For everyone's amusement...
Maybe this is only vaguely related to EP, but it could be someone exploring a particular exoplanet so, yes, technically it could be set in the EP universe... http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d25/tanhauser/targeters.jpg

I don't know much about the setting, but I'm pretty sure that's Boba Fett. Does make me wonder though... maybe I should make an EP demotivator.

I don't think that's boba fett, really. The armor and weapons are different, and no rocketpack on the back. It might motivate people not to use a big neon "Here I am!" sign in the dark.

To be fair, it really depends on what spectrum the alien life forms look on, if at all. For instance, it's completely fine to use laser sights in caves on earth, because most cave creatures are completely blind. Moreover, certain animals cannot see light on certain spectrums, while being able to see on others. Infrared lasers would be perfectly usable when hunting humans, but might inform your target if it is certain breeds of snake, bat or butterfly (which can have infrared receptive vision of some sort). Plus you never know with alien species how they detect. If they have magnetoreceptive senses, it would be equally stupid to go exploring equipped with computers (as they would "see" them very easily). Yet computer technology is likely to be ubiquitous for us when it comes to exoplanet exploration.
