So if I'm reading the pdf right (can't wait till the dead tree... just not a good screen reader:) there actually is NO evidence that the Pandora Gates were created by the TITANs correct? It's an assumption based on their absence and the presence of TITAN artifacts around a few gates (though that could easily be translated as the TITANs efforst to examine and operate them)... but all in all it's not confirmed that these were built by them correct?

"It's made in where???..."
thats the way i read it, but it's implied that they weren't there BEFORE the titans went all hard-takeoff. whether they did it on their own, with knowledge gained from the e.v., or while completely under influence/direction from the e.v. is a mater of complete uncertainty.
there is also the remote posibility (as you suggest) of another player being involved, but theres nothing really supporting it in the backstory. could be an interesting "big reveal" if you chose to play things that way.
I suppose that its also theoretically possible that the promethians did it, booted the titans through them, and then just declined to comment on the topic and never repeated similar feats of technical wizardry. but that doesnt really fit with the tone of the rest of the fluff.

Not only does it not fit, but if the Prometheans were responsible, and some of them now work for firewall, wouldn't we know about it?
i suppose, but the OP was asking for bonzo conspiracy ideas for where else they came from. and since i like to contribute constructively, i'll throw out the idea that the promethians are a fairly secretive and cautious lot. the promethians dont "work for" nor are they "owned by" firewall. if they created some sort of tech, nominally for the benefit of humanity but ultimately poorly understood and barely controlled, they might not want to be too loud about the idea that its their pet project.
on the topic of the promethians, its possible theyre not friendly at all. they could be a long term cultural uplift program left behind by the titans to cultivate another kind of transcendant civilization in the Sol system.
but back to the original idea of alternate creation scenarios for the gates, there could be a second ETI working against the creators of the Exurgant virus. This is sort of the backstory to Greg Bear's "The Forge of God" where the earth is destroyed by one ETI, but the inhabitants are rescued by another who is at war with the first. the gates presence in this instance could also be part of some sort of automated "cultural uplift" system.
I think Bear has been mentioned on these forums before, and might even be on the reading list. if he is, i suspect that may lend some credence to the idea of a second ETI -- but its all blind supposition really.

... lest there is another reason for the Prometheans to not tell us (maybe one of these gates opens into a star and makes for the mother of all flamethrowers... may not want the humans to know that option still exists so better to feign ignorance). Another unpleasant possibility is that the gates were a bribe... the TITANS were wiping the solar system with us and the Prometheans offered them quick space travel if they'd call the fight off.
Of course one of the elements in the game is the fact that the universe is older and has more secrets than transhumanity suspects, and there is evidence of at least 3-4 high tech civilizations out there (minus the Factors and their charges), for all one knows it's a relic of a species no longer in existence.
It seems like that would fit with Factor warnings.
