting these planets and even bouncing signals to them is one thing. Getting to them is completely another. The fastest ships available in EP will take upwards of 11 years just to get to the inner Oort cloud. Getting to the outer cloud takes over a century. Probes can cut that time down, but if we accept EP is set around 2140, we're cutting things pretty close.

Human-made ship ;) IIRC TITAN's sent probes to other solar systems ;) Could be interesting adventure hook-a faction or an organisation manages to get hold of TITAN facility that is abandoned, and discovers it has a quantum link to a automatic probe that is reaching a nearby solar system, will they risk mind transfer to a synth drones created by the probe?
