a series of questions
a series of unrelated questions brought me back around this wonderful forum. First, involving my favorite faction: the Jovians. I wanted to create a rich high-class Jovian prince dead set on earning his stripes by assassinating a corrupt PC politician. But I discovered a curious problem: the hyperelite background is incompatible with the Jovian faction. One says 'may not pick flat or splicer,' the other says 'must pick flat or splicer.' Does this mean all Jovians are poor or is it an oversight? And which morphs do I need to take second skin for if I take hyperelite and Jovian? My second question is about my second favorite faction: the Solarians. In Sunward the Salamander morph description (pg 163 sunward) says 'they are unable to survive unprotected in the corona... instead they survive in coronal habitats.' But the Salamander has the Coronal Adaption trait/implant thingy listed. And the coronal adaption trait says (pg 164-5 sunward):[this trait] protect[s] the character from the intense temperatures and radiation in the coronal atmosphere... morphs with this adaptation cannot survive outside the coronal environment.' Does this mean Salamanders are stuck in the Ukko and Hooverman habitats and can go nowhere else? (since I doubt they are used in Aten). Then, does the uplift background include neo cetaceans? And is 'solarian' a faction, or is it a subdivision of brinker? (since only ukko and the suryas and salamanders that live in it count as solarian) And, back to the core book (last question!), the drugs and chemicals section in the gear chapter lists prices, but it never says the number of doses per listed price. I've always presumed it was per 10 doses or so, because no one I know would blow 250 bucks on a single 'dose' of hash. But if there's something somewhere or someone somewhere who knows precisely how many doses the prices represent, that would be nice. Oh, and one last thing, since I'm posting already. Four morphs (pleasure pods, worker pods, novacrabs, and reapers) have listed under implants both cyberbrain and puppet sock. The other morphs with the cyberbrain implant don't have puppet sock listed. But on pg 300 of the core, under 'cyberbrain' it says a puppet sock is included in the thing (the cyberbrain). If I'm asking a bunch of stupid questions that are answered elsewhere please tell! And I figure I can't be the only one who noticed the cyberbrain thing, so that might've been fixed already...

Just go with second skin, or pick one background or the other (or both and ask your GM for advice, since he'll like you let you off for free). The character concept is sound, it's not like you're trying to break the system.

I would have to review the book, but remember one major issue is the lack of anywhere to stand. My understanding reading the flavor text is that the salamanders can operate outside, they just can't fly. So if you figure out a ride, or modify the morph, I'd tend to say you're okay (although solar flares and such will still cook you).

A neo-cetacean should properly be an Uplift. Unless Solarian is listed as it's own faction, I would group it into another, most likely Brinker. But factions seem to be based more along political lines, so if you can think of a reason why an autonomist is living next to the Sun, that should work too. Remember, the rules are meant to help you create a story, not to kill character ideas. I can't really answer the other ones (and those I did are, admittedly, just my own interpretations as a GM and aren't necessarily canon).
