Being an Async...
Do you have to hide the fact you're an Async in EP? I see a lot of reported uses of Asyncs in gatecrashing, including the guy who didn't know he was one until someone told him. There seem to be cases of places using Asyncs to investigate alien artifacts and conversations between asyncs and other people, but do you have to hide it for fear of persectuion (BURN THE WITCH! Expecially in the junta) or being essentially enslaved by the first megaciorp or group who decides to make you an offer you can't refuse? (Again, likely in the junta.) Or is it largely accepted that some people now have these abilities, and maybe even put them on their resume's and such?

Don't forget that Gatecrashing is written as a Firewall guide, and Firewall is intimately familiar with asyncs. Hypercorps and Ozma are also likely aware, though I imagine that information isn't too freely shared in the former. I think to most of transhumanity asyncs are either a bit of a myth (because, really, if I told you I was psychic, would you believe me without seeing it for yourself?), especially in the Consortium and Junta where that kind of info is suppressed, while those people who do know them are probably openly mistrusting. After all, every async is also infected by the Exsurgent Virus and, at any time, could go TITAN-happy. There's also the fact that the Lost are all asyncs, and we all know how most of them turned out.

Yeah, but some lost turned out to be more or less OK, like the hunter character in the rulebook.

Re: Being an Async...
As above, in my game, once it was determined that the Watts-McLeod strain was not infectious after it alters its host, the Planetary Consortium would direct its media hypercorps to downplay the significance of the Asyncs. The would be treated as urban legends or quacks, like "Big Foot" or "Loch Ness Monster" or "Area 51" or "Uri Gellar" ;) Every so often someone shows up in Mesh media claiming to have "psychic powers" and bend spoons with the "power of their minds" but will be often ridiculed by the official channels. So in short, there would not be witch hunts and Asyncs in my game though people who do know about them like Firewall/Cognite/PsiClone/Mr.Ozma will often hire/kidnap/murder or otherwise keep tabs on Asyncs.

10 years ago there was a terrible virus released which twisted your friends and family until horrible, man-eating monsters, nightmare fuel, that would chase you on their twisted, broken limbs until they caught you and would drive their horrible mandibles into your belly to consume you like a toddler eats a jelly doughnut. How do you think you would feel if, while hanging around the office, one of your mates mentions he also has the terrible, transforming virus, but it's cool, it only lets him move things with his mind.

They're a psychic manhunter with borderline personality disorder and OCD. This is not an individual I would call "well-adjusted".
