Gatecrashing Preview and PDF Release!
We have another preview for Gatecrashing today -- this one includes the writeup on the exoplanet colony Sky Ark. This colony's focus is on providing a refuge for and repopulating the wildlife on Earth -- and also bringing extinct species back to life. It features a fantastic piece from Tom Gardena of, hell yes, a synthmorph riding a dinosaur. Download the preview here. Even more exciting then the preview, however -- the Gatecrashing PDF is now available for sale on DriveThruRPG, just in time for the holidays! This is a PDF of the full book (clocking in at 200 pages), and like all of our PDFs, it is layered (for easy printing), bookmarked, and hyperlinked. The Gatecrashing Hack Pack is also available, which includes the full PDF, roughly half the art from the book (20 pieces, 150DPI), an Omnigraffle file of the Wormhole Link Map, and a CC BY-SA licensed version of the Lorentzian Wormhole Diagram! Gatecrashing Cover We haven't announced a street release date for Gatecrashing just yet, but we expect to do so soon after the holidays. If it's been awhile since you've caught up with our electronic releases for Eclipse Phase, you can also check out Continuity and Bump in the Night!

Is this meant to be $10? That seems too low. I understood the hardcopy was going to be $45.

The prices are intentional. They may be too low. :)

Re: Gatecrashing Preview and PDF Release!
10 dollars for a pdf supplement is just perfect, and 35-45 dollars for a physical one is also the sweet spot :-)

Giza entry is both fascinating and annoying at the time(by annoying I mean-what the heck is that thing really?)

$10 is right on the money. Digital publishing is at a weird point in it's life. I can't speak for everyone, but if I'm buying a digital book (which has significantly less production costs then a physical shipped book) I don't want to have to pay exactly the same price for a hundred MB of HD space as I do for a glossy, printed full color book shipped to my house. Seems kind of unreasonable if you ask me to have someone pay for what's pretty much free*. However I will flop down $10 - $20 for a RPG supplement delivered digitally to me depending on the size/content of said book. *I say free only because there are no physical production costs for each copy. Once you make (and pay for) the original file, you can copy/paste it as much as you want. With file sizes as small as they are, you can fit a rather large number of individual, unique files on a server for a very small cost. Paying $45 for Gatecrashing as a PDF when a physical book costs the same and has to take into account materials, printing, shipping, and so on it seems wrong to me.

Re: Gatecrashing Preview and PDF Release!
I think $10 / $15 (Hack Pack) is the right price point - I'll buy a pdf and a physical copy, and the authors will get to eat a decent meal. I've spent a fair bit of time making my living via my creative endeavors, and I will certainly support the work I really enjoy when I have the means to do so!

Re: Gatecrashing Preview and PDF Release!
I purchased the book on release day and just finished going through it a few times. I posted a little review plugging the book in the comments section of the blog post about the release. Again, I love you guys. This book was incredible and easily one of the most gripping and immersive books i've read in a while. I can't wait for the next supplement - whatever it may be*. *Unless it's an adventure, i'm not fussed by adventure modules they don't thrill me.

Re: Gatecrashing Preview and PDF Release!
The book is excellent and I enjoyed it throughoutly. I would like to point out what I think could had been done better: -population figures-I realise not all planets require them but places like Portal(Isra), Sky Ark, Krypton, Carnivale could use them. Especially Isra since it seems like a major extrasolar hub. -i think sometimes the authors cover too much scientific descriptions(what is Dyson Sphere, what are Ocean planets and so on)-this could have been shorter since you can find it mostly on the net and is not integral part of EP itself -Most Gamemaster entries are fun, but I wouldn't mind if the overall method followed entries like Krypton, Tanaka where the secrets and background is somewhat revealed in full, rather than Wormwood where we learn only new mysteries. All in all this doesn't change the fact that the book is very enjoyable. I also hope that some of the entries will be revisited-for example an adventure on Portal which additionally flesh out the Isra hub, and some mysteries touched upon in future books. I must also confess that after briefly reading the book I hope that we will see something like X-threats sourcebook, which will detail more of the main threats to transhumanity-Exsurgent creation, TITAN leftovers, xenoartifacts presenting danger, exhumans as well as agency that deals with them like Project Ozma(i think I will start a seperate thread on that).

Re: Gatecrashing Preview and PDF Release!
I'll agree, the book is fantastic. I normally hate reading source books - I just want the information in my head already - and location books are the worst for me. But I found myself regularly slowing down just to enjoy the reading and laughing at the jokes (Giza is fantastic). The book is like 40 pages of world-building then 160 pages of straight adventure hooks and color. Population numbers would have been nice. I would *LOVE* a treatise on the anthropological discoveries so far. That that section was so small made me cry. Otherwise, grade A work (and my hat's off to the artists! Beautiful.)

Re: Gatecrashing Preview and PDF Release!
I have to agree with everyone who likes the $10/$15us price point for PDF releases. I think that is just right for such a richly detailed and graphically complex ebook. I am also willing to pay between $40us and $50us for a hardcover supplement with that much usable information in it (the PDF is for me, the book is for my players). Plus, I can get the dead tree editions as gifts and get the gift-givers interested in the game on Christmas Day... :) The silk bookmark is just icing on the cake.

Re: Gatecrashing Preview and PDF Release!
The book is mindbogglingly good. Just enough balance between mystery and explication, and more to take in than I'd ever thought probable. When I'm finally bored of this pdf, I expect most of the stuff in it will already be happening. I think, after one read through, my favourite entry has to be Olaf, the Dyson sphere. That it's perhaps the least fleshed out of the exoplanet entries specifics-wise doesn't matter - it's so ludicrously huge and profound a discovery that, even being long familiar with the dyson sphere trope, I was just blown away by the awesomely cyclopean implications of the thing. To even begin to imagine what it's all about makes several of my tendrils spasm in cosmic dread. Bravo, sirs.

The non-dot-com Amazons order from other distributors, not from our primary one -- so there is some trickle-down time for them. Patience, please! :)

My LGS is keeping an eye out for it and expects it to hit sometime in the next week. The EP fans there are disappointed at the lack of "All Tommorrow's Parties" style fabbers in the store for instant generation of books and/or Japanese Idoru AI bodies. So, we've got to wait. ^_^ "...they got no Muff-Lette, firemen fucking ate them all. "Fuck that," [Boomzilla] tells them. "Why don't you fax me one from fucking Paris?" My Amercian Amazon order was delayed shipment for about two months, now I am finding out I will have to wait another month and a half. Is there anyone here who has found a different source for this book? I really want it but amazon can't get it... This sucks.

And I just picked up my copy from the postoffice, it seems it has made it safe and sound across the pond to Scotland. As always, fantastic quality, I like the little green Mark ribbon. The paper is nice and thick, about as nice as the Dresden Files stuff. Shame it won't get that much use at the table (The iPad is easier, and harder for my friend who is evil to books to rip in half).
