A while back, somebody mentioned that, in order to keep things interesting, they liked to turn to people uninvolved with their game to see how their enemies should respond to weird situations. I recently ran into just such a place, where I'm not quite sure how my enemies should respond. So, I decided to make a thread for it. Anybody else who wants third party input on their enemies, feel free to post. Okay, so the title isn't directly pertinent to my question at the moment, but it seemed fitting enough.
Gendalian and company, don't continue if you're reading.
[collapse collapsed title=Description here.]So, a mining expedition went to an old, pre-Fall asteroid mining project (216 Kleopatra, incidentally, since it isn't super-far from Mars, is a prime candidate for mining, and most importantly, looks kind of unnatural) and found that the colony had been turned into a TITAN center of operations during the Fall. The place was in pretty horrifying shape, but there were no active threats. The expedition wasn't exactly outfitted to deal with such things, so they sold the rights to it to the Planetary Consortium, who egocasted a few scientists to start surveying the finds while they put together a more suitable physical expedition.
The big find in it was most of the cortical stacks harvested through the main belt during the Fall, loaded into a massive TITAN computer. They were smart enough to not hook the thing up, and the cortical stacks looked like they contained pure gibberish. After days of making no progress like this, they decided to load some of the 'egos' into physically disabled synthmorphs to see what happened. As somebody more genre-savvy would have predicted, all transmissions from the station ceased within hours.
The Consortium's second expedition, which had decent weapons, was almost there by this time, so they were instructed to continue to the asteroid and survey the situation. Upon arriving, they found an antimatter courier docked with it. When they hailed it, the ship's AI basically taunted them and told them to bugger off. Everything at this point pointed to conventional piracy, so an armed team was sent into the asteroid while the other tried to break into the courier. The first armed team encountered a group of transhumans accessing the TITAN computer. When the team engaged them, they were pretty thoroughly trounced, with several members killed and the rest incapacitated.
Shortly before the fight, the second team broke into the courier. There was little information to be found on it, except the cargo hold contained a pre-Fall nuclear weapon. Not armed, but with the potential to be.
So, tl;dr: Armed Consortium team, facing likely superior firepower. The intruders are screwing with a TITAN artifact and have taken out half of their allies. The Consortium team controls the only airlock out of the asteroid and have broken into the intruders' ship only to find a nuke. How should they respond?[/collapse]
