Cognitive democracy
An interesting essay about democracy as problem solving: http://crookedtimber.org/2012/05/23/cognitive-democracy/ They use the word democracy in a somewhat different sense from "everybody vote on it", more like "everybody has the same amount of voice" - which sounds very much like the EP Autonomist Alliance. In fact, this kind of reasoning sounds like just the Autonomist explanation of why they are better than the Consortium (the market part of the argument) and the Jovians (the hierarchy part of the argument). Personally I think they underestimate Hayek's reasoning - he was not thinking that there is no need for information beyond prices, and he would probably have been pretty happy to analyse rep economics. But then again, I'm Extropian. :-)

Re: Cognitive democracy
I see only wee tiny problem with execution of this idea, and that is if I have money/power with understanding of how system works I will not go against my interests to distribute MY power, MY money... And those masses who need 'equal amount of voice' don't have basic platform to do it (errr... the internet and mass use of mobile phones are way to easy to manipulate...), understanding (listen to my boring voice, this is complicated, sooo dull and better left to the chosen few who can understand it...), or will to change it (we have lived in this society for thousands of years and there can not be any different way. It was always like this and it will be always like this). Hmmm, I detect some acrimony in this but it must be my imagination... :D Anywho, although it doesn't look like it I'm too keen for this essay I actually like the idea, I only find it... a tad perplexing for target audience (which should be almost everybody) Sorry if I got 'little' off topic...
So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish.
