Blast from the Past
So my gaming group isn't very knowledgeable in Transhumanism, Technological Singularities or even deep Sci-Fi. They're more modern day & fantasy types, their favorite games are in order, Mage: the Awakening/Ascension, Changeling: the Lost, & Exalted. So I'm trying to think of ways to ease them into the setting without drowning them in H+ concepts & jargon. I had a few ideas for how to take characters from the modern day or near-future (10+ years or so) & having them be reinstated into a post-Fall solar system. Any ideas for how to get fantasy-inclined gamers into Eclipse Phase? 1. Early-Adopters - the characters are a handful of starving college students who volunteered for an early brain-mapping project by their university's psychology dept. Their brainscans become a crucial first step to the current cognitive technologies used in 10AF, eventually their scans are dusted off & booted up. 2. Corpsicles - characters are terminally ill & their final wishes are to have their bodies/brains frozen until such a day where medical technology can cure them of their affliction. Lucky for them, they have a whole new body waiting, but with the state of the world as it is today, they may wish they stayed dead.

Re: Blast from the Past
Gatecrashing? It's planetside, for the most part, meaning you can avoid navigation and space technicalities. Exploring the ruins of a long lost alien race is pretty in line with fantasy RPGs. Any number of utterly bizarre things can happen, such as warring colonists, an alien AI cloning the explorers (and then setting them against each other) to learn about them, TITAN relics, Exurgent zombies, and so on. Very fantasy compatible. All the while you can introduce them to H+ concepts step by step. The only problem I foresee is the predicating of their expectations for the game. Running a stealth Firewall champaign might be difficult if they are used to monsters at every turn and big guns solving most problems.

Actually, Mage can give you a good starting point on how to slowly introduce them into the setting, because it is contemporary (set in the modern day). I would recommend one of these regions of the setting to help start you off.

Bioconservative habitats are oftentimes throwbacks to times long past, having a bizarre mish-mash of new and old technologies. Expect to see new weapons and vehicles, but natural humans and little to no physical modification. Robots will have a part in society, but be largely servile, while uplifts and AGI will be illegal at best, hunted at worst. You can find these habitats in a number of places, but the most prominent group of habitats are the Jovian Republic, situated around Jupiter.
The Lunar-Lagrange Alliance largely consists of people stuck in a nostalgic loop, hoping to return to the Earth they lost. As such, many habitats that declare themselves a part of this faction will have a very retro vibe to them. New technologies will still exist, but people will try to cling to old culture and society. You'll find these habitats situated around the Earth and moon.
Isolate colonies are a wonderful thing for GMs. You can basically craft an isolate colony into whatever your heart desires, without any regard to the effects it will have on outside cultures... because isolate colonies don't interact with any other cultures. As such, you can pretty much design anything... a buddhist temple space station, a tribe of space-faring catgirls, and of course... an isolate hab designed to mimic early 21st century life. Anything is possible.
Moreso than the last example, simulspaces are virtual realities which can be anything you desire. Think Matrix, but beyond that. You could even start your players off in a D&D-esque fantasy world, then end the scenario with them logging off from a simulspace MMO and going onto their daily lives in the modern Eclipse Phase world. Even more interesting, you could actually go the Matrix route, and have your players portray people who are trapped in a simulspace based on the modern day (maybe even with a fantasy bend). Escape is their first mission, after which you can ease them into the setting. Ooh, here's an interesting idea... why not start your players off portraying their characters in one of your fantasy campaigns, only to be logged out of simulspace? Could be fun.
I hope these help.
