Running public games as theater
root@Running public games as theater [hr] I was wondering if anyone would be interested in having a game run here on the forums as a form of theater. I don't know how we would select a gamemaster committee, or select actors, but there are some very interesting adventures floating around on the forums that I would not know how to handle with a home game. It would also be very interesting to see how much we could add to a simple text-based play-by-post game with the talents and resources that find their way to these forums. Do people think this style of storytelling would be interesting enough to be worth the work entailed?

You have my interest. What would differentiate this from a standard Play-by-Post game? Anything at all?

root@Running public games as theater [hr] There would have to be something to distinguish it, or there wouldn't be much of a point. If the acting team was an integrated part of the site, the goal of their presentation would be entirely different from a normal play-by-post game. They are an actor troupe, performing for a public audience, so character development heads in very different directions, and there would be much more effort spent on each post. There could also be visual media added, which would help bring the setting to life for more potential players. At least, it will as long as it isn't my broken-crayon pictures of pixies riding war-raptors. That would probably just be bad.

My instincts suggest that there's potential here, but I'm afraid my inexperience with the forum leads me to be cautious. There's a good idea here, but implementation would be difficult, or so it would seem from my perspective. Still, you've got my interest, at least, and I'd like to hear more of what you think this might be like.

root@Running public games as theater [hr] There are a number of problems that I can see right off, but those are why I chose the word "theater". Anyone with experience with community theater can probably attest to an array of personality and organizational problems, but the lure of Moulin Rouge! in Space crossed with LARP is just too much for me to resist.
