This is interesting finding, especially as we find more and more planets, including those within HZ.
I suspect that within a generation there will be an increased shift and pressure for more life-finding missions by science community.
It is also interesting for Eclipse Phase-what would be the state of astronomy in this setting? Perhaps this is such a massive effort to determine that authors would shy away from this issue.
Though, having some info on life-bearing planets nearby to Sol System and probes sent to them could be interesting.
I do remember a fun entry about solar system called Darktree in GURPS Biotech which was a habitable planet near a brown dwarf located close to Sol System-similiar star system could exist in EP and serve as basis of nearby non-Gate colonization effort.
